Downtown Reave Around – Stockton Parking Meters Robbed

Runaway Mayor’s success story city still not the image of success.

Wanted for questioning:
Cool Hand Luke

City police eventually solved that case when they found the severed heads piled up in a homeless camp and made an arrest.

Now they’re releasing surveillance images of the latest suspected parking meter pilferer.

“We believe he is transient. He does frequent the downtown area, but hopefully once this photograph gets blasted out on the news tonight we’ll be able to figure out exactly who he is,” said Stockton Officer Joseph Silva.

Not only is this trend of thefts disturbing, t’s also costly for the city of Stockton.

Each topless meter represents about $800 worth of replacement fees, installation fees and missing revenue.

Just multiply that by the 682 that have been sliced off with pipe cutters or pried off in the last year and the cost adds up to almost $546,000.

Making Asilomar More Accessible

Funded by fees on those whale tail license plates.

That’s thanks to a grant from the California Coastal Commission, which was used to purchase a sand-friendly beach wheelchair and beach walker for disabled visitors to the beach and Conference Grounds.

“I think this site is a really good place for that money to be spent because we have so many people staying here because of the conference grounds,” said Lisa Bradford, an interpreter there who handles tours and educational programs. “There’s a built-in audience here.”

Bradford applied for the grant money that purchased the new equipment. Funding in the amount of $3,470 paid for both the wheelchair and walker and came out of the Coastal Commission’s Whale Tail Grants Program, which distributes money for programs that educate about the value of coastal resources.

Bruiser The Pig Forced Out Of Town

Hope no one sees my service camel.

Earlier in the public hearing the two spoke to council passionately about their pet, Bruiser, and shared a long list of myths about mini-pigs. Lisa Hanes told council that Bruiser serves as an emotional support animal for her.

City staff told the council that under the Americans with Disability Act, dogs, and in some cases, miniature horses trained to perform tasks for disabled people, are allowed as service animals. Emotional support animals could be allowed with a medical recommendation, and a determination by the city manager.

Besides pigs, the ordinance would also prohibit as pets horses, cows, sheep, goats, gulls, raccoons, deer, squirrels, geese and other “domestic, domesticated, exotic or wild animals.”

“Common household pets” like guinea pigs, reptiles, birds and rabbits would be allowed. Bees and chickens would be allowed with permits.

Doctored Pictures Not Allowed In Bruiser’s Case

Hanes said her frustration also comes from the fact that during Monday’s appeal hearing, she and her husband were not allowed to present prior evidence that Magsalay doctored photos depicting Bruiser’s excrement was worse than it was. Murdock had thrown that evidence out prior to the initial July hearing and because of that it could not be presented during Monday’s appeal, according to Hanes.

“We couldn’t say anything that wasn’t presented in that initial hearing,” said Hanes. “We had to present a case that was a joke from the beginning.”

Newcomer Akeman Wants Less Newcomers

I felt the same way 30 years ago when Ache-man the news reporter moved here and wrote articles and later an instruction manual for moving to the area. The man does not realize he’s been part of the problem all along,

Tom Acheman

“There are times it’s like living in an airport terminal,” Thom Akeman says of the sounds of rolling luggage and loud voices of vacationers on his street located near downtown. Akeman served on a subcommittee that advised the city before last year’s revision, but he says residents’ concerns were not adequately considered.

Freeloader Sheltering Not Going To Cannery Row

Problem is that the bums already disregard responsibility by living their chosen lifestyle. Maintaining any home requires responsibility. Attracting more bums will kill the golden egg laying goose.

Prior to Tuesday’s meeting, commercial parcels in the Lighthouse/Foam/Cannery Row area and all of Monterey’s Oak Grove neighborhood and parts of Casanova Oak Knoll, Del Monte, Del Monte Beach and Villa Del Monte neighborhoods were under consideration.

Public comment on Tuesday also centered on excluding the R3 district with one Laguna Grande resident noting the heavy impact that area is already experiencing from the homeless.

Glenwood neighborhood representative Lee Whitney said residents there were also putting out fires — both figuratively and literally — from the homeless population.

Comments like these came amid other comments about the Peninsula’s overall homeless epidemic and warnings to city officials that housing is but one ingredient to a real solution.

Coast Guard Faces Budget Cuts

US Coast Guard

With the possibility of a hobbled Coast Guard on the Central Coast, local entities that have relied on the guard in the past may have to adjust their expectations.

“We utilize them but not on a routine basis,” said Sean James, the public safety superintendent for the California State Parks’ Monterey District.

“Monterey or Pacific Grove might put in a request where the Coast Guard is not available to respond,” said James.

There might be times when the State Parks’ rescue swimmers would be called in because a Coast Guard boat was not available. Water rescues in the Cannery Row, Point Pinos and Moss Landing areas benefit from the presence of the guard close by.

Unelected Socialists Controlling What You Can Buy

Hands off my stale beer used on the snails.

A group of area activists are expected to gather at Pacific Grove’s Butterfly Sanctuary on Tuesday in defense of the birds, bees, monarchs and visitors that frequent the refuge to observe them.

They’ll be on hand for a press conference and rally starting at 3:30 p.m. in an effort to call attention to the effects of toxic pesticides and insecticides and to make a plea to local nurseries and hardware stores to remove such products from their shelves.
