Today at the post office. Susan is packing up her stuff. She parks her car:
1. Double Parked.
2. Blocking the handicap spot.

I pointed out she was blocking the handicap spot, and I heard laughter from Loosin’ Susan.
Controversial article – it started when a letter from the editor in the Hear-Old ranted about the police not enforcing parking at businesses on Lighthouse Avenue. Though that writer was incorrect about the police involvement (Nob Hill and Longs Drugs parking lots are private property – enforcement is up to the property owners), it brought to my attention that parking limits were not being enforced or being selectively enforced in PG. It appeared that businesses owners and their employees were taking up a large amount of parking spaces on the Avenue and side streets where time limited parking is posted. It’s not hard to see – many of the cars have the store names on them, they can be seen every day, often in the same parking spaces.
Here’s the Favaloro’s GMC truck right in front of the (now out of business) restaurant.
Later the same truck, now minus it’s door signs is always seen on Grand just below Lighthouse:
And again with the Favaloros Mitsubishi that is always downtown:
In December they hid it over behind the closed down theater. Would they choose to park in any of the 24 hour spots in the lot? No, it’s in a 2 hour spot.
The Favaloros must also have this Suburban.\
This Mitsubishi once sported signs on it’s doors for Cafe Ariana. Since the first posting, the signs have been removed.
In the same block is the Victorian Corner. The streets are full of cars from that business too. This Chevy truck is always parked on Fountain:

They have since closed and move to a lower rent area. Still the same? Yep, still the same.
Also we have the Bratty Real Estate office. It’s workers take the 20 minute spots with a pickup truck:

Grand Avenue Art Works – did they champion to have the curb in front of their place painted yellow so people might see them? If that’s not enough, they borrow a tactic from Cafe Ariana – magnet signs on the car doors making a parked rolling billboard.

Chili Great Chili parks it’s van in the center – outside the defined parking spaces, making it hard for emergency vehicles to navigate the narrow street.
Then the Chili Great Chili pickup is in the 20 minute zone:
Just south of Harzara is St Vinnies. City Councilman Ron Schenk works there. Parks his Jeep in front during campaign time, better advertising.
Also on the campaign trail is Susan Goldbeck. She cannot find the energy to carry her political paraphernalia back to her car, so she double parks. Blocking the handicap spot.
The post office is also a place the cops could rake in the tickets. This BMW driver can afford to park in the red zone:

The point made is that it appears that parking enforcement is lax. If we don’t want meters to feed all day, get the parking patrol out and write some tickets.
Saw Dawn Megigi get real upset in the council meeting over these cartoons. Censorship champions come out of the woodwork when the subject matter is not on their side.

Goldbeck reports she has had a $3500 laptop computer containing important information, stolen from her home.
She reported to police that someone entered her unlocked residence Tuesday and removed her laptop computer. No other items were disturbed or taken. The Pacific Grove police department says the case is being investigated.
Wonder if any REAL important information was on that laptop – we’ve heard stories about personal information being exposed when entrusted individuals lose computers.
Or is the Holman Hotel Project strapped? It does have “wide pubic support” after all.

Later, Susan populates the town with signs before the allowed date. Goldbeck is not in a safe seat in her bid for Mayor. So when she loses, the saying is We’re Loosin Susan.
Susan Goldbeck Turns Feast Of Lanterns Into A Campaign Pitch
Susan Goldbeck writes in the Hear-Old:
In the long term, the key to this new direction for our town is the building of a Victorian hotel on the site of the old El Carmelo Hotel, where the Holman Building now sits. This venue, which has always been a focal point of our community, would include meeting rooms, retail stores and parking. It would attract small meetings of business people from the San Francisco Bay Area and San Joaquin Valley, where 80 percent of our visitors come from.
There’s a reason the El Carmlelo Hotel is no longer – it was a major flop. Got disassembled and moved to Pebble Beach.
The model of Nader Agha’s 600 room hotel looks hideous, IMHO. And we don’t really look forward to fighting hundreds of rental cars clogging 68 or Lighthouse. Earthquakes and 9/11 should have taught you that banking on tourism is not something to always count on.
Not to mention 600 more shower heads gushing our limited water and 600 more toilets flushing into our famous sewers.

The letter, which was addressed to Terry Spitz in the Monterey County DA’s office, presented Goldbeck’s case for what she believes is a conspiracy orchestrated by Mayor Morrie Fisher to get rid of the chief so that his friend, Sergeant Richard Cox, could move up in the department.
Goldbeck also accused (Ron) Schenk of having “at least two meetings” with Cox at Schenk’s home while the officer was on duty. Later in the council meeting, Schenk admitted to being a friend of Cox, but claimed that the meetings were related to their positions on the board of their church and dealt with church business.
