It wasn’t expected, but Monterey Bay Aquarium is on pace to match last year’s attendance.
And considering what a big impact the aquarium makes on the local economy, that’s good news for Monterey County as well.

“It’s flat out been a good year,” said Ken Peterson, the aquarium’s communications director.

The aquarium had projected a drop of nearly 250,000 from last year’s 1.9million attendance, Peterson said, based mainly on the weak economy.

Two No On J Votes

Another tax request, again for city services. I cannot support this or any other begging from the city until they show that they can manage what they have already.

Need a start?
– End all city supported funding of the ineffective Chamber Of Commerce.
– Cut all ties with “ICLEI”, the Local Governments for Sustainability.
Think that this added tax will benefit the library only? Wrong. The city will be able to draw money away from the library to fund other things. Say forinstance, sustainable seagull repellent for the roof of city hall.

Monterey Hear-Old, 8/25

“It is a way to set the library up with a base outside of the city’s general fund,” Becklenberg said.

Passage of the measure, he said, could secure the future of the library and provide general fund savings of approximately $400,000 toward the $2 million city budget deficit, since Measure J funding would allow the city to use its regular library budget for other purposes until the budget can be balanced.

Wither Oh Willys Smokehouse

Willys Smokehouse

This excellent establishment that served us carnivores well is no longer with us. Sorry to see it shut, it was one of the few reasons that drew me to the ‘Row. Especially pleasurable was seeing Midwest rubes be seated, look at the menu and then head for the door. My kind of place.

At least we still have had Henry’s BBQ. Very recommended, I mean a combo platter with FOUR different meats comes in at $18. That’s $3 less than a plate a noodles at Joe Rombi!

Sicko Poisoning Cats

Believing her cat’s death was accidental, Edwards consoled herself with the company of her other cat, Todd. But a few days after Lily’s death, the manager of Edwards’ apartment complex said she had discovered a black styrofoam meat tray with antifreeze in one of the complex’s flower beds.
“I picked it up and threw it away,” said the woman, who declined to be identified.

Then, the manager found a tin pie tray filled with antifreeze on a trail behind the apartment complex – an obviously intentional act to kill animals.

Pimping The Town To US Open Golf Fans

Welcome To The Crosby

A marketing plan is needed for Pacific Grove’s golf course to build up attendance and prepare for next summer’s U.S. Open tournament at Pebble Beach, the City Council agreed Wednesday.

Mayor pro tem Bill Kampe had previously proposed that the council appoint a five-member ad hoc committee for the task.

But newly appointed Councilman Robert Huitt suggested the job might better be handled by a professional marketer using city resources, including the Recreation Commission, the three golf clubs affiliated with the municipal course, tourist-oriented business groups and economic development groups.

Barely on the job and Huitt is spending like a sailor on shore leave.

“MSCO Is Corrupt” Says Art Theft “Victim”

Animal Crackers

“The Sheriff’s Office has attempted to paint us in a false light due to their own corruption and incompetence,” Amadio said in the statement. “This information to an unbiased eye should cast serious doubt on the Sheriff’s Office and should explain why they failed to … properly investigate. We think the Sheriff’s Office reeks of corruption and incompetence.”

“Art Theft” Is A Scam Says MCSO

Animal Crackers

If this is some kind of publicity stunt, they are doing it all wrong..

Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said today that the Sept. 25 heist appears to be something else: a scam by one or both of the alleged victims, an aspiring lawyer who once sold puppies and a retired Harvard Medical School professor.

“This whole thing stinks,” said sheriff’s Cmdr. Mike Richards, after explaining at a news conference here that the men were the case’s only suspects. “We’re trying to determine what type of criminal enterprise they may be involved in.”

Pebble Beach Art “Theft” – Someone’s Getting Arrested

This story gets nuttier every day. The online public is not buying it one bit. Perhaps the SO feels the same. It’s a fun read.

The men who say they lost tens of millions of dollars worth of fine art in a Pebble Beach home burglary sought Friday to patch a rift with the county Sheriff’s Office.

Meanwhile, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman said the investigation into the large-scale art heist could lead to unrelated criminal charges.
