Patricia Conklin, 47, was convicted of three counts of elder abuse at a jury trial in August 2013. At the time, she was placed on felony probation with the eight-year prison sentence suspended pending successful completion of probation.
In July, Conklin was found to be in violation of several terms and conditions of here probation, prompting imposition of the full eight-year sentence.
The second and third counts related to endangerment of her mother on March 9, 2013. On that day the defendant went to a skilled nursing facility where her mother was recovering from the surgery. Conklin went to the facility and demanded the release of her mother while accusing the staff of wanting her mother’s money.
“She also made threatening statements to the staff. She then took her mother home where she had failed to prepare for her mother’s return,” the District Attorney’s Office said in a release. “The home had numerous tripping hazards, no assistive devices to help her mother and no qualified nursing care. The defendant also told police the toilets weren’t working.”

License Plates Being Stolen
Know what I call vehicle burglars in Del Monte Park?

Pacific Grove police officers responded to the 1000 block of Austin Avenue on Friday after approximately five vehicles had their front or rear license plates taken off the vehicles.
Residents are urged to keep a look out and report any suspicious circumstances to the Police Department.

Great White Shark Population Boom

Could it be the result of all those tasty otters and sea lions that are also protected?
“White sharks can’t be fished or targeted or taken both by state and federal laws so these regulations give them the opportunity to reproduce and increase in population,” said David Ebert, director for the Pacific Shark Research Center at Moss Landing Marine Laboratories.
Nut Thieves, Take Notice
Rolling with sack of stolen nuts is no joke.

Favaloros Might Just Take Their Fence And Go
Pick a fight with the Favaloros, eh? That’s what they like. According to the newz, the fence must be bolted permanently to the sidewalk due to liquor rules. So is it a cafe or a bar?
City Manager Tom Frutchey told News Channel 5 the city authorized the business to build temporary, movable fencing, but not permanent. Otherwise, he said Cafe Ariana is making public property, private.
On Friday, the city made a visit to the business and said it would help take down the fencing. The city told News Channel 5 it would be willing to weld steel bars to the bottom of the fence so that it’s movable.
Favaloro said she’s ready to close her business of nearly 21 years because the city went back on its word
Please. Leave. Don’t forget to give back the sidewalk you fenced off.
Dog Owners Think That Someone Else Picks Up DooDoo Bags
News comes from Carmel but I spotted the same behavior on Lighthouse Ave

Although there are dog bag dispensers at Carmel Beach, SOS has found that many visitors are bagging their pets’ waste and leaving it on the sand, rather than walking it to a garbage can.
“Plastic bags of dog waste on the beach are a serious issue,” said Rachel Kippen, SOS Program Manager. “Not only are they an eyesore and horribly unpleasant, but they also have a direct impact on some of our most critical species, including the endangered southern sea otters that call Carmel’s kelp forest home.”
Some do not even bother to pick up or direct their pooch to to curb –

Is Parking A Real Problem In P.G?
So much that Moe is offering thirty bucks if you get a ticket. What next? Moe should offer free car washes if the gulls poop on your car.
And no matter what the parking enforcement is I see that the 300 block of Fountain remains as all day employee parking.

So why the spike in May then? Police said they started sending officers out part-time more that month — mostly in response to complaints from businesses.
Between the two parking enforcement officers, they usually issue anywhere between four and 600 citations per month — for an average of about 6,000 citations per year.
And if that two-hour window isn’t enough for you to do your dining and shopping and you wind up with a parking ticket, Ammar has a solution.
“What we typically do is offer 30 dollars — the cost of a citation — for dinner or lunch anywhere in downtown Pacific Grove,” he said.
Those offers are made on a case by case basis — with proof of your receipt.
Favaloro Fences In The Tables So You Can Be Under The Table

So is is a Cafe or is it a bar? The drama goes on about the loss of the sidewalk in front of Cafe Ariana.
In order to serve alcohol, some type of enclosure is required by the Department of Alcohol Beverage Control. The owners at Cafe Ariana feel the rug is being pulled out from underneath them.
“I think its kind of sad that there’s opposition to this because Pacific Grove has always been a sleepy town and I know we’ve been here for almost 21 years and it hasn’t been getting easier,” Favaloro said.
Monterey To Hawaii In A Rowboat
Not a repeat of last weeks story of paddling to Pupukea, this trip was successful.
Sami Inkinen, the co-founder of real estate search and information site Trulia, and his wife, Meredith Loring, left from Monterey early Wednesday morning, according to Iniken’s post on Twitter.
They’re planning to row the 2,400 miles across the Pacific Ocean to Oahu, in a 20-foot long, 5-foot wood carbon fiber boat named Roosevelt.
They’re hoping their journey helps raise awareness about the risks of sugar consumption and healthy eating. Donations made to their campaign — which they call Fat Chance Row — will go to the nonprofit Institute for Responsible Nutrition at UC San Francisco.
