After eight and a half years of investigating, Pacific Grove police have issued an arrest warrant for a Soledad man for the murder of Kristopher Olinger, a 17-year-old who was stabbed and beaten to death along the Recreation Trail in Pacific Grove.
Police said a “hit” in a new palm-print identification database led them to Jacobo Ruelas, 27, who was named as a “key suspect” in the case Friday. After eluding arrest earlier this week, Ruelas is wanted on a $3 million warrant.
Did Something Interesting Happen Here?
Spotted this sign, pimping the town to the trail walkers, surrey drivers and motorists that are not watching the road:

Historic? Did Poncho Villa sleep here? Minds sprung into action and have come up with a few alternates:
Truth in advertising.

The land barons’ sign.

Imported phony charm.

Goes with the ‘charm’.

Tidepool Police Need A Life
Letter from the editor – the Hear-old
Am I the only one getting tired of the incessant whining by the Pacific Grove Tidepool Coalition?
The coalition makes it seem like the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Hopkins Marine Station are self-serving bullies bent on turning the P.G. coastline into a watery desert. In fact, no two institutions have done more to promote the stewardship of our oceans in general and our local intertidal eco-system in particular.
If the coalition needs a tide pool project, perhaps it should look into the effects of the fertilizer and herbicide runoff from the P.G. golf course after each rain.
Nope, I am also tired of it. I imagine the tidepool nazis want to fence off the shoreline and not let anyone in from the land or sea. Soon the beaches will be littered with flotsam, stinky and unused.
DirectTV Techs: Policy Makes Lying Part Of Job
Feel the Joy
ORLANDO, Fla. — Nearly 40 DirectTV installers were fired this week after giving on-camera interviews to Local 6 News about a company policy they say forced them to lie to Florida customers.
“Tell the customer whatever you have to tell them,” technician Frank Martinez said. “Tell them if these phone lines are not connected, the receiver will blow up.”
“You’ve been told to tell them that?” Alvarez asked.
“We’ve been told to say that,” Martinez said. “(And say) whatever it takes to get that phone line in the receiver.”
The report uncovered that the apparent lie could cost customers big money.
The fee to have a phone line installed could be as high at $52 per room. A wireless phone jack will cost another $50.
P.G. Woman Arrested In Drug Lab Bust
Miles Clifford Farmer, 32, of Prunedale and Amanda Miyo Farmer, 29, of Pacific Grove were sitting in two cars behind the Motel 6 at 100 Reservation Road in Marina around 9 a.m. when officers ran one of the license plates and discovered that Miles Farmer was a parolee-at-large. Lt. Bob Nolan said officers also learned that Farmer had a previous conviction for operating a meth lab.
When the vehicles were searched, officers discovered a black satchel in one containing items that looked like a portable methamphetamine lab.
Caregiver Runs Up Unauthorized Credit Card Charges
Talielia Mekemke Naufahu, 45, of San Mateo was booked in lieu of $30,000 on suspicion of grand theft and theft from elders, police said.
Naufahu was hired as a caregiver for the couple in the past year. Police began investigating Naufahu after a member of the couple’s family found “unusual charges” on some of their credit cards.
Not All Tourists Are In Blissful Love
What started as a weekend getaway at a Pacific Grove bed and breakfast turned bad for a Dublin couple Sunday.
The couple were staying at a bed and breakfast on the 200 block of Ocean View when Darren Errol Lawson, 28 allegedly assaulted his girlfriend about midnight Sunday. Police said Lawson left the room after the first attack and his girlfriend, a 31-year-old also from Dublin, locked the door and tried to call police.
Maybe the scones were stale that day . .
Trespassers Arrested At Lillian King Home
Two Pacific Grove women were arrested Wednesday morning on suspicion of trespassing at a property owned by an aunt of one of the women.
Rindi Rehs, 33, was cited and released, and the owner’s niece, Cynthia Hurley, 47, was also found to be in possession of drugs, police said. Hurley was charged and released on bail.
“Right in the middle of all this wealth and affluence is West Virginia,” Chief Carl Miller said. “We were getting calls.”
Bad analogy, chief.
Marina Men Arrested In Child Porn Case
Marina police arrested two more men this week in connection with pornographic pictures of two Monterey County girls.
On Thursday, police arrested Edwin Nath, 26, and Justin Adams, 19, both of Marina,on suspicion of possessing child pornography and related charges, two days after arresting Michael Gruber, 28, also of Marina, on similar charges.
The three men sexually exploited two 14-year-old girls, said Marina police Lt. Rick Janicki.
Police arrested Gruber on Tuesday on suspicion of molesting a minor, transporting obscene material, having material depicting sexual conduct with a minor, and growing, selling and furnishing marijuana to minors, police said.
Nath and Adams were arrested on suspicion of numerous counts of possessing child pornography and trafficking obscene materials.
Adams also was arrested on suspicion of having unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor.
Good Old Days Aint What They Used To Be
Complaints have flowed in to Ammar’s office from residents who said the ad was tasteless and inappropriate for something promoting what is billed as a family event in, of all places, America’s Last Hometown.
The chamber’s mailer, which was sent to 12,000 Peninsula residents, features an advertisement depicting a couple lying in bed together, and a caption reads, “Ladies, are you feeling shy about taking it off for your husbands? Feel comfortable again about getting naked!”
“There was nothing about it that jumped out at me at first,” said Ammar. “Then the phone calls came in and I read it more closely. You would hope the ads would be more traditional.”
For the record, another ad inside the mailer depicts the backside of a naked woman sitting on a skateboard, with the upper half of her “backside” exposed.

That’s one sad looking fat lady. You don’t see starving orphans in food ads or smelly drunks in beer ads, why do they use a sad fat person in a diet ad?
