Community Development department oversees planning, building, and housing divisions along with code compliance. Nobody in those divisions are worthy of stepping up while the hiring process is ongoing.

“The city is in need of a community development director on a temporary basis for a limited duration to oversee and manage the community development department,” according to a report to the council by human resources manager Leticia Livian.

On Wednesday, the P.G. City Council OK’d an arrangement that would allow Lew Bauman to temporarily serve as the city’s community development director.

Linda Adamson comes from a much larger district than P.G.’s. Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified has 34 schools and an enrollment of about 24,000. Pacific Grove Unified has two elementary schools, one middle school, one high school, one continuation high school and an adult education school. Its enrollment, as of August, is about 1,800.

Adamson obtained her bachelor’s degree in education from Johannesburg College of Education, in South Africa, and a master’s and doctorate degrees in school administration from California State University Fullerton.

To the outrage expressed by some locals when they learned that 84 housing units could be built at 1352 Lighthouse Ave. — where the landmark NOAA building stands — the Pacific Grove Planning Commission voted 7-0 last Thursday to  recommend that the town’s city council remove the  property from a list of sites where housing could be constructed.

“We certainly believe in low-cost housing,” Hauk said. “We just don’t think it’s a good idea for 1352 Lighthouse Ave.” Hauk is a co-founder of COAST, which stands for Center for Ocean, Arts, Science and Technology. The group insists the NOAA building deserves to be designated as historic and wants to see it repurposed as a science and  environmental center.

the city now suggests that 84 housing units could be built at 1352 Lighthouse Ave, where the former NOAA building stands.

The site is just a short stroll from the tidepools of Point Pinos and Asilomar State Park. The 84 units are among l, 125 units the city believes it is required to designate for development, all to accommodate the state’s mandate to address California’s housing crisis.

The former Pacific Grove resident who said that her sons were subjected to racism at a Pacific Grove elementary school and that school officials didn’t adequately respond to her complaints, held an emotional press conference outside the school late last week.
At a Sept. 21 press conference held by the local NAACP chapter, Valerie Anthony, 45, claimed that her three boys suffered “racial trauma” while they were students at Robert Down Elementary School. ‘They come home, and they want to know what’s a ‘ —-‘ because children on the playground are calling them that at school,” Anthony told a TV news reporter at the press conference in front of the school.

The Kimpton Hotel by IHG Hotels & Resorts will be located at 157 Grand Ave., a property also bordered by Fountain and Central avenues that was most recently home to a Mexican restaurant, a benefit shop and an animal adoption center until they all vacated the property in late 2022. The old building will be demolished to make way for the hotel, which will have four floors.

“With 95,263 square feet spread across four stories, it will offer 102 guest rooms and redefine luxury hospitality in the region.” IHG Hotels & Resorts, otherwise known as InterContinental Hotels Group, also owns the oceanfront Clement Monterey hotel on Cannery Row.

Last week, a Massachusetts prosecutor announced that his office determined that Terry’s killer was her husband, Guy Rockwell Muldavin. In the 1980s, Muldavin hosted a popular three-hour weekly radio show, “Talk to Me,” on KAZU radio in Pacific Grove.

In 1985, a reporter for The Californian newspaper featured Muldavin and his radio show. “During the show, Muldavin draws on his experiences and conversations with
other people to deal with topics such as cuts in Social Security, Alzheimer’s disease and feelings about old people having sex,” the article said.
Muldavin was also the prime suspect in the murder of a previous wife and Stepdaughter in Seattle in the 1960s, according to the Associated Press. Those murders have not been solved, however.

On Aug. 31, Pacific Grove Police officers arrested Jason Alexander Cline, 26, at his Spreckels home on suspicion of annoying and molesting two young girls.

Between Aug. 1, 2022, and May 31 of this year, the complaint says Cline kissed Doe 1 twice, touched her breasts and genitals and put the girl ‘s hands on his genitals, while he’s accused of performing general lewd and lascivious acts on Doe 2, the complaint says.

An online resume indicates that since January Cline has  been employed as a social media manager for the Peninsula Monterey Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
