The burglary wasn’t a burglary, the ransom note wasn’t a ransom note, and the $80 million art heist wasn’t an $80 million art heist at all, according to Monterey County Sheriff’s Cmdr. Mike Richards. Though the men who reported being the victims in the Sept. 25, 2009, burglary of their Pebble Beach rental home, A. Benjamin Amadio and Ralph Kennaugh, have not yet been charged with any crimes, they apparently fabricated the art theft that made headlines across the nation.

The men, who also complained of unfair treatment, inaction and discrimination by the sheriff’s office, have been” quiet in recent months.

“We haven’t heard from them directly for some time. I understand now they moved over to Santa Cruz County,” he said. “They were evicted from the Pebble Beach house.”

“In this economic climate, our teachers felt strongly that no one should be laid off, and that preserving programs and services for our students was a top priority,” association co-president Linda Goulet said.

She said “a strong majority” of members supported taking the furlough days to save their colleagues’ jobs. The furlough days will be scheduled on what would have been paid staff-development days, Goulet said.

Isn’t it odd that we cannot pay the teachers but can have $7,000,000 football stadiums and who knows how much $$ school parking lots?

Pacific Grove Man Sends Threats & Powder With Parking Ticket Fee

William Poolman of Pacific Grove has been charged with one felony count of mailing a false weapon of mass destruction causing fear. He is scheduled to appear in court Friday.

The Department of State Parks and Recreation cited Poolman in February for failing to pay for parking at Carpinteria State Park.

Poolman unsuccessfully appealed the citation. He sent his payment to a parking citation collection agency in Orange County and included a gram of a white substance that turned out not to be hazardous.

Authorities say he also wrote threatening messages in the letter.

P.G.’s annual Feast of Lanterns replicates Chinese squid-boat lights and adopts a generic Asian theme, but doesn’t acknowledge the Point Alones village – an omission that was the focus of a recent Stanford dissertation.

Low-Sabado takes particular offense to the event’s annual play about a fictional Chinese princess, in which the audience boos the mandarin. (This year’s celebration will be scaled back; organizers cite budgetary reasons.)

Farmers Market Move In Hands Of City Council

We may see who’s is most influenced by business owners – will they make the market move to Central ave or the parking lot by Fandango?

The board of Everyone’s Harvest voted Sunday to move the Pacific Grove market off Lighthouse Avenue if the Pacific Grove City Council requests it.

Everyone’s Harvest executive director Iris Peppard said the board agreed to either keep the market at its current location on Lighthouse or move it to Central and Grand avenues near the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History, Public Library and Chamber of Commerce office.
