A $45,000 study on the feasibility of reactivating California American Water’s empty reservoir in Pacific Grove as a catch basin for storm water runoff and a source of irrigation water for the city’s golf course and parks will be presented Wednesday to the Pacific Grove City Council.

The city, he said, led him to believe he would receive parking variances and water allocations in return for his restoration of the historic property and his “green” building practices with the new additions.

He said the council cut Smith’s monthly parking fee payment in half, from $948 to $474 a month. He said Smith owes the city $12,326 in parking fees and has not been paying the monthly amount. No payments have been received in a year, Rerig said, and no penalties or interest charges are being levied by the city.

Canterbury cannot provide services to the homes it owns adjacent to the facility, but others on the block can hire gardeners, housekeepers, pizza delivery etc. What’s the difference?

I see CW providing jobs. Local jobs. And the NIMBYs on Spazier don’t approve.

Canterbury Woods owned a house at 612 Spazier for more than 30 years, according to its executive director, Norma Brambilla, and the resident did not receive services from the senior citizen complex.

After the occupant retired, Brambilla said, she was assured verbally by city officials that using the property for life-care senior housing was acceptable to the city and would not violate Canterbury Woods’ use permit or the city zoning ordinance, since the property was zoned for single-family residential use.

The trees can stay but the school board needs to be reduced by a seat or two.

Four recently planted apple trees at Robert Down Elementary School — which parents planted two weeks ago during a school cleanup day without prior approval — will be allowed to stay, the Pacific Grove Unified School District board decided.

The day after the semi-dwarf trees were planted, a district official ordered them removed because their placement hadn’t received a prior OK from administrators or the school board.

Owner of the dilapidated old red house by the post office once said the same thing. Wish I could drill my own well and not pay Cal Am. What about the sewer system, has that been addressed?

On Wednesday, he described the existing store building as “an old building at the end of its economic life.”

The structure Agha is proposing, they said, would provide 250 to 420 rooms, a restaurant and conference center, a basement parking garage, and a multi-story parking garage in the lot behind the Lighthouse Cinema movie theater on Lighthouse Avenue.

He is proposing to drill a well on the site and install a desalination system to provide water for the hotel and low-cost housing for employees.

Wednesday, the Pacific Grove City Council approved a request by Police Chief Darius Engels to “borrow” a motorcycle officer from the Carmel Police Department to chase speeders.

His department has 18 of an authorized 22 officers, and he would be able to pay for the loan of a motorcycle officer within the department’s approved budget.

Issuing traffic tickets “doesn’t generate a lot of revenue,” Engels said, but that’s not the point.

Ammar said the restaurants in Pacific Grove that are doing the best right now are moderately priced, family places such Holly’s Lighthouse Cafe or Vivolo’s Chowder House, for example.

“I actually heard some tourists talking one day and they said: ‘Instead of going to (higher-end) Fandango, let’s grab some sandwiches at the farmers market,'” he said. “I’ve seen tourists open their trunks to eat out of their coolers.”

Arrest Made In Arson Of Tattoo Studio & Lattitudes

Nathan Abel Augustine, 35, is charged with purposely setting fire to Creative Visions tattoo parlor in New Monterey on July 13 and Lattitudes Restaurant in Pacific Grove on July 15. He is also charged with being a felon in possession of ammunition.

According to a press release, Monterey and Pacific Grove detectives linked Augustine to the fires after he was arrested in an unrelated vandalism case Oct. 20. After releasing him on a citation, police learned he was on probation for vandalism and weapons violations in Ventura County and was subject to search and seizure.

Two men who say millions of dollars’ worth of art were stolen from their rented Pebble Beach home have asked the FBI to investigate the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office for possible “corruption, collusion and cronyism.”

Nearly three weeks after a sheriff’s spokesman declared that Angelo Benjamin Amadio and Dr. Ralph Kennaugh had become suspects in their own case, an attorney for the men is asking federal authorities to look into why the department’s response to the theft was “to victimize the victim.”

If you need proof that newcomers usually don’t have the veteran residents’ welfare and concerns in their hearts, witness the recent past in Pacific Grove.

Hopefully, Pacific Grove is back on the right track. Residents do care where their leaders went to high school.
