Meet The Candidates For Mayor – Dionne Ybarra (text version)

Dionne Ybarra

I had a situation here in the Philippines.

There are a lot of Israeli tourists where I’m at, and it was brought to my attention.
And then I started noticing, as I’ve been, like, kind of spreading my wings and getting out in the community a little more, that there are a lot of Israelis.

And so when I’ve been in these public spaces, I am aware that there are Israelis around me because they’re speaking Hebrew. And I have to work on my, like, non judgment about.

Because they’re Israelis doesn’t mean what you think it means Dionne. You’re in this public space. It doesn’t mean what you think it means. Let it go. Move on. Enjoy the moment.

And it’s been a test of…
And I can see how people are very racist because I want to go there. And so I’ve been bringing my centering myself back.
Be here now. This space is not about just you and move on.
But I happened to be in a space that was mine. Mine. Right.
It was a space that I had control over, and it was a space that I have become protective around because of the children that I and the community that I’m a part of and that I feel responsible for.

So enter four Israelis into the space that I protect, that I have come to protect over the last month. I’m aware that they’re Israelis again because of their umm the language.
And my heart starts pumping.
Pumping because I have to go back to Dion, don’t make assumptions. Why don’t you ask, where are you from to confirm?

Because people speak languages all over the world.
So I ask, where are you from? Israel.
Okay. And then my heart is pumping even more.
And so then I have to ask, and it wasn’t easy, let me tell you.
One of the most difficult things I’ve had to ask is, because, again, I am overseeing children, many of them.

And I ask, are you. I just have to ask, are you Zionists?
And it’s like. Like, what is that? What is that? And suddenly, English becomes very difficult at this point for these people.
And I don’t understand. What are you saying? What are you saying?

And they don’t understand. I said, okay, you don’t  understand what I’m saying. You’re from Israel, but you don’t understand. No.
I say, okay. And I walk away.
And in perfect English, one of the guys says, well, what does that mean to you? And I turn around and I say, I’m asking you if you are for or against the genocide of the  Palestinians.

And he stands up, young man, and confronts me and starts asking, well, what do you know about it?
And I said, I’m asking you if you are for the genocide of the Palestinians. That’s all I need to know.
I’m an Israeli soldier. I’ve already been to Gaza.
And I said, okay. So then it sounds like you are for the genocide of Palestinians.
Well, what are you asking? Questioning question. I said, okay, I know enough. And so I’m gonna ask you or I’m gonna tell you, I didn’t ask. I said, I’m gonna tell you. It’s time for you to go. And my heart is humping.

And he starts wanting to go in about da da da.
The girl comes. October 7. Do you want to call that?
What do you think that is? Is that not genocide? October 7.
And I said, I’m not gonna argue with any of you.
I’m gonna tell you it’s time for you to go.
Then they bring in the others. They start hammering in on me. And I said, this is not an argument I am not going to change your mind.
You are not going to change mind. It’s time for you to go.
And again they’re telling me how ignorant I am. Then they begin to tell me how evil I am.

Dionne Ybarra 1

And then I’ve got a basketball that they want to use because they were playing this. It was my basketball.
And he says, well, can I throw one more shot?
I said, no, you cannot. You wouldn’t share this basketball with Palestinian, right?
And he said, no. And he turns around and says, I’ve already killed Palestinians, and I’m gonna go back and kill more.
Under his breath. That’s what he says.

And the girl is yelling, raising her voice at me.
She’s not yelling. She’s raising her voice at me. October 7. October 7. And I just said, time for you to go. Time for you to go.
And they’re telling me I’m evil. They’re telling the children behind me, she’s evil. Don’t listen to her. And as they get on their motorbikes, one of them says, I’m going back to killmore Arabs, more women and more children.

That’s what we’re working with.
And I just said, go.

Tipsy Putt Handicap? $600,000

The mini golf and bar concept cost 1.2 million dollars to build.

The new sports-bar-meets-indoor-miniature-golf-course concept opened in February in the space that was formerly Cannery Row Brewing Company. In the year leading up to the much-anticipated opening, Deacon had a construction contract for $1,278,914 – Squid’s seen the contract language in black and white, because it’s attached to the company’s court case.

