DIU Driver To Get Second Second Opinion

“My client would like an independent evaluator,” she said. “She sees Dr. Fithian and Dr. Finnberg fairly often, and with a split decision, I’m uncomfortable with Dr. Fithian going back again.” (When ordered by the court, the $325 to $500 experts receive for the evaluations is provided by taxpayers.)

She sees both of the these “doctors” often and they do not agree on the woman’s mental health?

Have that third doctor examine the first two doctors while we are at it. Are they fit to prescribe drugs?

Artists Unclear Of Concepts

Burglars broke into First Night Monterey’s Archer Park Community Center headquarters Tuesday night, robbing the small nonprofit that stages the city’s ambitious and art-heavy New Year’s Eve celebration of their Mac computer and external hard drives.

“To break in and rob us … of our artwork, desktop publishing and the two external hard drives which were the backups…it’s all gone.

Concept #1 – Thieves do not care if it’s a Mega-Corporation, a working person, or an artiste. They will steal anything they can.

Concept #2 – Don’t store you backups in the same place as the computer. In a fire, flood or yes even theft, your backups are only as safe as the computer. Keep your back ups off site.

Bad Economy Hitting Tourist Business

Business owners said they are seeing a definite shift in buyer mentality.

Don Martine, owner of the Martine Inn, said reservations have been erratic and he anticipates that business will be down 5 to 7 percent from where it was last year.

Monterey Bay Aquarium officials said they aren’t sure the exact cause of the attendance drop, either the poor economy or a new California Academy of Science opening in San Francisco.

Good time to let some dieing businesses go.

Green Spot: Sustainability Enlightenment Or Trash Dump?

Our own little slice of dirty hippy culture. Hate to say we told you so, but it’s starting to look like a meth-lab/rats nest. Time to call the landlord – Greg Beardsley.

Trash piled up.

Measure X – Pacific Grove Schools Begging For More Money

In 2003, voters approved Measure A, a parcel tax used to assist with the funding of the programs currently in place but that is due to expire. Measure X is an extension of the existing parcel tax and will not raise property taxes. Without Measure X, many of these programs will need to be reduced or eliminated.

So there’s $6,000,000 for a new stadium

And we have $1,700,000 to replace the school district offices (which would end up being good enough for students)

Before voting to keep sending them more money, ask where they get all the millions for these things?

Deer Season

The Hear-old reports a competition for amour resulting in a broken window

The two males were clashing with their antlers, an annual rite of the blacktail deer’s rutting season, on the lawn of the apartment complex about 10:30 a.m.

“They locked those big horns,” she said, then one of the bucks’ antlers pierced the window screen and punched through the window glass, scattering shards all around the living room.

Stoned Deer

Reported in the Pine Cone, a buck with a 2×4 wrapped in rope stuck to it’s antlers:

A young buck who stands out like a sore thumb because he has a 3-foot wooden stake caught in his antlers appears to be healthy, though wildlife officials have different opinions on what to do with the animal.

Amazingly, the deer has been able to drink and eat and get around despite the extra appendage, which the animal acquired in July after getting caught up in construction fencing in Pacific Grove’s Asilomar neighborhood.

“We are fielding 10 calls a day about the deer with the board in his horns,” said Elizabeth Conti-Yeo, P.G.’s animal control officer.

That buck with the extra appendage now has a huge advantage and DOESN’T WANT it removed.

Mayor Cort Dismisses Write In Challenger

Hollister For Mayor

Mayor Dan Cort this week blasted a last-minute write-in campaign by a longtime city resident to run against him in the Nov. 4 election.

Ted Hollister, who has lived in Pacific Grove for 49 years, announced himself last week as a write-in candidate for mayor, which makes him Cort’s only competition.

“I’ve been overwhelmed with the response,” Hollister told The Pine Cone. “Honestly, it’s very humbling to see all the support.”

But Cort accused Hollister, 77, of not attending a city council meeting in years and questioned the former veterinarian’s motivation for seeking the job.

“We have serious problems facing this city, and if you haven’t been at a city council meeting in four or five years, then really you have no business inserting yourself into something as important as serving on the council,” Cort said.

Our passive and kind mayor is getting a bit testy. He seems surprised that anyone would want question him or take a stab at leading the town,

Wile E Coyote Appetite

The Pacific Grove Police Department is reporting an increase in coyote activity in Pacific Grove.

In the past several weeks, people have reported a number of coyote sightings and most recently coyotes attacked and killed a dear in the 600 block of Balboa, police said.

According to police, coyotes are prominent in the Central Coast region and it’s important to remember the following:

Do not feed coyotes.

Eliminate sources of water, particularly in dry times of the year.

Secure garbage containers.

Feed pets indoors whenever possible and pick up leftovers if feeding outdoors.
