Holly’s Cafe Closed For Good

“We are closing due to the pandemic,” Amy Hanmer wrote.
“I don’t blame our city or state government. Necessary actions were taken to protect the public, and unfortunately they were too costly for us to remain open.”

Hanmer, who continued selling pies after the restaurant closed in March, said she plans to keep doing so.

Ben Harvey Says Close The Streets Off

Parklett Parking

So we can eat our $22 noodles out in the street with the seagulls.

“So far, we have identified two businesses that are in favor of the street closure out of 33 businesses in the two blocks,” Ammar said in a letter urging the council to not OK City Manager Ben Harvey’s plan and keep all of Lighthouse open to vehicles Besides being unpopular, Ammar said Harvey’s plan lacked transparency and would eliminate 48 parking spaces. The Monday farmer’s market shuts down Central Avenue, which means drivers trying to get through the area would have to be rerouted to Laurel or Pine avenues.

What Do The Free Dog Sh*T Mitts Cost The Taxpayers?

Can’t get free plastic bags at the store, but cities were giving away plastic bags to pick up dog poop. Carmel has halted the giveaway.

. . the little baggies available from dispensers all over town that dog walkers use to clean up after their pets, cost taxpayers more than $20,000 annually, city administrator Chip Rerig said this week. So, like many other niceties, they are getting cut out of the budget.

Pack everyone in multiple dwelling units, ride side by side in public transit. Yah don’t breath, folks

The dedicated naysayers and their various acolytes in government and associated lobbying groups have long criticized the typical single-family home, like those found throughout San Mateo County, as a huge waste of space, economic resources, land and other societal requirements.

It’s been the goal of the single-family foes to halt, or severely limit, any further construction of such houses in favor of their preferred option, decidedly unattractive, multi-story, stack-and-pack apartment/condo buildings, many of them monolithic eyesores.

But guess what? The very nature of the single-family home – a stand-alone structure, with front and rear yards, separated from its neighbors (sometimes by fencing) – would tend to allow its residents to self-quarantine in some very laudable and significant degrees of isolation.

Rules Ignored, Beach Closed

Closed in the mid afternoon. Some enforcement, eh?

Right before Easter weekend, City Manager Ben Harvey gave the Pacific Grove Police Department the authority to immediately shut down any outdoor recreational area if too many people showed up and didn’t follow social distancing rules required under Monterey County’s shelter-in-place order. The parks and shore areas remained open.

Two weeks later, on Saturday, April 25, the beautiful sunny weather proved too enticing. Too many people showed up to Lovers Point Beach, at least in the estimation of PGPD. The department shut down the beach about mid-afternoon until further notice citing the lack of social distancing.

Ashley Nicole Keller Krunched The Korvette

So, what was so secret about naming the person in such a serious wreck? Is she THAT Keller?

Ashley Nicole Keller

Authorities say Ashley Nicole Keller,23, was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic Feb. 6 on Ocean View Boulevard in a white Chevrolet Corvette when she lost control and struck four cars. Keller and her male passenger, who had to be extricated, were injured. Keller now faces one misdemeanor charge of reckless driving in the accident which totaled her 2014 Corvette. Four other motorists reported minor pain, police said.

“Ashley Nicole Keller did unlawfully drive a vehicle upon a street and highway in willful and wanton disregard for the safety of persons and property,” the complaint, filed March 28 by deputy district attorney Todd Hornik, alleges.Keller, who court records show had two minor traffic offenses in 2015 and 2016, faces up to 90 days in jail and $1,000 in
fines, if convicted. No attorney information for Keller was listed on the court’s website. The Pacific Grove Police Department refused to identify Keller, whose name was only made public when the criminal complaint was filed.

Howling Coyotes Hunting Humans And Their Dogs

A girl, “quite literally running for her life, came tearing off the path into the street dragging her dogs along with her,” Elyse said in a post on a social media site.
“She was trying to get away from coyotes that were chasing her.”

In trying to help the young woman flee the pack of coyotes — there were as many as five of them, she said — Elyse yelled at her to walk on the ocean side of 17 Mile Drive while Elyse walked on golf course side, since, at that point, the coyotes seemed to be coming after her. “They circled us and came way too close,” said Elyse, who estimated the wild animals got about 10 feet from her. After a few minutes, the other woman and her dogs were picked up by someone in a car and the coyotes left the area.

Party Poopers Tattle On Nextdoor Over Impromptu Gathering

Ninth Street Nannies.

Around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, at least a dozen people gathered in the middle of Ninth Street between Junipero and Spruce avenues to drink, converse with neighbors
and enjoy the weather. But quite a few people took to social media to criticize the participants

“These are not good citizens,” said one Pacific Grove resident who added a common expletive to emphasize the point. Another commenter called them “idiots who can’t social distance,” while someone else said they were “stupid” “Covidiots — that’s what they are,” a woman said. The unidentified revelers, who appeared to be in their 30s and 40s, later moved the party from the street to their front yards. Responding to  complaints, police arrived about an hour after the party started, people on social media said. Police spokeswoman Shayla Hoffman said by the time officers arrived, everyone was standing in their own driveways. Nobody was arrested, she said. Monterey County Undersheriff John Mineau told the press yesterday that “There are teeth in the county health officer’s order” to shelter in place. “It is a misdemeanor to violate” the order.

Single use plastic bags are always more sanitary.

California Bag Ban

Safeway and Albertsons say if you bring your own bag, employees will not be able to touch them or fill them, so you’ll have to do your own bagging. Some stores, like the Safeway at 6310 College Ave. in Oakland, have a large sign informing customers of the policy change. At others, you might not learn about it until the cashier rings you up.

The policy is not unique to supermarkets. Trader Joe’s, Total Wine and More, Target and dollar stores are reportedly following similar procedures.
