Still Sustaining The Gulls – Open Dumpsters In Pacific Grove

Long running story here on the blog, the Dumpsters Of Commerce, where Pacific Grove businesses show their lack of regard for the health and safety of the town. Some have improved, notably Mando’s and Fandango. Others still don’t give a darn and continue to violate health codes.

Tidepool Police Shocked! Shocked! That Signs Are Posted To Warn About Seal Birth Area

Every spring the seals arrive at Hopkins to have babies and signs get posted informing people to stay away. Looks like Jim Willoughby has awoke from his winter hibernation and is suddenly outraged that someone would post the signs on the railing along the rec trail.

Anyone walking along the trail early this month could not have missed the proliferation of 11 obtrusive and intimidating signs adjacent to the Hopkins Marine Station fence. Some were unusually large red inflammatory signs with a foreboding warning against entry to the coastline beyond that point.

Let’s go back to 2012 when the city erected a green lath fence in this same area, blocking the viewshed and access to the beach. For some unknown reason, the city added a white plastic fence next to the green lath fence, creating an eyesore. Since then, the green lath fence has been removed and replaced with a permanent wooden rail fence, which is now posted with warning signs.

Well, what can we expect? The rec trail is a place where many more signs can be found, some that are downright ugly or tacky. Where is the outrage Willoughby?

Pavels, Grove Market, PG Florist all are losing customers and Moe Ammar says “This is the best thing that’s happened since I’ve been here, period!”.

The main intersection of downtown Pacific Grove, Forest and Lighthouse, is blocked because of a safety and beautification project and will be closed until April 8, causing significant business losses for even very popular stores near the intersection as shoppers avoid the area because they’re worried they won’t be able to get through or find a place to park.

How low can one go?

A neighbor told police she saw a woman enter the church at 148 8th St. at 3:40 p.m. and walk out with miscellaneous items, police said. The woman got into a car with a man at the wheel, and they drove down Lighthouse Avenue toward Monterey.

The car was stopped by Monterey police near Del Monte and Figueroa avenues, police said. Food taken from the church were found in the car, police said.

Arrested were Jessica Galloway, 22, on suspicion of burglary and David Ballard, 24, charged with violating a restraining order to stay away from Galloway, police said.
