Cops Join Forces In Lawless P.G.

God Motors

Wow, bringing in police from everywhere in a show of power. What better reason to stay away from town and shop in Sand City!

A coalition of officers from Salinas, Seaside and Marina issued nearly 20 traffic citations and warnings on Wednesday in Pacific Grove as part of a joint motorist safety operation, according to a release from the Pacific Grove Police Department.

The majority of the tickets issued as part of the four-hour Monterey Regional Strategic Traffic Operations Prevention Program were for distracted driving/cell phone and seatbelt violations. Six motorcycle officers conducted the operation.

Has Cedar Street Times Defaulted On It’s Takeover Of The Bulletin?

The Times is a free weekly paper that looks more like a community bulletin board with articles on art shows, editorial content written by businesses that place ads in the paper and very little news. It does soak up grease from fried foods very well though.

In a lawsuit filed Tuesday, former Pacific Grove Hometown Bulletin owner Xavier Maruyama alleges that Cedar Street Times owner Marge Ann Jameson has failed to make monthly payments after agreeing to buy the Bulletin in August 2012 for $40,000.

In a contract Jameson signed last year, she agreed to pay monthly installments of $3,406.00 plus interest of 0.33 percent per month for purchase of the newspaper, according to court documents. But Maruyama, who with his wife, Edie McDonald, sold the Bulletin to Jameson, said Jameson has only made one payment.

Deer Are Losing Their Hair

Baldness cures always seemed like a viable business in P.G.

Deer Baldness

Since 2009, researchers have collected hair and blood samples from more than 600 deer and elk with symptoms ranging from a scruffy-looking coat to almost complete baldness, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Monday.

So far, the hair loss has been linked to an invasive species of biting lice that normally feeds on fallow deer native to Europe and Asia. The deer respond by biting and scratching, which researchers believe could be leading to the hair loss, Greg Gerstenberg, a senior wildlife biologist with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, told the Chronicle.

Pacific Grove, The Mobile App In The News

Coast Weakly woke up about the clunky Pacific Grove App. Most of the flaws featured at it’s launch are being ironed out, but still pretty schlocky.

PG App Error Sorry

Officials say it’s the first city-sponsored app in Monterey County, with features like a Shop & Dine section with contact info and map directions, current weather conditions and the ability to contact city officials with a touch of the screen. Users can report issues like graffiti and defunct traffic lights, with the option to include pics, audio and video as evidence.

The P.G. app, which costs the city $300 per month, was developed by MyCommunityMobile. The company has developed similar apps for the cities of Viejo, Mendota, Needles and others.

Monterey Herald Cuts More Jobs, Selling Assets

Too bad it’s been left to disintegrate into this. Wonder if they could have used the hardware and location to support other print jobs.

A month of Hear-Old home delivery costs more than a DSL Internet line. If you need paper to soak up grease there is always the the Cedar Street Times.

Herald Hear-old

The Monterey County Herald announced Thursday it plans to sell its building at 8 Upper Ragsdale Drive in Monterey and move print operations to a Bay Area commercial printer.

“There is an industry-wide effort to relocate newspaper operations into facilities that better suit our needs, and this is part of our ongoing digital strategy,” said Herald Publisher Gary Omernick. “In 1988, The Herald moved operations from downtown Monterey to Ryan Ranch in Monterey. Our industry has changed since then and now we find ourselves in an oversized facility.”

Not To Be Out Done By The Crime Statistics, Now There Is Staggering Pollution To Deter Visitors

What “Staggering Pollution” may look like:
Fishermans Wharf

Staggering pollution from what, chowder samples and KarmelKorn? Staggering is mentioned twice in the KION article, but I have not heard any other reports of pollution on the levels of Deepwater Horizon.

One group is concerned about the whales’ safety due to the staggering pollution along the coast. Today Marine Life Studies’, Take the Streets group got out on fisherman’s wharf to clean up trash to prevent it from going into the water. However, the businesses on Fisherman’s Wharf are worried about the pollution for a different reason.

Stupid Logic – Liberry Manager Position Tough To Fill, So . . .

Let’s rename the job “Liberry DIRECTOR” and offer more money(that we don’t have enough of) and ask them to fix the computers too. Maybe then the city can attract some young come-here to take the job and commute from Salinas. Then the newcomer will become depressed and leave, likened to the OG PG Cops.

I’d try renaming the job “Senior Liberrian” and offer more $$ to an existing employee.
I feel that to be a Director one would have more than a single dead-tree lending branch to direct, not fix the computers while your at it.

Library Book Drop

In the past six months, the city has twice tried to recruit applicants for the permanent position of a library manager at the annual pay range of $66,564 to $80,904. Those efforts haven’t turned up many qualified applicants.

That prompted leaders of three groups — the Library Advisory Board, Foundation for the Pacific Grove Library and the Friends of the Pacific Grove Library — to ask the City Council this week to put some more polish on the job title and salary.

In a letter to the council, the groups said people who run public libraries are generally called library directors, and the 2010 national mean salary for library directors was $100,106.
