Obvious Building Mistake #3,495,707

Art Center Lettering
Couple of local reports on the theft of the lettering on the ugly sign in front of the “Pacific Grove Performing Arts Center” also known as the middle school auditorium. Art Center Last Letter
When you build it on a school grounds, make it kid proof. Little alpha bits held on so poorly that they were popped off with little or no damage to the stucco make it appear that no forethought was given to the surroundings.

Pave Our Waterfront – Ocean View Plaza Approved

The cannery that once stood there was a favorite place to play. Loaded with danger and excitement. And many easy access points.

The Ocean View Plaza on Cannery Row could not receive approval without securing a water supply. But the project now has its water after the California Coastal Commission voted 10-2 on Thursday to approve the project’s proposed desalination plant.

The plan calls for a replica of the San Xavier fish-reduction plant warehouse, a community park, renovation of the Stohans building, a history-oriented plaza and a bridge across the 400-500 block of Cannery Row.

Glenn Blevins Pleads No Contest

Blevins once was from P.G.

According to the district attorney’s office, Blevins picked up the victim, a 31-year-old man looking for work as a day laborer, on Aug. 10, 2007 in Seaside. He then drove the victim to an abandoned building in Fort Ord.

Once inside the building, Blevins struck the victim several times, causing him to lose consciousness.

Tough Times For P.G. Hardware

All that boils down to one thing: profit margins are slimmer than ever at Pacific Grove Hardware.

Nonetheless, the same high fuel costs that are pushing his own costs up are also being felt by customers, and (Bill) Derowski thinks many of his local customers are opting to shop close to home rather than driving further to big-box hardware stores in neighboring cities, where prices may sometimes be lower but savings could be absorbed by the extra mileage.

Amazing store – very well stocked and helpful. Hope there’s enough support to keep them afloat.

Stamm Verdict – Mistrial, Hung Jury

Stamm Takes Stand

David Stamm faced 10 counts of crimes related to a child. In deliberations since last Thursday, the jury did not reach a verdict in charges dealing with lewd acts on a child, including oral sex, dissuading a witness, and possessing child porn.

The jury did, however, decide that Stamm was not guilty on one charge of oral sex with a child under the age of 18. The Monterey County District Attorney’s office said more jurors were leaning toward guilty than not guilty on the other nine counts.

Fire Breaks Out In Pebble Beach!

Smoke filled the Del Monte Park area, the constant drone of copters and air tanker planes can make a person pause and think what would they do if evacuated. Prepared?

Fire Helicopter

From The Hear-old

The fire broke out about 5:35 p.m. near Congress and Majella roads and was contained quickly, said Capt. Jennifer Valdez of Calfire-Pebble Beach Community Services District.

Crews were assisted by two air tankers and a helicopter in stopping the fire. No structures were threatened, Valdez said.

From KSBW:

The forest was so dense that fire crews had to cut their way in to get to the fire.

“We had an air tanker in and they made five drops,” said Battalion Chief Dennis King with the Department of Forestry. “Then we had a helicopter that worked it and probably made a dozen drops on it.”
