Two Monterey police officers were injured early Thursday when an alleged drunken driver collided head-on with their patrol car near downtown.

Cory Overton, 21, of Marina, was arrested and charged with two felonies, including causing injury while driving impaired and for driving under the influence.

The company’s 80,000-square-foot production site at the industrial park south of Salinas is still nearly empty and largely inactive, though the Green Vehicle Web site lists the address as its headquarters. Instead, the firm’s employees are working out of a temporary facility in Gilroy. Meanwhile, the state funding deal is still being processed, and it could be three more months before it comes through.

There have been hints of turmoil within the firm and complaints that the city’s contribution thus far has not directly resulted in any local jobs.

JPatrickBedell wrote the Sabow case was “a step toward establishing the truth of events such as the September 11 demolitions.”

That same posting railed against the government’s enforcement of marijuana laws and included links to the author’s 2006 court case in Orange County, for cultivating marijuana and resisting a police officer. Court records available online show the date of birth on the case mentioned by JPatrickBedell matches that of the John Patrick Bedell suspected in the shooting.

After watching the spats between the other two candidates, the choice has to be obvious. I see the others on the TV news and must comment that neither one looks in shape to be a peace officer.

The Monterey County Prosecutors’ Association endorsed candidate Scott Miller for sheriff Monday, after a “near unanimous” vote by its members.

Although he officially left the job as a retiree, he later said he was unfairly fired and ended up suing the city even as he successfully campaigned for City Council. An hour before being sworn in, he formally accepted a $150,000 settlement of the wrongful termination claim he filed against the city. Miller was the top vote-getter in that race for seats on the council.

Matheson said Miller is the only sheriff’s candidate who speaks Spanish, and would bring a “great intellect” to the office.

The Bay Area’s independent electric car dealerships are in perilous shape, even as electric cars are being hailed as the next big thing by major auto manufacturers. Factors including a hurting economy, lower gas prices and, most notably, the cars’ own limitations.

Neither the Toronto-made Zenn or Santa Rosa-based Zap, the two electric cars most commonly sold in the Bay Area, go very far without a charge. The Zenn, which sells for around $15,000, can’t go more than 25 mph; the Zap, which costs around $10,000, 35 mph.

911 Is A Joke

Tracy residents will now have to pay every time they call 9-1-1 for a medical emergency.

But there are a couple of options. Residents can pay a $48 voluntary fee for the year which allows them to call 9-1-1 as many times as necessary.

Or, there’s the option of not signing up for the annual fee. Instead, they will be charged $300 if they make a call for help.
