PGPD: Bring Your Drugs To Us

Bummer duude, it’s not a drug buy back program.

“The goal of the program is to allow citizens to deliver all of their unused, unwanted or expired medications to law enforcement officials who can in turn dispose of these controlled substances in a safe, secure and non-hazardous manner, potentially saving lives and protecting the ecosystem,” according to PGPD Cmdr. John Miller.

The program is anonymous, and medications may be dropped off in their original containers or deposited directly in the disposal bin. Liquid products should remain sealed.

Grove Market owner Charlie Higuera said he lost $80,000 during the course of the construction work because customers went to other local markets to buy groceries.

“That’s big time,” Higuera said.

And, he said, the Grove Market customers he’s spoken to are underwhelmed with the new intersection.

“Everybody I’ve talked to so far, they say ‘I can’t believe it, is that what they did?’” Higuera said.

. . the grand opening ceremony on April 10 will feature Pacific Grove Mayor Bill Kampe driving a car through the intersection as well as speakers, music and light refreshments, according to the city.

Can’t Hold It?

Two reports from the Pine Cone police blotter citing the Pagrovians’ lack of control over bodily functions.

Meanwhile Over In Scotland

3/16
Pacific Grove: Dispatched to a report of a suspicious male to the rear of a business. Owner of the business advised she was going to her storage unit and saw a male near the garbage dumpster. She asked him why he was there and told him to leave. He left in an unknown direction. She went to see what he was doing and discovered excrement on the ground. Conducted an area check of the male and could not locate him. She requested close patrol to the rear of her business due to the fact that there have been several incidents in the past with people to the rear of the businesses. No further information.

Downtown Struggles While It’s Crossroads Undergo “Beautification”

Pavels, Grove Market, PG Florist all are losing customers and Moe Ammar says “This is the best thing that’s happened since I’ve been here, period!”.

The main intersection of downtown Pacific Grove, Forest and Lighthouse, is blocked because of a safety and beautification project and will be closed until April 8, causing significant business losses for even very popular stores near the intersection as shoppers avoid the area because they’re worried they won’t be able to get through or find a place to park.

Sidewalk Reconstruction Road Closed

My question is how will this bit of concrete mix with the five different sidewalk styles that exist at the intersection?

You have exposed aggregate

There’s a diamond pattern (my personal favorite)

A five squares from store to curb pattern

Another side has three squares from store to curb.

And a real brick veneer

Agha’s Desal Project Bought Out?

Looks like normal Nadir business. Agha says it will cost $129,000,000 and a consultant says it will cost $190,000,000. Lew says he owns it, Nadir says he doesn’t. Lew says he has an agreement with Cal Am, Cal Am says they don’t.

Jaws dropped at the Pacific Grove City Council meeting this week when a man introduced himself and said he was taking over Nader Agha’s “People’s Desal” project.

At Wednesday night’s meeting, Donald Lew, managing partner for the Concord-based JDL Development private equity firm, made the surprising announcement Agha is no longer involved in the desal project, and that the project has been renamed.

Do check out the article in the Pine Cone. Lovely quotes like this:

According to JDL’s website, the family-owned private equity firm has a “focus on private equity investments in innovative companies with disruptive technologies within the health care, natural and renewable resources and green technology markets.”

Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit By Driver On Pine Ave

Pine Cone reports it was a 55 year old woman driving.

Don Murphy said the tragic crash happened in front of his home. He didn’t hear the collision but said he saw the aftermath when he opened his door to determine why emergency lights were flashing outside.

“The victim, a woman, was lying motionless, face down, in the street,” he recounted. “The driver of the car — an SUV? — that hit her was quite upset while being interviewed by police.”

Love Them Short Term Rental People

Part time dweller meets short term dwellers on a bad note.

Pacific Grove: Female reported she is the owner of an Ocean View Boulevard condo which she inhabits part time. Some of the other units are being rented as short-term rentals. She stated over the past six days, there have been three separate incidents  involving short-term rental guests.

She stated on Aug. 16, she found a young boy standing in her living room, an unknown man was pounding on her door during the nighttime hours on Aug. 19, and another unknown man entered her dwelling on Aug. 21 by mistake, thinking it was his rental unit.

She does not feel safe in her residence due to the quantity of people coming and going from the property as a result of the rental status. She requested matters be documented for information only, as she will also be notifying the city council.

Mvsevm Fetus Tied To Doc Ricketts?

Relying on a curator to analyze handwriting. The fetus remains in custody, being held without bail.

…for the past several months, museum collections curator Paul Vandecarr has been comparing Ricketts’ handwriting examples to the writing on the label of the jar to establish a possible connection.

What the unscientific research has so far turned up is fascinating.

“Most of the handwriting did not match anything he came up with,” according to Pacific Grove city manager Tom Frutchey. “But one letter [from Ricketts] did match.” While the match offers some hope to those who would like to make the connection between the fetus and Ricketts, who had specimens of all sorts at his Cannery Row laboratory, it also deepens the mystery.

Tax $$ Paying For Hysteric Society Studies

What happens when your home becomes deemed as “historic”? Your property rights may be in danger for one thing.

According to a press release sent out July 25 by the state agency, the City of Monterey will receive $22,500 to pay for “a historic context statement and reconnaissance historic survey for the New Monterey Residential Neighborhood and the New Monterey Business District.”

The grant will fund 60 percent of the project. To be eligible for the assistance, the City of Monterey is required to pay for the remaining 40 percent of the work — which totals $16,600 — according to Lucinda Woodward, a spokeswoman for the Office of Historic Preservation, which is a division of California State Parks.
