Moore, who operated Kalisa’s in a historic building that John Steinbeck made famous as the bordello where Mack and the boys drank in “Cannery Row,” died Wednesday afternoon at Stanford Hospital, said Michael Hemp, president of the Cannery Row Foundation.

Kalisa, thanks for making my world an amazing place. Hi Riga, luv ya!
The new plan includes 14 luxury apartments, combined with 6,000 sq. ft. of retail space. But it could be a bold business endeavor considering the signs nearby. Closed windows on boarded up buildings and other properties still for lease.
At least when built, this building full of empty storefronts and ‘For Rent’ signs will be shiny and new.
Longtime anchor at the end of Lighthouse Ave has been empty over a year and finally changes. Changes from interesting 50s – 60s metal siding to piles of rubble. Interesting that it looks to be several buildings that were wrapped in siding to appear as one. Used to be my favorite store for window & screen repairs.
Over a year ago, empty.

Demolition part one.

Demolition part two.

Demolition done.

Teardown reveals old advertising on wall.

Happy Easter. It’s the menu from a chain restaurant of 35 years ago. Who knows the location? Or the other locations?
I never knew I had this document of cheap eats from the groovy 70s. I did work there, was not a good experience, hours were low and paychecks would bounce too often.

Location was 162 Fountain Ave.
“Bread Milk Ice Cream”
Looks a lot like the current Bottles N’ Bins at 898 Lighthouse Ave. I can’t make out the address in the photo but the phone number confirms it. The old FRontier 5-5488 (got to love the simple times of the 60s) is the number for Bottles N’ Bins Liquors.
Starting bid – $14.99 ow!
