Lovers Point Pool Reopening By Summer?

Lovers Point Pool And Slats
Now:
Kiddie Pool

The first pool just above the beach at Lovers Point was a saltwater plunge built in 1938. The current one, which was closed last summer because of a host of maintenance issues, was built in 1972. For years, the city held swim lessons and recreational swimming programs at the pool.

The city didn’t have the money to pay for pool repairs, so the community fundraising drive was organized. The goal was $250,000 — an amount that would probably provide an operating-fund endowment and swim-lesson scholarships.

A city busy spending money on image consultants and unnecessary street remodels leaves little for project the residents can enjoy.

Forest Avenue 76 Station Customers’ Credit Card Information Hacked

Again!

On Feb. 21, a person reported to the PGPD the theft and unlawful use of their credit card information.

The investigation led police back to the 76 Station where its management cooperated and all gas pumps were inspected for a skimming device but none found, police said.

The skimmer is a device that is attached to a point of sale machine and collects encoded information from credit or debit cards.

Several versions of skimmers were found affixed to gas pumps at the same location on Dec. 7.

Skimmer devices are now being found INSIDE the pumps, plugged into the card readers. Some stations attach anti-tamper stickers to the door of the pumps – if the seal is broke, don’t stick anything in it..

No Parole For Trail Stabber Jason Blad

Good.

Jason Blad, now 33, pleaded guilty more than a decade ago of attempted murder for the attack, perpetrated by himself and another Marine, Jesse Jay Carson. The two were students at the Defense Language Institute at the time of the attack. Carson was convicted at trial of the same charges. Both were sentenced to life in prison.

The two men stabbed the woman 12 times and slashed her throat twice before leaving her for dead on the trail in November 2000. At the trial in Monterey County Superior Court, the victim told jurors she’d pleaded for her life and tried to get away, but the two pinned her to the ground and began stabbing her on each side.

Tuesday, parole board members met at the California Men’s Colony in San Luis Obispo for Blad’s latest parole hearing, but denied his bid, according to California Department of Corrections spokesman Luis Patino. He will not be eligible for a parole hearing for another three years.

Downtown Struggles While It’s Crossroads Undergo “Beautification”

Pavels, Grove Market, PG Florist all are losing customers and Moe Ammar says “This is the best thing that’s happened since I’ve been here, period!”.

The main intersection of downtown Pacific Grove, Forest and Lighthouse, is blocked because of a safety and beautification project and will be closed until April 8, causing significant business losses for even very popular stores near the intersection as shoppers avoid the area because they’re worried they won’t be able to get through or find a place to park.

Sidewalk Reconstruction Road Closed

My question is how will this bit of concrete mix with the five different sidewalk styles that exist at the intersection?

You have exposed aggregate

There’s a diamond pattern (my personal favorite)

Two Caught Stealing From Church

How low can one go?

A neighbor told police she saw a woman enter the church at 148 8th St. at 3:40 p.m. and walk out with miscellaneous items, police said. The woman got into a car with a man at the wheel, and they drove down Lighthouse Avenue toward Monterey.

The car was stopped by Monterey police near Del Monte and Figueroa avenues, police said. Food taken from the church were found in the car, police said.

Arrested were Jessica Galloway, 22, on suspicion of burglary and David Ballard, 24, charged with violating a restraining order to stay away from Galloway, police said.

No Charges Of Self Stabbing By Seaside Cop

Odd case. Off duty cop who claims “During the course of a year said he might date 30 to 40 women,” calls 911 claiming he was stabbed by unknown assailants.

Spitz said his investigators were unable to develop any solid leads as to the assailant Gill claimed attacked him July 31, 2012, or to establish enough evidence to convince a jury he fabricated the story.

In essence, he said, prosecutors do not know who is telling the truth.

Gill told police a Latino male stabbed him in the chest for unknown reasons when he responded to banging on his back door. Court documents said investigators believe Gill stabbed himself, was stabbed by one of many girlfriends or by one of their angry spouses.

P.G. Man Among Arrested Drug Dealers

Heroin being sold at the transit plaza in Monterey

Known as Operation Tar Block, the investigation began when undercover officers bought drugs from street-level dealers, Dias said. Those purchases, made in Monterey and Seaside, led police to alleged suppliers living in several Peninsula cities, he said.

Cody Esquivel, 27, of Seaside was arrested on suspicion of selling heroin. Timothy Murray, 41, of Marina and Castroville was arrested on gun charges and for allegedly possessing heroin and methamphetamine for sale.

Sepehr Makki, 18, of Pacific Grove and Joseph Sampognaro Jr., 24, of Monterey were arrested on a charge of offering to sell heroin.

Morgan Ferguson, 22, of Carmel was arrested on a charge of possessing heroin for sale, and Mike Sobel, 41, of Seaside was arrested and charged with possessing heroin and methamphetamine for sale.

Some of the arrests were made at the alleged dealers’ residences in Seaside, Monterey, Marina and Castroville, Dias said.
