Marina police received a tip about “concerning online postings” allegedly made by 21-year-old Ryan Keating.

At the Marina home, police said they found 2,500 rounds of ammunition in various calibers; two shotguns, one handgun, and three rifles, all legally purchased.

Investigators also found two “ghost gun” handguns and two “ghost” AR-15 rifles in the process of being manufactured. Numerous firearm parts and a 3D printer suspected of being used to make more firearm parts were also located, police said.

Four legally purchased handguns and 2,000 rounds of ammunition were located at Keating’s Pacific Grove home.

Authorities had released a wanted flyer with his photo and offered a $20,000 reward for information leading to his arrest in connection to a decapitated sea lion found near Monterey.

As of Tuesday night, the man at the center of the case, Jason Bietz, reached out to FOX26 hoping to clear his name and get the truth out.

Bietz says he and his daughter were visiting Point Pinos Beach in Pacific Grove when they noticed a dead sea lion on the sand.

As they looked at the animal, he says a woman approached them and accused them of stabbing and decapitating it.

He says they were simply looking at the animal, but things got heated with the woman, so they left.

Both NOAA and KSBW call out the man in the picture – who was not their man.

A woman walking along Point Pinos Beach in Pacific Grove reported witnessing a man and his daughter mutilating the carcass of a dead seal back in June to KSBW 8.

Several months later, NOAA got involved and announced a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the man wanted for doing this.

The incident occurred at 8:40 p.m. on July 27. NOAA says the sea lion was dead before being decapitated, and its cause of death was not determined.

“We are seeking information on the person who decapitated the animal and any other details surrounding the incident,” said NOAA.

Don’t Rely On MJ Taxes. They Keep Going Down

Taxes on retail pot, but no revenue from homegrown? Do we have revenuer cops and homegrown permits on the horizon?

Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill on Monday to roll back cannabis excise taxes. The bill, AB 564, undoes a hike from this summer when rates jumped from 15% to 19%. Starting October 1, the excise tax will drop back down to 15% and remain there through 2028.

Critics warn that lowering the tax could shrink funding for programs like childcare, education, and community reinvestment.

Andrew Castro, a cannabis consumer, expressed concern, saying, “I’m just kind of a weary, you know, that it’s going to tip over on the other end. In other areas for sure.”

For cannabis shops and growers, the tax cut means survival. Many argue that the state’s high taxes push customers to the illicit market, where products aren’t tested or regulated.

Carmel McLaren Vandal Is From Pacific Grove

Drunk, stupid or envious?

Carmel police arrested Samuel P. Shaffer, 30, of Pacific Grove on Tuesday morning for vandalizing two McLarens.

“Everyone is asking ‘why,’ and I don’t know the reason why this happened, but I can tell you that his contact with the police department has been pretty minimal,”

The McLarens each have a different owner who was in Carmel for Car Week. The vehicles were parked near each other by the Pine Inn.

School Kid On Motorized Scooter Hurt In Crash With Car

No details, but all three 4-way intersections around PG Middle School are 4 way stops. Motorized scooters and bicycles can often be seen riding on sidewalks.

A middle school student in Pacific Grove was injured in a collision with a car while riding a motorized scooter to school on the first day of classes, prompting concerns about traffic safety.

The seventh grader collided with a Mercedes, leaving a dent on the car and a gash on the windshield, according to another witness, Susannah Ashton.

“He was in the fetal position on his left side, and he just kept screaming and saying, it hurt. It hurt, it hurt,” Falknor said.

Ashton also expressed concerns about children riding motorized scooters, saying, “It’s just ridiculous. Kids don’t need to be on what’s essentially a motorcycle without any kind of license or regulation. And we just we need we need protections for the kids for that. But we also need better crosswalks and stop signs.”

Dead Seal Mutilation Reported

Flip flops, hoodie and shorts. Don’t think anyone would be in a tidepool dressed from Mens’ Warehouse. Did Rashelle call the police or just critique the man’s fashion?

Rashelle Diaz said she and a friend were enjoying the beach when they noticed a man and a younger lady bent over, sawing or hacking away at something.

Diaz described the scene, saying, “He was decapitating a seal he had already skinned, and separated the skull from the body.”

Diaz confronted the man, informing him that his actions were illegal.

“90% of the locals in Monterey are aware of that. You cannot go near a seal alive or dead. It’s the law,” she said.

The man claimed he had a permit for marine biology research, but Diaz noted he lacked proper safety equipment and identification.

“This man is in flip-flops, huge hunting filet knife. You know, he’s got a hoodie on, some camo shorts. Not professional looking at all,” Diaz said.
