Pollacci To Stand Trial For Rape

Tom Pollacci

After hours sitting in front of a judge Friday, Tom Pollacci of Pebble Beach will stand trial on charges of rape.

His family owns Ron’s Liquor store on Lighthouse Ave. in Pacific Grove. Pollacci is accused of raping an unconscious woman back in April of 2008.

Pollacci could face a maximum sentence of eight years in prison.

He’ll be back in court at the end of this month. Pollacci is out on bail.

From the Hear-Old:

McGuirk testified she (Jane Doe #5) told him that one morning as she was getting ready for high school, there was a knock on her door. She answered and found Pollacci and another man, who threw her over his shoulders in her bathrobe and forced her into Pollacci’s car.

They drove her to the river in mid-Carmel Valley. The other man, whom she did not know, held her down while Pollacci raped her, she said.
. .

Another woman said Pollacci, a friend of her ex-husband, raped her in her home during an unannounced visit more than 20 years ago. Another said he tried to rape her in the parking lot of the Highlands Inn after a luncheon date in 1992. That woman did report her assault to police, and Pollacci pleaded guilty to sexual battery.

A Pacific Grove man accused of raping a woman in his father’s liquor store remained jailed Monday after a judge increased his bail for violating the terms of his release.

Judge Russell Scott elevated Thomas Pollacci’s bail from $300,000 to $400,000 after the GPS company hired by his defense lawyer to monitor him reported that Pollacci lingered 29 minutes too long in his church parking lot after Mass early Friday.

Prosecutor Cristina Johnson reported the violation to Scott and defense attorney Andy Liu before noon Friday. Scott ordered Pollacci to appear that afternoon and, despite protests that he had left the church on time, remanded him into custody in the courtroom pending a hearing Monday.

He’s back out on a larger bail amount and now free to prowl.

More Evidence Revealed In Pollacci Rape Cast

Was the victim bleeding in the store’s office? Who puts a bed in an office? Now an employee of Ron’s Liquor is making damaging statements.

Police investigating the alleged rape of a woman at Ron’s Liquors in Pacific Grove found evidence of blood at the base of stairs leading to what the victim described as a “bachelor pad” above the store.

A liquor store employee told detectives he saw his boss, suspect Tom Pollacci, scrubbing the same area of the floor the morning after the alleged assault, according to court documents.

The worker said he peeked through the crack and saw Pollacci scrubbing the floor beneath the stairs. He said he heard his boss going up and down the stairs and said Pollacci told him not to talk to anybody about what he was doing.

Deputy district attorney Cristina Johnson had asked the judge to up the bail to $1 million, citing public safety issues.

Since Pollacci’s arrest in early March hit the media, Johnson said, she had heard from new victims every day. “I received reports from eight different agencies, and calls from women who had been victims themselves or pointed to other women who had been victims,” she said.

Scott agreed but imposed several conditions of bail on Pollacci. He must remain at home, and may be subject to electronic monitoring, though he’ll be allowed to leave the Pebble Beach house of his parents to meet with his lawyers.

This grown man lives with his parents? OK, couple this with the other statement by his own defense team:

Pollacci was accompanied to his arraignment Tuesday by defense investigator Richard Lee, who wrote a presentence report in the 1993 case describing Pollacci as a spoiled, self-centered man who was guilty of being presumptuous and using poor judgment, but who did not realize he was having sex without consent. According to the report, Pollacci told Lee that he had come to realize through therapy that he never learned any “boundaries” in his life.

It all seems so clear now. If a minor commits a crime or causes damage, the parent of the child is held liable. This sex offender has not grown up. The boycott group is right, go ahead put some more blame on the Pollacci family, they might just deserve it. Shop for whisky, cigars & porn anywhere but their stores.

The Herald’s depiction of Pollacci is more of a crime than anything else, because it creates hype and scares people who may not know him.

I knew him, wish I didn’t.

Let not the sins of the son reflect on the goodness of the family.

I have lived in Pacific Grove all my life. I have gone to school with the Pollacci family and attended social events with them. They are a fine, upstanding family.

A fine upstanding family that employed a registered sex offender. Oxymoron.

Farmers Market Is Ruining Downtown, So Say The Store Owners

Normally very vocal and visible, Ron’s Liquor owner David Pollacci, a chairman on the Pacific Grove Chamber Of Commerce is oddly silent in this round of Farmers Market debates.

Known as America’s Last Hometown, Pacific Grove was one of the only towns on the Central Coast without a farmers market until nine months ago. It took the city a lengthy year and a half to open the market because of upset business owners wanting the city to consider another location and some didn’t want the market at all in fear that it would drive customers away. Some local businesses are closing their doors for good saying that the 55 days a year that the street is closed is causing them to lose a significant amount of business and they can no longer afford to keep their doors open.

Let’s all feel sorry..

“He says, quite frankly, that he was ‘spoiled’ and has long conducted himself as able to do pretty much whatever he pleases.”

Pollacci’s Prior Convictions

Sexual battery. Sees judge today.

Tom Pollacci

The affidavits list Pollacci’s prior convictions, which include battery in 1985, loitering on private property in 1990 and the two counts of sexual battery in 1993.

That case involved alleged separate rapes of two women, one of whom said she was possibly drugged and awoke to find Pollacci assaulting her.

The woman said Pollacci had brought her home from a first date at Rocky Point Restaurant. She was angry that he’d consumed a considerable amount of alcohol and suggested that he should go home, but he walked her into her apartment.

She told police she got a glass of water and went to her bedroom to change. When she came out she drank some of the water. She awoke the next morning thinking she was having a dream, only to realize it was real.

The second case involved a woman who said Pollacci sexually assaulted her in the parking lot of the Highlands Inn after the two had lunch, also on their first date.

Senator Considering Law That Would Bar Sex Offenders From Seeing Your Personal Information

State Senator Abel Maldonado said he’ll consider proposing a bill that would prevent registered sex offenders from working in liquor stores and other businesses where they can check IDs and have access to customers’ personal information.

“Allowing registered sex offenders to view a person’s driver’s license, thereby allowing them to obtain important contact information like the person’s address, is extremely dangerous,” Maldonado said.

Maldonado made the comments to The Pine Cone after learning that registered sex offender and liquor store worker Thomas Pollacci, 49, was charged with three felony counts of rape stemming from an April 2008 incident. Pollacci’s family owns Ron’s Liquors in Pacific Grove, and he has worked there for years.
