Auction Company Settles

And I was just about to see if I can pick up some painting in Pebble Beach at a good price.

A company that held several estate auctions in Pebble Beach and Pacific Grove over the last four years has been ordered to pay $140,000 for alleged auction fraud.

In May, the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office filed a civil complaint against American Wholesale Jewelry, Inc., and president Alon Varsha, doing business as Kingston Auctions, for deceptive marketing claims.

P.G. Cops Responding To Car Ripoffs

If you lock the doors, one burglar may move on. Or the may put a rock through the window to steal an iPod.

In an effort to catch burglars in the act, Pacific Grove police officers, using unmarked cars, recently staked out areas in the city where vehicle burglaries and thefts have occurred.

“We have been able to do some surveillance programs in direct response,” Miller said.

One of the stings netted the arrest of a Pacific Grove man who was going car to car and checking door handles, trying to find an unlocked vehicle, Miller said.

Carmel Does Not Want To Be Made Fun Of Over Pet Chickens

Pro Chicken Mack

This coming from the town that bans ice cream cones.

At the Oct. 5 meeting, Yateman, a.k.a. “the chicken lady,” reiterated her desire to keep hens because they lay nutritious eggs, are quiet, produce fertilizer, eat bugs “and even in some cases, mice,” make good pets “and are very educational for children,” while having no negative consequences.

“I had two hens many years ago, with absolutely no problems,” she said, adding that The Pine Cone’s weekly police log often contains calls about barking and biting dogs, but “never anything about hens.”

So sympathetic was the audience to her plea, no one made the obvious counter-argument: There have been no complaints about hens because the town hardly has any, while dogs are everywhere.

Carmel Chamber of Commerce CEO Monta Potter said her organization works hard to market Carmel as a sophisticated destination for visitors, and while she did not take a particular position for or against chickens, she commented, “I would hope that we are not made fun of. I think it’s important that we continue to promote ourselves as a sophisticated city.”

P.G. Woman Arrested, Accomplice In Elder Abuse, Theft

She and her partner bought cell phones, video games and a used VW with money allegedly stolen from grandmother.

Theodore Lopez and Pacific Grove resident Amanda Spears, both 22, were arrested Sunday on charges of elder abuse, identity theft, burglary, grand theft and conspiracy, and taken to Monterey County Jail.

After Rodriguez identified the suspects, deputies arrested Lopez in Marina and Spears in Pacific Grove, and booked them in to Monterey County Jail. While Monterey County Superior Court records indicate this is the first local case against Lopez, Spears appears in multiple files, including numerous traffic violations, two misdemeanor cases filed in June and September of 2009, and a lawsuit she filed Sept. 7 of this year.

Arron Corn Party Host Seeks Plea Bargain

Christopher “CJ” Veloz is charged with hosting a party at his home on Sydia Drive Feb. 21 where alcohol was consumed by minors.

Pacific Grove attorney Dave Laredo confirmed he and Veloz’s attorney, Susan Chapman, met in a Salinas courtroom Thursday to discuss a deal that could result in Veloz’s plead-
ing no contest, akin to a guilty plea.

Arrests Made In Safeway Oxycontin Robbery

Safeway Prescriptions

Informants led Pacific Grove police to the 19-year-old Seaside man they suspect of robbing the pharmacy at Safeway and fleeing with 800 Oxycontin pills two weeks ago, and to another male they believe was involved in the crime. Cmdr. John Nyunt reported officers took Johnny Rodriguez into custody after serving a search warrant on his home last Thursday morning, and they had 20-year-old Seaside resident Cameron Ferguson arrested on the tarmac at San Jose Airport later that day.

Appalled Parents Call Cops On Skinny Dippers

At 9 pm on Carmel Beach. Well, it was a full moon in more ways than one.Moons

Carmel Police Sgt. Mel Mukai said a 29-year-old Carmel man and two 32-year-olds from Pacific Grove shucked their clothes and entered the water near Scenic and 10th. The men were naked, and the woman was topless.

Shortly after 9 p.m. Aug. 24, “as they were leaving the water, there was a large family gathering, and one of the parents was obviously appalled and decided to call us,” Mukai said.

Sad to read the unexpected ending of a party. Speaking of – the whole long article has no mention of Seaside Police Commander Chris Veloz calling his son after he got word of the accident.

Pinkas said when he approached Corn, who was bleeding and drifting in and out of consciousness, he was “unresponsive.”

“I detected that he had alcohol coming from his breath and person … but I didn’t obtain a statement from him,” according to the officer.

Two other passengers, Matt Wheeler and Ahmad Mahmoud, were also injured in the crash. Hill was paralyzed.

Monterey police officer Mark Shell — who interviewed Miller the day after the accident — said Miller told him that before the crash, he was at the home of a classmate, CJ Veloz, on Syida Drive in Pacific Grove where there was a small party.

Lawrence Paul Elliott, 47, and his girlfriend Theresa Barbaro were at the party at the Pebble Beach Lodge when an argument broke out, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.

“They got into an argument and some threats were made,” Cmdr. Tracy Brown told The Pine Cone. “She started walking away from him and he grabbed a vase that was on a nearby table and threw it at her, and it hit her in the elbow.”

It’s Exotic Car Week, Push The M.G. Out To The Street

and put a “For Sale” sign on it. A fool and his money . . .

Carfax Report

In a July 6 lawsuit, Bellevue, Wash., resident Todd Lozier claims RM Auctions and Monterey Auction Co. misrepresented the 1968 Shelby GT500 KR fastback when it was placed up for auction at the Monterey Conference Center Aug. 14, 2009.

Lozier contends the car is worth between $30,000 and $50,000 less than he paid for it. The engine block, transmission and other parts were not properly date-code stamped and rather bear dates “that prove they are not original and do not belong on this vehicle,” Lozier’s lawsuit says.

If this fool was willing to part with $100,000 on an old car, why didn’t he get a CarFax or something. Pay a mechanic to look at it. Heck get an uncle that knows more about cars than the car crazy rich guy does. I side with the auction house on this one.
