New Pet Extreme Store Coming To Country Club Gate

Also planning on occupying the soon to be out of business beauty supply store.

This is shaping up to be an uphill battle – howls are coming from a few that think a full service discount pet store will hurt businesses that have been here forever. In a town where dogs have more rights than the handicapped multiple pet stores can thrive. Of course those stores that have physically been here for a long time but do not resemble their former selves may need to polish up a bit.

I myself usually shop for Pup-r-oni and Science Diet at Pet Smart. Once there I might as well go to the Save Mart that is next door. And stop at OSH or Target. See where I’m going here? My tax revenues might stay in P.G. if I had no reason to go to Sand City in the first place.

Check the store’s site www.petextreme.com, they list prices and post weekly ads. Can’t say that about the local stores that are very unwired.

Nader Agha Caught By Counterfeit Coin Scam

Greedy coin dealer gets soaked. This is the same developer that wants to turn Holmans into a giant hotel. One could ponder the kind of labor he would hire to build it.

Peninsula developer Nader Agha, also a rare-coin dealer and owner of the Coin & Treasure Shoppe on Alvarado Street, last week purchased what he thought were three mint-condition U.S. Morgan Silver Dollar coins for $4,500 from a man who said he’d found them in an abandoned storage locker in Hollister. The silver dollars are generally regarded as one of the most popular precious coins among investors.

Will We See “Water Menus” Next To Wine Lists?

This L.A. transplant couple thinks so.

In a town where there is “water, water everywhere, nor any drop to drink,” Naomi and Raymond Del Toro have opened Fine H20, Luxury by the Liter in Carmel-by-the-Sea. Sporting dozens of the world’s purest drinking waters, the couple has elevated water to the echelon of lifestyle libations.

By mid-May, the couple plans to widen their distribution via their website and is already looking into additional boutique locations. “Carmel was an ideal place to start,” said Raymond. “It is a tourist destination with an international reach, and the people who live here are already committed to a healthy lifestyle based on this beautiful location, an artistic aesthetic and healthy eating.”

And because there are enough gullible people that will shell out $5 for 2 cups of water.

Replace Deb ‘Bankrupt’ Lindsay

To fill Lindsay’s seat, Frutchey suggested the council follow the procedure used to choose Huitt and Cuneo from among 15 candidates who applied: Allow them to make short presentations about their interest and qualifications at the June 2 meeting, and respond to questions posed by the council. The order of presentation would be determined by lot.

The coin toss comes to mind, since the town cannot elect people with any kind of allegiance.

Moammar says there are rooms available, but fails to mention that they come with 7 day minimums or outrageous prices.

Baghdad Moe

There are hotel rooms available on the Peninsula for the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach in June, but not everyone is getting the message, believes Moe Ammar, president of the Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce.

Ammar said he’s hearing people say hotels are booked for the Open.

“It really is the wrong perception,” he said.

Weirdo Arrested For Harassing Calls

Once lived in Pacific Grove and worked in a hotel. Creepy looking, eh? The news seems to be picking up on Pacific Grove nut cases. Could it be the start of election season?

Daniel Christopher Leonard

Monterey police said Daniel Christopher Leonard, 32, was arrested by police April 27 in Olympia, Wash. Police are seeking his return to Monterey County to face charges for stalking, making annoying phone calls and possibly making terrorist threats, said Monterey Deputy Chief Phil Penko.

Police say Leonard used a voice-altering device to mask his identity and a caller ID “spoofing” service to make phone calls that were so traumatizing to some people it caused them to quit their jobs, to stop answering their phone and to fear they would be harmed.

“It was pretty vulgar, threatening and sexual innuendo,” Penko said.

Deborah Lindsay Quits City Council

Sustainability kook, bankrupt, quitter. The new generation of elected officials in P.G. continues to disappoint.

Lindsay, who was elected to the council in November 2008, said she is leaving due to family issues.

She served as the council’s representative to the Transportation Agency for Monterey County, on the Pacific Grove Natural History Museum board, and chaired the city’s Ad Hoc Water Alternative Subcommittee.

Beef At Fish Jail – Reputation At Steak

The Fish Jail is beginning to lose my support with it’s preaching. Besides, where in the Monterey Bay does one find Pink Flamingos?

Recently they unveiled the “Hot Pink Flamingo” exhibit which is all about ways to reduce your carbon footprint. That is exactly when one of its items on display, a life sized replica of a cow stirred up some controversy. The display aims to teach how methane gas released from cows could be captured to generate electricity, but some dairy farmers were not a fan of the display.
