Nearly 50 years ago, Howard Cowen hand-built the infamous, giant nutcracker that stands tall over Candy Cane Lane in Pacific Grove.
ehhhhhh, it used to stand in front of the PG Fire Station dressed as a fireman.

Convicted rapist Thomas Pollacci of Pebble Beach pleaded not guilty Wednesday to three counts of forcible rape, Monterey County prosecutor Michael Breeden said.
The new charges relate to alleged rapes that took place in 2007 and 2008, according to testimony at Pollacci’s preliminary hearing in November. He faces a possible life sentence in the new case.
Trial is scheduled for April 11, Breeden said.

A revised tree ordinance that would do away with criminal penalties could come before the Pacific Grove City Council for approval next spring.
The ordinance would offer incentives for property owners to plant and maintain trees and would allow private property owners to pay to trim city trees.

So the owners prepare to sue the source. Out of town owners I may add. A different location may have been better. Many locals avoid tourist traps like the ‘row.

In a phone interview from his home in Chicago, Weinert said many of the theater’s problems could be traced to Toronto-based IMAX Corp. Weinert operated the theater under the corporate name Bella Cinema. Its relationship with IMAX is similar to a franchise, and Weinert hoped for benefits because of that.
That’s some high priced schlock. All Pacific and no Grove. No people, no trees, no homes. What are they thinking?

The idea came from chamber chairman Henry Nigos of Nigos Investments, who heard about the I Wear Your Shirt company from friends in Los Angeles.
Nigos said Ammar is the perfect candidate to be a walking billboard because he’s so visible.
All the money from Rent-A-Moe will go to the chamber. The prices are $500 a month from January through May, $600 from June through October and $450 in November and December, plus cost of shirts or jackets. He will promote the business and answer questions from people he meets.
If this is so great, can we the taxpayers stop funding the Chamber and let it be self funded?
Where’s the outrage?

The arraignment for a 26-year-old Seaside man accused of fatally stabbing the grandmother of his two children in Pacific Grove has been postponed for a second time.
Sunny Nguyen is scheduled to appear in court again on Dec. 21. His family needed more time to hire an attorney.
Have a real sound engineer in charge and the noise would not be so annoying. Feedback squeals and popping are heard well away from whatever event is going on. I’d replace the windows with dual pane if I could.
OK, so I’m a very senior citizen, but I had two preschool grandchildren to worry about. It was so loud that there were a few “eeeuuuooo” feedback bursts. I went to the “command center” tent and registered my complaint. Twice.
First, I got a smile and mumble indicating “It’s all right.” The second time I tried to get through to who appeared to be the sound engineer. I raised my voice to be heard above the din but was just waved off, like, “Get lost, old man!”

Pacific Grove police took Sunny Nguyen, the 26-year-old Seaside resident accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend’s mother to death in her 17 Mile Drive home late the night of Nov. 21, to Monterey County Jail Wednesday night after he was released from the San Jose trauma center where he underwent surgery for stab wounds of his own.
PGPD Chief Darius Engles said forensics experts will determine whether Nguyen’s injuries — including a deep laceration to his neck — were self-inflicted or resulted from a fight with the victim, 46-year-old Judith Salazar.
