William Gavin, the attorney for dog owner Donna Bazan and her father, Donald Armstrong — whom a jury found negligent because he didn’t do enough to stop the attack — filed a motion for a new trial and contends part of the jury’s award was unconstitutional.

“He asked Judge [Lydia] Villarreal to throw out parts of the jury verdict,” Ken Gorman, Ospina’s attorney, told The Pine Cone. “Specifically, the punitive damage award against Armstrong and the $7,500 for [Ospina’s] future pain and suffering.” In the motion, Gavin claims there was insufficient evidence to warrant punitive damages.

First time they said safety, robberies and mountain lions will be deterred by them. Now we hear they are for protection against terrorists. What’s really going on in that seemingly innocent fish & weather office?

New Pet Extreme Store Coming To Country Club Gate

Also planning on occupying the soon to be out of business beauty supply store.

This is shaping up to be an uphill battle – howls are coming from a few that think a full service discount pet store will hurt businesses that have been here forever. In a town where dogs have more rights than the handicapped multiple pet stores can thrive. Of course those stores that have physically been here for a long time but do not resemble their former selves may need to polish up a bit.

I myself usually shop for Pup-r-oni and Science Diet at Pet Smart. Once there I might as well go to the Save Mart that is next door. And stop at OSH or Target. See where I’m going here? My tax revenues might stay in P.G. if I had no reason to go to Sand City in the first place.

Peninsula developer Nader Agha, also a rare-coin dealer and owner of the Coin & Treasure Shoppe on Alvarado Street, last week purchased what he thought were three mint-condition U.S. Morgan Silver Dollar coins for $4,500 from a man who said he’d found them in an abandoned storage locker in Hollister. The silver dollars are generally regarded as one of the most popular precious coins among investors.

To fill Lindsay’s seat, Frutchey suggested the council follow the procedure used to choose Huitt and Cuneo from among 15 candidates who applied: Allow them to make short presentations about their interest and qualifications at the June 2 meeting, and respond to questions posed by the council. The order of presentation would be determined by lot.

The coin toss comes to mind, since the town cannot elect people with any kind of allegiance.

There are hotel rooms available on the Peninsula for the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach in June, but not everyone is getting the message, believes Moe Ammar, president of the Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce.

Ammar said he’s hearing people say hotels are booked for the Open.

“It really is the wrong perception,” he said.

Once lived in Pacific Grove and worked in a hotel. Creepy looking, eh? The news seems to be picking up on Pacific Grove nut cases. Could it be the start of election season?

Monterey police said Daniel Christopher Leonard, 32, was arrested by police April 27 in Olympia, Wash. Police are seeking his return to Monterey County to face charges for stalking, making annoying phone calls and possibly making terrorist threats, said Monterey Deputy Chief Phil Penko.

Police say Leonard used a voice-altering device to mask his identity and a caller ID “spoofing” service to make phone calls that were so traumatizing to some people it caused them to quit their jobs, to stop answering their phone and to fear they would be harmed.

“It was pretty vulgar, threatening and sexual innuendo,” Penko said.
