P.G.’s Ex Police Chief Gets Caught Up In Politics

Negative ads by Sheriff Kanalakis make him cry.

Miller for sheriffI don’t know, after seeing both tubbies Kanalakis and Garcia, I was thinking that Miller was the only candidate that was physicaly capable of actually being a cop.

Kanalakis spokesman Tom Kise said the problem was insufficient volume in the ad’s required “Paid for by …” statement, but said it was fixed within hours.

Miller issued a scathing statement Thursday, decrying the ad as “fraudulent” and “deceptive” and said, “Kanalakis went so far as to disguise attribution of the ads … We now have more evidence of his ham-fisted and vicious nature.”

The Seven Ups

Politics

Here’s the list of hopefuls that applied to replace quitter Deborah “Bankrupt” Lindsay, and some comments from their statements.

Richard Ahart – Uses the word “sustainable”. Thinks that allowing more fast food franchises can help bring revenue and then touts several fast food corporations as clients. Says he “has earned the confidence of voters during the last election”. He was dead last, getting fewer votes than David Dilworth, LOL.

Laura Dadiw – “Dadiw Associates . . Headquartered in Pacific Grove” Consultant that works from home. Prioritizes “health and welfare of Pacific Grove youth”. Sounding good until I notice she puts down 93953 as her ZIP Code. That’s Pebble Beach, dummy.

Eric Chad Fonferek – wants to “stimulate business growth” and “raise Pacific Grove’s tourism profile. Thinks that Holman building is a city asset. I thought Nadir owned it.

William Fredrickson – Mechanical Engineer. Wants to work with Moe to bring more tourists to P.G. Might know how to fix the sewers that fill up from said tourists.

Khalil Ibrahim – Arabic teacher. Long list of experiences, none that have to do with being on city council. Offers up nothing to give to the city.

Daniel Miller – 54 year resident. Came in 4th place in last election that put Bankrupt Deb in office at 3rd place.

Rudy Fischer – another misguided person that thinks Moe is “doing a lot to bring new business” and repairing sidewalks will make us walk instead of drive.

All from those nice people at AT&T.

Anyone have the luck of getting one of these big honking structures in their front yard, sidewalk or have the landscaping ripped out to make room for one?

A nationwide service outage continues to impact customers of AT&T’s VoIP-based U-Verse Voice service — users of its fiber-to-the-home TV and broadband network for phone service as well. Now home-based VoIP phone users are waiting in Internet chat queues numbering hundreds of users long seeking solutions, and at least a few customers are reporting they’re waiting on hold from their (working) Verizon Wireless phones.

Though there has been no official explanation, customers who have gotten through to support personnel have been advised that the cause is some sort of server outage. That diagnosis would appear to be contradicted by evidence that service has been restored to some areas while still down in others; and also that the outage does not appear to affect TV or broadband service.

Watsonville Crime Takes A Turn For The Funny

Ever since a writer from Watsonville commented on getting stopped by our police I’ve paid more attention to that town that I can’t for the life of me credit with anything but gang crimes. This is one that has nothing to do with gangs, and comes from good old W’ville

Watsonville resident Laurence Roscoe Gregory, 65, was fighting with the clerk because he believed his tickets were winners, when in fact they were not, according to Sgt. Saul Gonzalez. The officer talked with Gregory outside the store, located on the 100 block of East Lake Avenue, around 8 a.m. and explained that Gregory hadn’t won.

Then the officer asked Gregory, who was wearing “bulky” clothing, if he had any weapons on him and Gregory revealed the 3- to 4-foot-long sword under his coat. He told the officer the sword was part of his attire, Gonzalez said.

Pacific Grove Kayaker Gets Rescued By Coast Guard

Saw fish gets revenge?

A 30-year-old Pacific Grove man suffering from hypothermia was rescued Tuesday after his fishing kayak began taking on water in the middle of Monterey Bay, officials said.

The unidentified man called 911 about 6:20 p.m. to report a leaky hull and that he had rolled three times, officials said. The man was unable to describe where he was, but after 20 minutes realized he could determine his location by reading coordinates from his iPhone’s GPS system.

Kris Olinger Murder Case Finally Going To Trial

Kristopher Olinger was murdered in 1997 at the turnout by the foghorn.

Jacobo Ruelas, who was 18 when Olinger was stabbed to death and dumped on the Pacific Grove Recreation Trail, faces a potential death penalty if convicted.

Despite years of prodding by Olinger’s mother, Shell Phillips, there were no arrests until 2006, when Pacific Grove police got a “hit” between the state’s new palm print database and a print lifted from the car.

Better Than A Distressed Seagull Alarm, It’s Hawks Hunting Prey

Until two months ago, thousands of shrieking seagulls would converge on the Marina landfill every day, distracting workers, pecking through trash and pooping everywhere.

The coastal birds have long flocked to the dump to feast on a smorgasbord of landfill leftovers, such as fast food, chicken bones and rotting fruit.

But that’s all changed. There are new birds in town, and they’re shaking things up.

“I don’t know where the seagulls are,” Monterey Regional Waste Management District general manager William Merry told The Pine Cone. “But they are not here.”

Since March, the MRWMD has contracted with a Turlock company to release falcons and other birds of prey to drive all but a few of the seagulls away.
