Chamber Of Commerce Story 1, Slow News Week

Forgive KSBW for the poor fact checking, there must not be enough gang stories in Salinas to report on.

The building is on Central Avenue well into the P.G. city limits. After reading about how much the restaurant tried to keep it’s current location, the perception is that the property owner is a friend of Moe and nothing could make them consider any other use of the property.

Plus $125,000 of the taxpayer’s money is going toward this turkey.

The Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce is making a move to the China Garden Restaurant on Lighthouse Avenue after 75 years on Central Avenue.

Moe Ammar, of the Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce, said a lot of research went into finding a new home where there was a lot of car and foot traffic.

Last week, the Pacific Grove City Council approved to have a portion of the money from the city’s hotel tax to pay for the tourist information center, which will cost about $125,000.

The chamber will continue to keep some of its administrative offices in its old building.

DirecTV Viewers Could Lose KSBW

No, its not a Comcast NBC buyout threat.

Nbc

KSBW-TV 8 announced Friday that KSBW-TV may no longer be carried on DirecTV satellite systems effective January 1, 2011, if the parties are unable to conclude retransmission consent negotiations currently underway.

Satellite distributors are prohibited by law from carrying broadcasters’ signals without their consent. The removal of KSBW’s signal from the DirecTV system will only result if negotiations between representatives of Hearst Television Inc., KSBW’s parent company, and DirecTV are unsuccessful in reaching a conclusion before December 31, 2010.

Mystery Giver Leaves Money In P.G.

In some cities there are kind people that give out money to the poor or homeless so that they might enjoy a bit of comfort that many take for granted. In P.G. they ask you to buy a $20 plate of noodles or an eight dollar jar of pickles.

Free Money

A total of 11 people have reported receiving cards filled with anywhere from $10 to $50. The cards included a list of suggestions of what to do with the money.

The suggestions include donating the money, spending it as a Pacific Grove restaurant or adding more money and blessing someone else.

Carbon Monoxide Kills Two In Monterey

If you have gas appliances of any kind, a carbon monoxide detector is a must. You can find one at Ace Hardware.

Firefighters were sent to a Monterey home in the 700 block of Lottie Street at 9:17 a.m. Monday on reports of two people who were unresponsive.

When firefighters arrived, they determined that there were high levels of carbon monoxide in the apartment.

The causes of death were determined to be accidental.

Deputies said a wall-mounted gas heater appears to have played a role in their deaths.

P.G. Meets To Put End To Smoking In Public

Lover’s Point in Pacific Grove is where Ryan Roberts goes to catch some downtime and take a deep breath. There’s a smoking ban in place there, so he said he relaxes in his car.

“It’s kind of like discriminating, really, to people that are addicted to smoking and choose not to quit just yet,” Roberts said.

The proposed ban is meant to protect people from second-hand smoke and keep public parks and beaches clear of cigarette butts which contain plastic filters that never breakdown, supporters said.

He relaxes in his car. Do you mean he infects his lungs with carcinogens while simply looking at the clean air?

It’s not just the beaches. Take a walk along Lighthouse from Hazaras smoking rug salesman to Juice N Java’s sidewalk tables down to Pollacci’s liquor store loiterers.

Pebble Beach Art Theft Updates

Checking in on the Pebble Beach Art Theft story. This thing is all over the map it seems. Gay bashing, friend’s fathers who pilot helicopters, what next?

KSBW has the complaint file in a .pdf

Dr. Ralph Kennaugh and Angelo Amadio reported the theft of millions of dollars of artwork on Sept. 25, 2009, saying the missing collection contained works by Jackson Pollock, Van Gogh, Miro and Rembrandt.

No arrests were ever made, none of the missing art turned up, and the Sheriff’s Office subsequently talked about charging the two men with filing a false police report or insurance fraud.

The reported theft drew widespread publicity after Kennaugh and Amadio offered a $1million reward for the return of the artwork. But the Sheriff’s Office, within a few days, was painting a different picture of the case, suggesting that something was not right about the big art heist.

P.G. Cops Arrest Salinas Cop For Child Molesting

Blame the victim. It works for Dave Stamm.

Lance M. Mosher, 44, was arrested Tuesday on two counts of lewd acts with a minor and penetration with a foreign object, police said.

Mosher is accused of committing the acts in 2007, police said.

The complaint stemmed from a prior complaint by an unnamed individual and the acts were committed while Mosher was living in Pacific Grove, authorities said.

Mosher’s attorney, Juliet Peck, said the teen accusing her client of molestation may have a mental illness, which could explain the allegations.

Smart Meter Backlash – For All The Wrong Reasons

You’d think the protests would be about loss of privacy, grossly inaccurate readings or detecting that one has an indoor pot garden (this is an article from Santa Cruz), but no. People are imagining ill effects of the RF energy by them. Is it same people that became ill when moth spraying was scheduled, but didn’t happen?

Joshua Hart said he was protesting PG&E’s smart meters after researching the amount of radiation that comes from the devices.

“It’s significantly higher than cell phones. (In) brief periods of time, you have short spikes of intense electromagnetic radiation,” Hart said. PG&E started installing the smart meters in Santa Cruz County in July.

Marilyn Garret said she has a smart meter at her Aptos home.

“It makes me feel quite ill,” Garret said. “My tremors increase and (I have) very painful headaches.”
