Moran furniture store at 842 Lighthouse Avenue that keeps having out of business sales every year. Who wants to bet on a repeat of the “emergency reopening going out of business sale” on May 1?

Four of five vacant storefronts on Lighthouse are filled – lessee, we have another art gallery, another nail shop and another one of those stores full of stuff no one wants but would buy as a gift to someone. The first ex-Business Center is still vacant but shows signs of something happening. Hallmark has been vacant for like 3 years.
Moe Ammar, president of the Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce, is seeing signs that the downtown economy is turning around.
Since the first of the year, five of the six vacancies on Lighthouse Avenue have been filled, leaving only the old Hallmark location empty.
Four of the five spots were filled by merchants who already have businesses in Pacific Grove, Ammar said.The chamber hired retired banker Michael Adamson last fall as business development coordinator, and he was responsible for filling three of the spots.
I think someone is being had over at 842 Lighthouse Avenue.

Check Sears or JC Penney for similar items for less than $400 before thinking this is any real bargain.

Robert Lewis was excited when January 2008 was the best month for sales at his small art gallery — but then the recession hit quickly.
A month later, sales “were virtually zero,” said Lewis. They haven’t been much better since, so Lewis is closing Le Beau Soleil Gallery in downtown Pacific Grove on Saturday.
Now, Lewis said he will spend about half his time painting and marketing his oils, which start at about $5,000.
Hmmm, $5,000 for one of these and the man wonders why sales are zilch.
842 Lighthouse Avenue. Same store opens, prices same furniture at high markup, has same sales, replays the “Going Out Of Business Sale”. Look for the “Emergency Temporary Reopening Sale” in a few months. I would never buy from a store that does this.

Forest Avenue has two new empty properties –
The Business Center that moved to the closed Greens Camera location a year ago. Guess that a store that relies on other businesses just does not have enough customers in P.G. No need to fax a painting or express mail a used dress.
And the weird One Eyed Art gallery is vacant. No more creepy stares directed at City Hall.
That stupid sandwich board sign at the corner of Forest and Laurel needs to be changed again to match the number of galleries up the street.