On July 30, Deacon sued Tipsy Putt, alleging the bar has failed to pay nearly half of the contract amount, $599,561.25 (plus interest)

Rec trail still a dangerous place to be at night.

The Monterey Police Department announced that David Thomas, 65, was booked into jail with a bail set at $1 million.

The Monterey Police responded last week to a report of a man being attacked and severely injured near Reeside Avenue and the Recreation Trail. The person reporting the incident was a passerby who the victim had flagged down for help police said. The victim said a man with a crowbar or similar weapon attacked him.

Thomas was also previously arrested in November for felony assault with a deadly weapon after he struck a person who was experiencing homelessness with an expandable metal baton. The victim in that incident was not seriously injured. A witness reported the November incident and said Thomas claimed the victim was drinking alcohol in public. Thomas said he was acting in self-defense after the victim called him a racial slur. Ultimately, he pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor and was sentenced to 40 days in jail and a year of probation.

Weak Peake, Mayor’s Seat He Does Not Seek

Vote for Miller.

WeakPeake

Pacific Grove Mayor Bill Peake seemed determined to run for a fourth term—he took out candidate filing papers on the first day of the nomination period, July 15, according to the P.G. City Clerk’s office—but about a week later he returned those papers, withdrawing from the race.

Two days later, on July 24, former P.G. councilmember Dan Miller took out papers to run for mayor as well. He ran in 2016 for mayor after serving several years on council but lost to Bill Kampe, but since then has been a town firebrand, voicing his disagreements at city meetings and through the now-defunct P.G Press newspaper.

Potato-About Approved By Clueless Councilmembers

The vote was 4-3, with Debby Beck, Luke Coletti, and Lori McDonell dissenting.
Blondie Roundabout

The project met mixed comments from the council who called for more safety information and details about how much the project would cost. Council members Debby Beck, Luke Coletti and Lori McDonnell dissented.

The council was asked to choose between a four-way stop with stop signs, or a roundabout. The council was also shown a video rendering of what the roundabout would look like.

Public comment was mostly against the roundabout option, with residents calling it too expensive and unnecessary.

Beck agreed with public comments that the video was not a good representation of Pacific Grove and did not feature children crossing the street, or the field on Sunset.

Look at that. It’s not even a roundabout. Who paid for this overpriced boondoggle?

Not Just Speed, Tina Nieto Parks In Handicap Spot

Even IF Nieto was transporting disabled parent that WOULD have disabled parking permits, why are county resources being used to give rides to employees’ family?

Monterey County Sheriff seen parked in a handicap spot

A photo obtained by KION shows the county work car that Monterey County Sherriff Tina Nieto drives parked in a handicap zone. This photo was taken on July 14, 2024 on Lincoln Avenue.

The photo was taken just days after KION reported that Sheriff Nieto was pulled over at least three times for speeds over 90 mph by the CHP in King City.

We have reached out to the Sheriff for comment, and a spokesperson for the Sheriff told KION that Nieto has a handicap placard because she drives her parents around sometimes.

Sheriff Nieto’s office stated that her parents were in the car that day and then rode in the golf cart with her during the parade. Witnesses tell KION that they did not see the Sheriff’s parents in the car.

Plop And Miss. Who Thought This Was Good For P.G?

A used record store that serves alcohol. Pricey. Perhaps sell a few bibles, too?

Owner is a come-here Micheala Kuenster, the designer that was a part of Tina Rau’s (losing) 2022 campaign for P.G. City Council. Tina Rau owns the building that Pop And Hiss occupies. Same Tina Rau that hates Christians.Tina hates religious believers

Yelp Reviews

In my opinion the drinks are a bit overpriced for what you’re getting and the records themselves (like all records) are absurdly overpriced.

I ordered a vodka tonic which wasn’t half bad but came in the tiniest plastic cup you can imagine, and my wife got a local beer (Alvarado Mai Tai I think?). As mentioned earlier, it was overpriced but nothing crazy. After tip, the total came out to $24 for 2 drinks.

Unfortunately, when I attended the soft opening, the owner was too drunk to speak. By the end of the event, I got extremely sick. It is highly likely that someone slipped something into my drink

Soft opening was unorganized and unsafe. I hope the business improves.
