Fish Prison Calls Off Family Visits

Do the fish get lonely with no crowds looking at them through the glass cells?

Aquarium Kalisas

“Unfortunately, we had to make the tough call to cancel it this year,” said Monterey Bay Aquarium Chief Operating Officer Cynthia Vernon in an email. “Ongoing effects of the extended closure such as staffing considerations, significant revenue loss, and the timed reservation system are among the challenges that led us to the decision.”

The Community Open House is the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s annual event for residents in Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz counties to come and enjoy the aquarium free of charge throughout a week in December. The Community Open House is made possible in part by the support of its business partners and contributions.

According to the aquarium’s financial information, it lost about $43 million in revenue and support in the year ending Dec. 31, 2020. Admissions alone decreased 85% during that time, though its contributions and grants increased about 19%.

Asilomar Conference Grounds Is Open To Non Infected Visitors

Asilomar Tent Rooms

Hope they double disinfected it. Could be bad for business knowing that a collection of coronavirus victims were sequestered there.

“Asilomar was the first facility to shut down in March of 2020 when the governor decided to house the passengers of the Princess Cruise Ship Discovery at the grounds,” said Moe Ammar, the Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce president.

The conference grounds reopened twice since the beginning of the disruption to business due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Beacon House Closing It’s Doors

Could not recover from Covid it seems.

Beacon House

Senior Vice President Teresa Garate said, “For over six decades, Beacon House has been there for people suffering from substance use disorders and mental health issues, and has done so with compassionate care and the highest quality treatment in the field.”

“The pandemic has negatively impacted many industries and addiction treatment has not escaped its wrath. At the same time, we have seen deterioration in insurance reimbursement,” says Garate.

As of December 31, 2020, Beacon House will close its doors.

Beaches Closed. Moose Out Front Should Have Told Ya

Are we sure the Fresno crowd will stay off the sand?

With continuing heat in the Central Valley, people’s options for recreation severely hampered by coronavirus-induced restrictions, and daily crowds at the beaches despite
rules limiting their use, public officials decided the safest way to handle the next big holiday is to shut them down. For Independence Day, the City of Carmel completely
closed its beach, while some other Peninsula cities restricted their use to water-based activities, not allowing anyone to be on the sand.

Parklett Parking

So we can eat our $22 noodles out in the street with the seagulls.

“So far, we have identified two businesses that are in favor of the street closure out of 33 businesses in the two blocks,” Ammar said in a letter urging the council to not OK City Manager Ben Harvey’s plan and keep all of Lighthouse open to vehicles Besides being unpopular, Ammar said Harvey’s plan lacked transparency and would eliminate 48 parking spaces. The Monday farmer’s market shuts down Central Avenue, which means drivers trying to get through the area would have to be rerouted to Laurel or Pine avenues.

Party Poopers Tattle On Nextdoor Over Impromptu Gathering

Ninth Street Nannies.

Around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, at least a dozen people gathered in the middle of Ninth Street between Junipero and Spruce avenues to drink, converse with neighbors
and enjoy the weather. But quite a few people took to social media to criticize the participants

“These are not good citizens,” said one Pacific Grove resident who added a common expletive to emphasize the point. Another commenter called them “idiots who can’t social distance,” while someone else said they were “stupid” “Covidiots — that’s what they are,” a woman said. The unidentified revelers, who appeared to be in their 30s and 40s, later moved the party from the street to their front yards. Responding to  complaints, police arrived about an hour after the party started, people on social media said. Police spokeswoman Shayla Hoffman said by the time officers arrived, everyone was standing in their own driveways. Nobody was arrested, she said. Monterey County Undersheriff John Mineau told the press yesterday that “There are teeth in the county health officer’s order” to shelter in place. “It is a misdemeanor to violate” the order.
