Matthew G. Gregory, his wife, Danella J. Gregory, and their adult children, Matthew J. Gregory and Gina D. Gregory, operate Central Coast Equine Rescue and Retirement (CCERR) and Wounded Warriors Support Group (WWSG), Becerra said.

“CCERR and WWSG run raffles purportedly to support veterans and horses, but instead spend the donated proceeds for personal use,” the AG’s Office wrote in a press release.

Personal uses included spending $10,000 at a hunting store, buying cars, shopping at Victoria’s Secret and Nordstrom, paying off personal credit card debts, traveling, and restaurant bills, according to the lawsuit.

On Wednesday, the city will look to approve an agreement for the construction of its Great Tide Pools Trails project. In the session right before the meeting, council members will go on a field trip to the Great Tide Pools area which is adjacent to the corner of Lighthouse Avenue and Sunset Drive. It’s in the area that Dan Gho, director of public works, refers to as the Rocky Shores area. There council members will get an overview of where the boardwalk, pathway and walkways are to be constructed.

This article takes the entirely wrong perspective (“Great white shark attacks kayak off Cannery Row,” posted March 31). If there were a shark at Safeway, I would get the hysteria. Instead this story boils down to, “Shark tastes kayak, occupant unscathed except soiled wetsuit.” Recapping: There are white sharks in Monterey Bay. They eat sea lions. There are sea lions on the Breakwater. Dude was kayaking near the Breakwater. A shark in its kitchen came to check out dude’s kayak. Dude was not “attacked” by the shark – his kayak was tasted by the landlord. Dude apparently forgot the lease agreement and is freaking out (as we all would). For being “plucked from the jaws of a white shark” as another article stated, dude is abnormally fine. Patrick Webster | via web

It would be appreciated if your writers would stop making the great white out to be killers. The article is atrocious and the writer should be ashamed. These animals are already a target and killed without remorse even though the chances of being attacked by one is less than that of being struck by lightning. I am appalled that in a community that is about conservation and protecting marine life that this article was written with such malice toward these beautiful animals. I saw the bite marks on the kayak and while I’m sure it was scary for the individual it was clear the shark had no intention of making the kayak a meal. Geoffrey Wade Buckles | via Facebook

It all began nearly a year ago when the manager of a Milton trailer park responded to complaints of loud music around 1 a.m. An altercation ensued that ended with Wolcott charged with the manslaughter of 51-year-old Scott Montie.

Developments over the next year would turn the case on its head, and according to Wolcott’s lawyer, point the finger at the victim instead.

“He was attacked. He tried to restrain Mr. Montie and initiated the phone call to the police. Unexpectedly, Mr. Montie was in distress by the time police arrived.”

He later passed away after being held in a headlock by Wolcott. An autopsy showed Montie had pre-existing medical conditions and was drunk.

A grand jury returned the lesser charge of criminally negligent homicide. A plea deal was then struck with the DA’s office.

“They wanted to see that the defendant accepted responsibility and pleaded guilty to a felony and that was achieved in this case,” DA Karen Heggen said.

Montie’s wife had a change of heart about the brief jail time asking for a tougher sentence that would never come to be.

He has agreed to pay about $9,000 in restitution to cover the cost of Montie’s funeral
