Agha Declares Holman Building All Used Up, Gets OK From Council

Owner of the dilapidated old red house by the post office once said the same thing. Wish I could drill my own well and not pay Cal Am. What about the sewer system, has that been addressed?

On Wednesday, he described the existing store building as “an old building at the end of its economic life.”

The structure Agha is proposing, they said, would provide 250 to 420 rooms, a restaurant and conference center, a basement parking garage, and a multi-story parking garage in the lot behind the Lighthouse Cinema movie theater on Lighthouse Avenue.

He is proposing to drill a well on the site and install a desalination system to provide water for the hotel and low-cost housing for employees.

Nader Agha Breaks Promise To Give Up

Just when you thought Nader Agha would take his phony antiques, coins and sell the Holman Building he comes back again with another hotel pitch.

Armed with architects’ drawings of concepts for the property, Agha said he has reconsidered his idea of abandoning the project in the face of overwhelming support expressed to him for the project.

In December, Agha listed the 84-year-old, 120,000-square-foot Holman Building and the 1.35-acre lot it sits on, as well as four other lots on Fountain Avenue being used for parking and a building across the street at 549 Lighthouse Ave., on the real estate market.

At the time he said he was fed up with nearly 14 years of delays in his attempt to build a luxury hotel on the site.

Holman’s For Sale – Agha Gives Up On Making It A Hotel

Don’t know if he is telling the truth or not.
Holmans For Sale

Saying he’s fed up with nearly 14 years of delays in his attempt to build a luxury hotel in downtown Pacific Grove, developer Nader Agha has put the landmark Holman Building on the market.

The sale price of $17.95 million includes the 84-year-old, 120,000-square-foot Holman Building and the 1.35-acre lot it sits on, as well as four other lots on Fountain Avenue being used for parking and a building across the street at 549 Lighthouse, Agha said.

Nader blames the changes in city leaders, but other business people have been successful in deals with the city. Old Bathhouse. Lighthouse Cinema. Maybe a big (ugly) hotel is not what we need.

Buyers Beware At Holman Antiques

Holmans Antique Sale

Vinther is suing for $36,000, plus unspecified losses due to his expending “significant time and funds to determine the clock is a reproduction, not a genuine antique,” according to the suit.

Though the clock appeared new, Vinther’s lawsuit claims Agha told him it looked that way because it had been refinished. “Defendant’s clock was not a genuine antique, but was a contemporary reproduction,” according to the suit. “The clock appeared new because it was newly made, and was not an antique.”

Must have been the battery that gave it away..

Gulls and pigeons. Crows. Rats. Raccoons. Scavengers finding a free lunch and using Pacific Grove as a toilet. When will the merchants show that they care about P.G. more than for the money they rake in? If this is how they take care of their trash, how clean do you think the kitchens are? Are the food storage containers covered? Is the floor clean?

Pictures are totally unrehearsed. Examples are exactly as they were found. No laws were broken obtaining the pictures.

Charlie the Holman’s Cat Dies From Cancer

Charlie the cat had developed a huge fan base and was featured in numerous cat publications, including a full-page photo that graced a magazine called Cats & Kittens.

Charlie the cat even had his own bank account, which was spawned after customers at the Holman Building started making contributions for Charlie’s upkeep. Withdrawals from the account involved getting Charlie to “sign” the withdrawal slips with a paw print.

And though he was a glamor puss, Charlie still had a bit of the tom in him, serving as the ferocious watchcat against the dogs who might wander into his turf.

Susan Goldbeck Pushes For Holman’s Hotel

Susan Goldbeck writes in the Hear-Old:

In the long term, the key to this new direction for our town is the building of a Victorian hotel on the site of the old El Carmelo Hotel, where the Holman Building now sits. This venue, which has always been a focal point of our community, would include meeting rooms, retail stores and parking. It would attract small meetings of business people from the San Francisco Bay Area and San Joaquin Valley, where 80 percent of our visitors come from.

There’s a reason the El Carmlelo Hotel is no longer – it was a major flop. Got disassembled and moved to Pebble Beach.

The model of Nader Agha’s 600 room hotel looks hideous, IMHO. And we don’t really look forward to fighting hundreds of rental cars clogging 68 or Lighthouse. Earthquakes and 9/11 should have taught you that banking on tourism is not something to always count on.

Not to mention 600 more shower heads gushing our limited water and 600 more toilets flushing into our famous sewers.
