Cannery Row Offers Shuttle Bus For ATT Golf

Park right next to the bus pickup in popular areas. P.G should have supported this shuttle instead of making people park all over the residential & beachfront areas, only to have to walk to the Mvsevm.

The Monterey express shuttle will operate from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 11 and from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday (Feb. 12-14) and from 6 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 15. The express shuttle will leave from Cannery Row, Fisherman’s Wharf and Downtown Monterey and drop fans off at the tournament.

On Cannery Row, golf fans can catch the shuttle at Wave Street at Prescott Street, across from Willy’s Smokehouse and park in the Cannery Row garage using the entrance off Foam Street. The shuttle from Fisherman’s Wharf leaves from the mouth of the Wharf at Oliver Street off Scott Street and parking is available in the Waterfront lot off Del Monte Avenue. In Downtown Monterey, the shuttle leaves from the Monterey Conference Center at Portola Plaza and parking is available in the downtown Monterey garages using the entrances off Tyler or Franklin Streets.

Pebble Beach Hiring Fewer Temp Workers At Crosby

Guess they are using more P.B. full time employees. I’d do the same, I’d rather give my workers the overtime $$ than to temps.

The jobs range from food and beverage, to cashiers, and shuttle drivers, however when some people who are normally hired to work the event showed up to fill out their applications they were turned away and told they would not be hired. According to Pebble Beach management the economy is to blame.

Golf Fees Going Up

On Wednesday, the City Council voted 5-0 to impose surcharges on holders of annual passes for the Pacific Grove Municipal Golf Course.

Players holding passes will pay $1 for a nine-hole round of golf and $2 for 18 holes, in addition to the annual pass fee.

Resident and avid golfer Jim Willoughby objected to the fee, saying the “nickel-and-dime” surcharge amounted to a 32 percent increase for players like him, who play two rounds a week at the course.

An annual senior’s pass costs $650, and the surcharge would run up to $208 more a year in his case, Willoughby said, adding that it is an undue burden on seniors living on fixed incomes.

Steve Thomas, a member of the Pacific Grove Men’s Golf Club, said the surcharge “will create ill will.”

At $8.58 per golf round, Willoughby and others are still getting a bargain, said Councilman Dan Davis. Non-residents pay $45 a round.

And if high golf fees pee you off, there’s The UroClub™

Uro Club

The privacy shield hooks to the sides of the pants or belt and adds stability. This allows freedom of the hands to manipulate the club and zipper.

The UroClub™ is intended to eliminate anxiety and any feeling of uneasiness on the course. It can be emptied at the nearest restroom or later on, when the golfer returns home.

Capacity: Over half a liter, twice the volume commonly urinated.

Raise Golf Fees To Pay For Lighthouse Upkeep?

Councilman Dan Davis said that because the city took responsibility for maintaining the lighthouse as part of an agreement to acquire the back nine holes of the municipal golf course, revenue from golf fees should help.

On June 18, the council will discuss a $2 surcharge for 18 holes and $1 for nine-hole rounds at the city golf course played on annual card privileges.

Old Grumpy Golfers

Sounds like a fair deal. Unless you are a cranky golfer.

Perhaps the city manager would like to start yet another new trend for designer golf courses by charging a fee for use of the putting green. It wouldn’t surprise me if the city would require your score card to be turned in at the end of each round for an additional overcharge of a nickel per swing. How about improving concentration by installing parking meters in the parking lot?

So THAT’S What P.G. Is Famous For!

Read it and gag.

Some puff piece reports that Pacific Grove is famous for golf and B&Bs. I always thought it was butterfly migrations and schoolkids in parades.

Guess the transformation into a Carmel stepchild is complete. Calling all newlyweds and nearlydeads!

Article mentions “affordable” $30 bottles of wine and the $140 purses made from junk car parts.

As for the markups, Walter said the philosophy is simple.

“We want people to try new wine,” she said. “They can come here and get something for $30 that they’d only look at another restaurant.

In addition to woman’s clothing, Johnson sells old California license plates that have been fashioned into purses, CD holders and address book covers. Her store occupies an old pharmacy with a lovely tin ceiling that dates to 1888.

Back in Pacific Grove, you can hire bikes or take a sea kayak tour. Or try your luck with a skim board at Lovers Point Park, which has a protected, small swimming beach of silky, pale blond sand.

(don’t mention the high fecal content of that sand )

No Car Shows On The Golf Course

Red Ferraris On Golf Course

A vote to let negotiations start was defeated 3-2, with council members Scott Miller, Lisa Bennett and Susan Nilmeier opposed.

Council members Vicki Stilwell and Alan Cohen were in favor of looking at bringing the Concorso to Pacific Grove. Mayor Dan Cort and Councilman Daniel Davis recused themselves from the discussion because they live next to the golf course.

Wadsworth said he was looking for a more scenic setting for the Concorso, and the ongoing construction at the show site at the Bayonet and Blackhorse golf courses in Seaside was a problem.

About time to put a stop to the selling out of the town. The tourists, weekenders and business owners don’t have to put up with off-topic events like this.

Party On! Golf Clubhouse Open For Events

The City Council on Wednesday voted 4-2 to uphold last month’s city Planning Commission decision to allow the clubhouse to expand its operating hours and meal service and add live entertainment.

In addition, the amendment allows the facility to use its tournament room and grill for wedding receptions, service club meetings and other events and provide “non-amplified” music and entertainment.

The tournament room has a capacity of 45, and the restaurant can handle 74 customers, according to City Manager Jim Colangelo.

Psst! Morrie’s Free Golf Deal Is Off

Old Grumpy Golfers

A settlement that would have given former Pacific Grove Mayor Morrie Fisher a lifetime discount on playing fees at the city’s municipal golf course has been unanimously rejected by the Pacific Grove City Council.

City Attorney David Laredo brought the settlement, reached through mediation out of court, to the council Nov. 5 and the council appeared receptive at the time. Laredo said both parties agreed that pursuing Fisher’s lawsuit to recover his free golf wasn’t worth the potential expense, and that settlement would allow city officials to concentrate on more pressing business.

According to the agreement, Fisher will be allowed to purchase an annual golf pass at a fee not to exceed half of the regular senior citizen annual rate of $635 for unlimited golf.

Fisher had used a free golf pass signed by former City Manager Gary Bales for nearly 15 years before the council revoked what he said was a lifetime privilege and he filed suit to recover the benefit after the City Council rejected his claim.

The city contended that Fisher’s golf privileges were not authorized or enforceable, and that they ended along with privileges enjoyed by others in the past.

Letters From The Editor – the next day

Slow news day?

The front page for Morrie? Hard to believe that the news is so slow that we have to worry about the former mayor of Pacific Grove’s golf benefits.

On the other hand, it’s a good example of how the “good old boys” got our city into the mess it is now.

Morrie Fisher and his good old boys got Pacific Grove into the financial situation it is trying to get out of and then he wins in a lawsuit he brings against the town. For all the money he has cost Pacific Grove, I don’t see how he can show his face around here or on the golf course.

Maybe he will be on the next Southwest Airlines commercials that get you out of town quickly and cheaply for making such stupid blunders.
