$3,000,000 To “Improve Water Quality” At Lovers Point

Interesting. What is given up in order get bestowed with these tax dollars? No fireworks shot over the water?

Lovers Point Sewer Pipe

On Thursday, the state water board announced it had awarded the city a $3.3 million grant to fund part of a planned $4.8 million project aimed at improving a storm drain and sewer pipelines near the beach. The drain and pipelines are believed to be the source of poor water quality due to human bacteria contamination. The beach is regularly subject to public warnings and closure due to poor water quality.

City Takes A Step Back Toward Gull Poo Problem

Check the KSBW video – the news reporter is at the same place I was recently. Add that to the shocking turn from trying to shoo the gulls away to cutting off the attraction by covering the trash around town, something that lighthouseavenue.com has been preaching for years.

Was Moe heard describing the trash can covers as “the best thing ever to happen in P.G.”?

The city’s public works department is experimenting with a new type of trash can to see if it can perturb the influx of gulls.

“Without a doubt, it is working. The seagulls cannot penetrate it and go down and pick up the food,” said Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce president Moe Ammar.

The city is looking to retrofit all trash cans on the recreational trail with the new can style to get rid of gulls, but officials said residents also need to stop feeding the birds.

City officials said without an active food source, the gulls will hopefully go elsewhere.

The city is planning to power-wash the sidewalks the first two weeks of June. The runoff water will be collected and sent to the local pollution control agency.

Who Wants Layoffs And Sizzle?

Fruit-Cheese and Kurt “Lorem ipsum” That’s who

Frutchey said the city must continue to transform its business practices with private-sector service contracts, shared services with other agencies, and fewer full-time employees in the state Public Employees Retirement System.

On a related matter, the city’s economic development manager recommends that Pacific Grove follow the lead of such cities as Escondido and Hercules to put more sizzle in the downtown district economy.

Nevermind the humans, close the beach for sea lions.

At a March 5 P.G. City Council meeting, numerous volunteers who help protect the seals urged the city to install bigger fencing to protect them. But before they even spoke, city
manager Tom Frutchey told the council that the city “will go ahead, and even without coastal commission approval, erect a more substantial barrier.” The city installed the lattice fencing not long after the meeting.

Jacob Miller Gets Year In Prison

Son Of Sherrif.

Jacob Miller, of Pacific Grove, was sentenced Tuesday to consecutive terms of 365 days, 30 days and 30 days for a probation violation, two counts of possession of stolen property and methadone possession.

He was also sentenced to three years’ formal probation, related fines and fees, and 200 hours of community service.

Miller was arrested in January on drugs, weapons and burglary charges. He was initially accused of burglarizing the Asimolar Conference Grounds, but 28-year-old Wesley Langkamp, of Monterey, confessed to the crimes in early April.

The burglary counts and the remaining misdemeanors were dismissed Tuesday in court.

Dumb Criminals File – Raymond Gutosky

At least he did not call his lost cell phone in hopes of getting it back like Sean Conners

A Pacific Grove man stabbed by a homeowner who interrupted him during a burglary will be sentenced to 34 years and eight months in prison, prosecutors said Monday.

Raymond Gutosky, 57, pleaded guilty on Friday to burglary charges after having two previous burglary convictions in Los Angeles, officials said.

Around 9 a.m. on July 11, 2013, Gutosky entered a home after he watched the homeowner and his wife drive away.

The owner returned about 10 minutes later and found Gutosky stealing his wife’s jewelry. Armed with a knife, the owner ordered Gutosky to stay until police arrived.

But Gutosky fought back and was “pummeling” his victim, prosecutors said, until the owner stabbed Gutosky, severely wounding him.

Gutosky stumbled outside, got into a car and drove away, leaving behind his cell phone, which he likely lost during the struggle, officials said.

The council, at its Wednesday meeting, rejected an appeal filed against the Sea Breeze Lodge expansion after it had been approved on a divided Planning Commission vote in March.

Appellants Roxanne and Adiba Mahroom contended the proposed addition of six units, on top of three approved in 2002 but never built, should have been reviewed under the state Environmental Quality Act. They also argued the city wrongfully approved water for the project before it was considered by the Planning Commission.

City planners said the addition to the 30-unit Lighthouse Avenue motel was a minor project exempt from the Environmental Quality Act.

Pet Hoarder Discovered On Fountain Ave

The animals will get first rate care, what about the people living in the house?

A small historic home in Pacific Grove was declared uninhabitable Wednesday after authorities found it crammed with dogs and cats in “shocking” conditions, the SPCA for Monterey County said.

The house was cluttered with piles of clothing, trash and garage, along with feces and urine, the SPCA said.

There were 18 dogs, including four small puppies, locked in three small back rooms. The stench of ammonia from urine was so strong that fire officials recommended that animal rescuers use protective gear.

Two cats were also taken from the home in the 400 block of Fountain Avenue.

Welcome To Pacific Grove 2014 Tourist Season. Please Wash Your Hands Before Leaving

What happened to the gull poop cleanup program, with all kinds of hoopla about pressure washing and making the downtown tidy?

Monterey Hear-Old, August 2, 2013:
The city recently got state approval for a dry-season “best management practices” plan for sidewalk and curb washing of bird droppings in certain downtown areas, said Hardgrave. This is to comply with local and state regulations to keep contaminants out of Monterey Bay. Those lengthy guidelines are available from the city.

Cigarettes Can Be Hazardous To Your Freedom

Butts In Flower PotHow soon before the butts left on the street will be traced back to the careless fools that drop them?

The smoke break by the burglar came back to haunt a Pacific Grove man this week. He was convicted in Monterey County Superior Court of first-degree burglary and now faces a possible seven-year prison sentence.

“Smoking — it’s kind of bad for your health,” said Deputy District Attorney Sam Nong on Thursday.

Nong prosecuted Daniel Edward Jeske, 33, of Pacific Grove from the March 20, 2012, break-in.

He said police forwarded the cigarette butt to the state DNA database — which includes about 1 million samples collected from felons and persons arrested on a felony charge.
