Vegetarians Eat Free

In his quest to clamp down on fossil fuel companies and the auto giants, Gore shamelessly avoids talking about something we all could and should do something about as individuals: Eat less or no meat.

Hmmmm? Remaining unconvinced by this vast generalization I commenced to grilling up a second tasty burger, still quite guilt-free, and was amusingly reminded of a bumper sticker I’d recently seen in Taos, N.M. : “Eating red meat isn’t bad for you. Eating fuzzy, green meat is.”

How true! Bon appetit.

Sustainable Thinking – Ban T.V.

Kooks are in the palace. Why the T.V? $30 a year you’ll save – .09 a day. Can they look for better sources of electricity, like nukes?

Energy commission officials said the reason for the proposed new rules is because large Plasma and LCD TVs use a massive amount of energy

The regulations, however, would help a consumer save between $18 and $30 a year on their electricity bill, energy officials said.

Free Speech Still Free . . . For Now

They will be back, probably with a different approach. Mayor Cort says so, ya morons.

“I don’t think stifling the public is the thing to do,” said former Councilman Daniel Miller.

Former Councilman Bob Davis said the purpose of the policy allowing the public to pull consent items “was the right of the public to be informed on every item on the agenda.”

Speaking in favor of the two measures was resident Joy Colangelo, who said that whether residents pull agenda items early in the meeting or wait until the end, “somebody has to wait” because subsequent hearing items on the council agenda are pushed back.

“I guess we’re going back to the drawing board,” Cort said, after council members declined to offer a motion to vote for either item.

Substainable Pacific Grove: Restricting Your Right To Speak, Unless It Fits Their Agenda Is A Good Thing

Joy Colonjello and her Sustainable P.G. ‘Agenda 21′ group’s mission to strip people of their rights & property. She whined at a council meeting that other peoples’ agendas were interfering with hers.

The council will consider today whether to require those who want to address them to fill out speaker cards with their names and addresses beforehand,

As for speaker cards, many public agencies require them, Laredo said, including the Monterey County Board of Supervisors and the cities of Salinas and Santa Cruz. The cards, he said, aid in preparing an accurate record of speakers and the organizations they represent, without interfering with a speaker’s right to engage in anonymous speech.

So they want people to fill out cards before being allowed to speak. So they can visit you o “follow up on matters”, eh?

Sustainable Pacific Grove: Restricting Your Right To Travel Is A Good Thing

It’s a war between the remaining stores on the fast-becoming-a-ghost-town streets and the creepy-hidden-agenda new world order groups.

Two things are right – downtown merchants are not selling much that residents want, and the farmers market is fairly dull.

While merchants generally spoke in favor of moving the market venue, representatives of Sustainable Pacific Grove spoke in favor of keeping it at its current location.

“We want it on Lighthouse, and we want Lighthouse closed as often as possible,” said Joy Colangelo of Sustainable Pacific Grove, which claims 430 members.

“Foot traffic will increase downtown profitability,” she said. “Downtown businesses are not selling things we want to buy. They’re unwilling to adapt. That’s why they’re going under.”

If Lighthouse is closed to motor vehicle traffic and becomes a pedestrian mall, Colangelo said, “we’d be the jewel of the county — a quaint, walkable city.”

Annual Passionfish “Green Business” Report

It is there sustainable approach to serving delicious seafood, which protect our oceans and satisfies our appetites. We are serving fish that are harvested in a manner that is not impacting the environment or another species. We purchase a lot of alchoculture products that are in contained ponds on the land that are not impacting the environment, no pesticides no herbicides,” says co-owner Cindy Walter.

The same not-news article about this restaurant’s “green” pitch ran one year ago in the Hear-Old..

You should see the mountains of landfill-destined garbage and rubbish that this restaurant generates. Look at the grease encroaching the sidewalk leaking from their overflowing dumpster. See the other trash cans blocking the sidewalk. This “green” business practices is a farce.

Mayor Proposes Solar Investment In P.G.

Tuesday night, the City Council and the Pacific Grove Unified School District board met in joint session to talk about sharing resources to save costs.

One of those shared resources, according to Mayor Dan Cort, could be rooftops.

Cort proposed in the joint session that the city and school district offer panel space on their buildings to an investor who would construct solar power-generating panels on them.

There are people that are stupid enough to invest in solar panels for Pacific Grove? We’d need another person crazy enough to climb up there and clean the bird poo off the panels.

Letters From The Editor: Green Is The New Red

In the guise of being “green,” “modern” and “forward-thinking,” Pacific Grove’s government seems to be promulgating some of the same ideas used in the Chinese Cultural Revolution of the 1960s. Everything old is “bad,” everything new is “good.” Throw out everything that has been done in the past, ignore long-standing committees and organizations, fire knowledgeable city employees, or force them to leave, and then try to totally remake Pacific Grove’s institutions. The Cultural Revolution was a complete disaster. I hope Pacific Grove doesn’t follow in China’s footsteps.

Mayor Cort Pitching Solar In P.G.

On Aug. 20 Cort got the City Council’s nod to design a new city reservoir to store stormwater. Now he plans to ask the council to consider solar panels for all city buildings, and possibly P.G. schools.

The array could produce an estimated 550,000 kilowatt-hours per year– almost 90 percent of city buildings’ electricity needs, Perelman says. The electric bill savings could be used to help pay off the loan. In roughly 10 years the city would own the solar panels, which could last another 20-30 years.

That 550,000 kilowatt-hours per year – does it take into consideration things that naturally block the sun in Pacific Grove? Trees, fog and bird poop come to mind..
