Parklett Parking

Wait, the taxpayers bear the cost of this? No no no. The businesses that are using what was parking spaces need to pay for it.

The new dining area proposal — which could cost taxpayers $250,000 — would route pedestrians on the extended sidewalk around the dining area and toward the street. That configuration, the subcommittee said, would offer more room for pedestrians, including disabled people.

Whatever the council decides next week, members will likely discuss the demolition of Victorian Corner parklet, which is not compliant with a new state law — Assembly Bill 413 — that went into effect Jan. I. T

Another rule that is needed, the spaces need to be occupied more than 3 hours a day 5 days a week. Pointing at you Spotted Duck. Parklet space sits unused until 5 pm except Monday and Tuesday when it’s empty all day.

Bruce Doneux Appointed To DEI

DEI now has two people to not show up for any meetings. How’s that for “screwed up”?

Peake appointed Bruce Doneux, a 76-year-old massage therapist who’s lived in Pacific Grove for four decades, to the task force, and Kim Bui, the DEI’s current chair.

At a PGUSD board meeting last October, Doneux told trustees that racial bias in Pacific Grove should be addressed by White people “getting together and figuring out why we’re so screwed up,” before he promoted a local group called Whites for Racial Equity,

Big Brother’s Street Cameras Coming to Monterey

Best way to avoid getting on camera is to drive a Tesla or Audi. They seem to be exempt from displaying a front plate.

Monterey PD- announced it is exploring the implementation of an automated license-plate-reading program, referred to as ALPR, that would utilize fixed and mobile cameras. The devices capture images of vehicles and their license plates and can automatically run the numbers through crime databases to see if the owner is wanted. The footage can also help identify suspects based on when and where they were in the city at the time of a crime.

Will The New ATT Golf Changes Ruin The Crosby?

All the media says it will be better than ever. Why? “More prestige and money”. Eagerly awaiting the reports. If it flops they will blame the weather.

Welcome To Bings Pro Am

While some might bemoan the loss of celebrity antics and the off-course activities and parties, Nantz said the changes will help ensure the tournament’s future.

Roundabouts On 68 Are A Great Idea

Right? Roundabouts, Animal Crossings, etc. Build a modern 4 lane highway from Toro Park to highway 1 and be done.

Roundabouts Woody Buzz

But Dwight Stump, who lives in Corral de Tierra, contends the new Highway 68 roundabout project will do little to speed up traffic. Stump called it “a huge waste of taxpayer money” and “a runaway train” that won’t do much to improve commute times.

“The roundabouts are going to decrease afternoon commutes by about five minutes,” Stump told The Pine Cone. “They’re taking a 36-minute commute and decreasing it to 31 minutes, and just for two hours a day.”

Project Homekey Defaults On Government Loans

Remember when Homekey tried to seize the Monarch Resort? Glad P.G. never got mixed up with that.

So the state gives money to developers to convert motels to housing. The housing is built for the ‘homeless’. If the homeless cannot afford California’s high rents, who pays the rent? Then where do all the newly arrived ‘homeless’ people go since they heard there are free homes in California?

The state attorney general Monday took legal action against Southern California developer Shangri-La Industries for alleged violations related to seven homeless housing projects in the state — including four in Monterey County. The lawsuit also names as defendants Salinas and King City, which had agreements with the company to convert motels into permanent housing for the indigent, Between 2020 and 2022, Los Angeles for-profit developer Shangri-La received more than $114 million in state funds from the Department of Housing and Community Development — as part of the agency’s Project Homekey program.

Richard Jason Mountford Of P.G. Popped By IRS

Who is the other person?

Wheres My Tax Refund

A former Pacific Grove man who purchased more than $360,000 in new vehicles and gold bars after filing bogus tax returns and receiving nearly $900,000 in tax “refunds” admitted to the crimes in federal court last week and faces up to a decade in prison when he’s sentenced in April, according to prosecutors. On Jan. 4, Richard Jason Mountford, 44, pleaded guilty to conspiring to file false claims against the United States, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office Eastern District of California.

From 2016 to 2020, Mountford conspired with another person — who prosecutors do not identify — to submit false income tax returns claiming refunds to which they were not entitled, according to prosecutors.

Another Rubbish Roundabout Roust

For Congress, Cedar, and Sunset. Admittedly not my favorite 5 way stop. I forget all right of way rules I learned and just go when it looks safe. P.G. has already blown $800.000. Cost of roundabout said to be $10,000,000. Probably double that after the bike lane no one will use is added plus an underpass for mountain lions.

If the consultant determines that a roundabout is the best alternative for the intersection, and the council OKs the idea, it could cost more than $10 million. But because of a ballot measure sponsored by the Transportation Agency for Monterey County that voters passed in 2016, P.G. will have $5 million to use toward the junction. The first phase is also being paid for by the measure.
