“If you get a retailer or a restaurant or you’ve got a revenue producing entity, the city really needs the revenue,” Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce president Moe Ammar.

Ammar said what this city doesn’t need more of is benefit shops. Right now the city has 13 of them including nonprofits, thrift shops and consignment stores. Ammar said those shops only pay sales tax and their business license tax is limited to only $15 a year. With that said, a prime location has just opened up on Lighthouse Avenue and with it, an opportunity. After 50 years of being in business, Trotter’s Antiques has officially shut its doors.

Juan The Builder Measured Twice, Cut Costs Illegally

Business comes crashing down just like his work at 419 Congress.Juan The Builder Sunk It

Normal contractor crimes of license and workers comp fraud. Amazing that more are not caught.

The District Attorney’s office said it received a complaint in 2012, stating Rosas’ business, Juan the Builder and Associated, Inc., was operating without a valid license and without workers’ compensation insurance for his employees.

During a joint investigation, fraud investigators said they worked with the Contractor State License Board and found Rosas had been been fraudulently reporting a minimum payroll to the State Compensation Insurance Fund from March 2007 to September 2012.

Too Many Chiefs Trying To Solve Traffic Jams On Lighthouse

Common sense solutions go by the wayside as planners think up more ways to win the war on cars.

Delays

Are there improvements we can look forward too? Yes there are, but the stakeholders have to come together and agree what’s best for the community of Monterey in this mecca of tourism.

Planners with the City of Monterey have been working on this issue for over 10 years. 9-11 was the beginning of the mega traffic issues after access across the Presidio was cut off. That left Lighthouse Avenue and the Holman Highway as the only funnel points off the peninsula.

Progress is slow on the Lighthouse avenue corridor. Since 2010, planners have been presenting ideas in workshops to make Lighthouse Avenue one way and Foam Street one way in the opposite direction. Planners have also proposed more plans for mass transit, bicycles and pedestrians and down played vehicles.

Unleash The Falcons On The Gulls!

Never did see the hawks out flying. I think having bird expert walking the streets with a falcon distracted people from noticing all the gull poop. After all, the real problem remains unchecked.

The Falcon

A sense of urgency to get seagulls to fly the coop. In recent years, they’ve become a nuisance and health hazard to the people who live, work and visit the area.

“The poop everywhere doesn’t make the town look very attractive to shoppers,” local business owner Janneke Rowland-Wolken said.

“You don’t want to be nasty towards the seagulls, they are part of our small little town here. But you do want to treat the problem and I think it’s a nice and environmentally friendly way,” Rowland-Wolken said.

Monday was orientation day for the birds. Once they get comfortable with the environment, they’ll be out flying around Thursday or Friday of this week. But that’s not the end of Mardin’s work. She’ll probably be back this summer when tourism picks up and more people are dining outside when gulls are there for the free food.

Relationship Ends In Stabbing Death Then Jumping Off A Roof

With a bar owner intervening and a woman waiting for a bus.

Late Wednesday night Monterey officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the 200 Block of Laine Street.

It happened at 10:21pm, and the initial report indicated the woman was stabbed by a man she knew at a home. Officers located a woman suffering from multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect had fled the scene before officers arrived.

Shortly after, the suspect was found just blocks away near the intersection of Lighthouse and Reeside. Police say the suspect was unconscious and had significant injuries resulting from a fall from the rooftop of Oya Inc hair salon.

Carbone took pictures with his cell phone of Huntington lying on the ground, as officers arrested him and took him to the hospital. Carbone said initially he thought a cab driver may have hit Huntington, but another woman waiting for a bus was (said) what happened.

“I said, did that car just hit him? And she looked in the air and said he just jumped off that roof,” Carbone said.

Drink Up At The Golf Club

The hard stuff’s on the way to save us. Why is tax revenue always brought up when someone wants something?

Golf Club Drink

Point Pinos Grill operates inside a building owned by the city of Pacific Grove. Earlier this year, the restaurant operator said he applied for a full liquor license and hit a snag when the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control realized the use permit didn’t allow for the switch from just beer and wine to include hard alcohol.
Now the majority of city leaders said they’re willing to make the change, because it’s a restaurant just like any other in the city.

“The more revenue we have the more sales tax we collect and one again the more money that goes to (the city) and more people we employ, locally, who live locally and then spend their paycheck a locally,” said Point Pinos Grill operator Dory Ford.

Jason Rutt The Babysitting Burglar

Lock your doors people!

Jason Rutt

PGPD say 29-year-old Jason Rutt entered the home through an unlocked door and proceeded to shower, eat a meal, then went into the small children’s bedroom and began feeding them.

The parents at the home awoke when they heard the shower water running, Rutt took off and investigators believe he burglarized two more homes gaining access through unlocked garages.

Camo Man Arrested For BB Gunning Children

Why, of course it was just another day on Arkwright Ct, the gateway to Del Monte Park.
Leif Rowan

Pacific Grove police officers were called to Arkwright Circle around 6 p.m. There they found Leif Rowan arguing with residents of the apartment complex.

Witnesses told police Rowan had been shooting at kids with the BB gun, hitting one child but not causing injury. They said he then threatened to hit a resident while brandishing a metal horseshoe, battered a 16-year-old and was ultimately restrained by the teen’s father.

Missing Swimmer Identified

A newspaper in Contra Costa County is identifying the 18-year-old who went missing at Asilomar Beach last weekend as a Moraga resident.

News 24-680 identified the man as Bryan Capdevielle, who had gone swimming with his younger brother.

Local surfers were able to get the 16-year-old to safety but when they went back for Bryan, he’d already gone under, officials said.
