Pair Busted For Fake Prescription Attempt

Arkwright Court residents Michael Dodd, 27, and 25-year-old Patricia Brown.

“The pharmacist was smart and called Doctors on Duty to check, and learned no prescription had been issued by the office,” he said. “They learned it was a fake prescription.”

Instead of returning Dodd’s phone call, the pharmacist alerted Pacific Grove police and then waited for him to come attempt to pick up the narcotic painkillers. When the
Arkwright Court resident appeared at the store around 4 p.m., pharmacy staff called the police.

Smart Meters, Like ‘Em Or Not It’s Gonna Happen

Wonder if they work during the frequent power outages?

The Mayor and Dan Miller wanted an ordinance drawn up, but the rest of the council disagreed. Remember who is on PG&E’s side . . .

City Hall was filled with people who came, many from out of town, to speak against the meters on grounds that they emit harmful radiation and violate privacy by collecting data that won’t be secure and can be used to monitor people’s daily lives.

Software engineer Tim Wilson of Monterey said the meters “seem to have privacy and control issues” along with wireless radiation issues, which critics contend can cause genetic damage or increase cancer rates.

“It’s a big money maker for them,” said Bob Franco of Pacific Grove. “PG&E can find out everything we do electronically” and garner information about individuals’ buying habits, the kind of appliances they own, and when they come and go, he said.

P.G. High Student Threatens Assistant Principal

Student is from Pebble Beach.

How many times was the opportunity to manage the bad kid out of the school system overlooked?

PGhs 1103

The boy gave Martinez permission to search his backpack and she found nothing unusual, she said. But when the student began acting nervously, she asked Howell to search him. In his right front pocket, Howell found a 3½-inch kitchen knife inside a homemade cardboard sheath.

Martinez called police. The boy said he usually kept the weapon in his backpack but was late that morning and put it in his pants. Asked why he carried it, the student took on a sarcastic tone, Martinez said.

“I like to cut things,” he said. “I cut many things.”

…..

The next day, Martinez said, she attended training at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula. While walking through the hospital, she saw John Doe lying on a bed.

Wharf Association Wants To Ban Chowder Samples

Soon the wharf will be a bad as the ‘Row. Keep the chowder samples. Keep the wharf funky.

Wharf Signs

“It cheapens the experience down here to be handed chowder at every place in the wharf they walk at,” says Board Member Kevin Phillips. “We think it’s better off without it.”

Phillips, who also owns Abalonetti’s, said it’s been a problem for years. Now, he thinks it’s out of hand.

“This whole barking and oral advertising that goes along with it,” says Phillips. “A lot of people are uncomfortable with it.”

But other businesses like the Old Fisherman’s Grotto don’t agree.

“It’s a great thing,” says Owner Chris Shake. “Why would you want to take away something that is very positive for the wharf?”

Terrorists At The Beach?

Was only a greens keeper out to get the gophers…

Karl Spackler

At around 8:30 a.m., a beachcomber reported spotting a suspicious device that looked like two pipe bombs taped together at the base of a 40-foot cliff near the 9th hole at Pebble Beach, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Monterey County sheriff’s bomb squad went to the scene, examined the device, and rendered it safe.

Coastal Commission Defeats Dewey

Battle began when the meters around the fish jail went up. Meters or signs not both..

Parking Dewey

Under the plan, the parking spaces would be limited to residents or to two-hour stays during the daytime. Burgess said that would protect residents, provide visitor parking and deter all-day parking by employees from the aquarium or other nearby businesses.

In the meantime, the city will have to comply with its current permit and put bags over residents-only parking signs.

“We talked to the neighbors last week, and they understand the need,” Burgess said. “We will be bagging those signs.”

Cops Called To Council Meeting

Resistance if futile, your privacy will be invaded.

Pacific Grove Police were called out to Wednesday’s city council meeting, expecting a riot about SmartMeters. The police presence caught many people off guard in the quiet town.

“I was surprised,” says Jerry Norton. “It seems to represent a different kind of attitude.”

Norton lives in Pacific Grove. He’s talking about the two armed police officers. One guarded the front door, the other was inside the packed council meeting.

Play Ball On Saturdays At P.G. Muni Park

NIMBYs that move in next to a ball park want peaceful use of the property. Make the kids and families go elsewhere and all you are left with is the tourists.

Baseball and softball coaches, players and parents argued successfully for the changes, saying children needed a facility for play and such fields are in short supply.

Saturday games were curtailed by the city after complaints about late-night adult games, alcohol use, litter, lights and noise, but Mothershead said city permit requirements could control the problem.

Among neighbors opposed to Saturday use was Margo Gurs, who said that “in the absence of strict rules, a neighborhood can be ruined.” She said residents have a right to peaceful use of their property.

Bad Broccoli Again

Skip the salad, just bring me the steak please.

Bad Broccoli

A Northern California company has voluntarily recalled products sold at supermarkets across the West because they could contain contaminated broccoli. Tracy-based Taylor Farms Pacific announced the recall this week after a random test by agricultural officials came up positive for the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
