Olinger was killed in Pacific Grove sixteen years ago.

Olinger Bench 2013

The jury found that Jacobo Ruelas and his younger brother, Angel Ruelas, who had earlier plead guilty to the crime, fatally stabbed Olinger, a 17-year-old Pacific Grove resident, during a carjacking and robbery on Sept. 18, 1997. Angel Ruelas, 33, pleaded guilty in April 2012 and was sentenced to life without parole, the same sentence faced by the elder brother. Jacobo Ruelas will sentenced Oct. 30.

Woman Causes Multiple Car Accidents On Lighthouse Avenue

Eventually, they determined that a Buick, driven by a 73 year old woman from Monterey, was northbound in the 400 block of Lighthouse when it sideswiped a Federal Express truck parked along the right curb. The Buick continued northbound on Lighthouse and ran the red light at McClellan, hitting a utility truck.

The Buick continued northbound on Lighthouse and ran into the rear of a Lexus SUV, which was pushed into a small bus that had six passengers. The Buick ended up flipping on its side and came to rest facing southbound.

Stuart Elder Accident Investigation Sent To DA

Who is Stuart Elder anyway?

Investigators with the California Highway Patrol delivered their report on Thursday to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office in connection with a collision that killed two Peninsula women.

Linda LaRone, 65, and Sharon Daly, 72, well-known former owners of a Pacific Grove pet store, died in the April 7 crash on Sloat Road in Pebble Beach.

Stuart Elder, 30, was arrested by CHP officers on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter while under the influence.

Selvia Gattas, 20, a passenger in Elder’s car, was hospitalized and released.

Friends of LaRone and Daly expressed frustration that months after the crash, Elder has yet to be charged by prosecutors in what Chief Assistant District Attorney Terry Spitz calls a “fairly complex” case.

Spitz said prosecutor Ed Hazel was briefed Thursday on the CHP’s report and “has questions for the investigator to follow up on.”

Fake Gun In P.G. High Student’s Car – That’s An Arresting

Someone has to protect them against the fedora & trench coat wearing kidnappers . .

A Pacific Grove High School student was arrested Wednesday after an imitation rifle was seen in his vehicle on campus, police said.

Corvette Stolen In P.G. Back In Hands Of Its Owner

Not much involvement by police. It was widespread Internet attention that made the car too hot and led to it getting recovered.

Monahan got word late Friday from a San Jose resident who noticed the car parked near his house for about a week. The man contacted his nephew, shared a picture of the deserted car, and his nephew told him to call Monahan.

“The nephew said it looked like one that was stolen out of Pacific Grove,” Monahan said. The nephew had seen the stolen Corvette on the Internet, where the theft gained wide publicity. His uncle’s call came at 8 p.m. Friday, and Monahan hitched his trailer to his truck and was on the road two hours later.

He picked up the Corvette at 2 a.m. Saturday, got the OK from San Jose police and brought it home that morning.

City Street Projects 2013-14

One of the options is replacing the original lamp posts in Candy Cane Lane with solar. LOL. When the NOAA put up solar lights all hell broke loose.

Noaa Lights Of Pain

Among the projects are an illuminated crosswalk on Forest Avenue at Pacific Grove Middle School, sidewalk repairs on “safe routes to school” and planning for 60 new street lights in the Candy Cane Lane neighborhood.

Homeless Living In Cars Not Welcome In P.G.

The city can’t collect transient occupancy tax on a van dweller. Send them to Monterey instead. In the words of MoeAmmar “It’s the greatest thing to ever happen”.

“It came up with little fanfare, but I think people who advocate for the homeless got wind of it,” Mayor Bill Kampe said Thursday. The mayor and Councilmen Robert Huitt and Ken Cuneo cast dissenting votes.

About 10 people testified against the vehicle-sleeping ban, which Police Chief Vicki Myers said would give officers more latitude in contacting people in need of services.

“They didn’t want us hassling people in cars who are down and out … but this is exactly what the chief argued — to let people know about all the programs and to put them in the right direction,” Councilman Daniel Miller said.

The move came as the city of Monterey has been wrestling with homeless issues, and is exploring creating overnight parking spots for people living in vehicles.

Mail Getting Stolen In Beach Tract

Mail piles up when no one checks the box every day. Sing of the times when so many homes are weekend occupied or short term rentals.

The warning came after postal authorities recovered mail that apparently was stolen from the 900 to 1200 blocks of Shell, Surf, Egan, Crest, Ripple and Balboa avenues between February and this month.

Postal officials returned the recovered mail and informed police this week, said police Cmdr. John P. Miller.

Police advised the public to not leave mail in an unsecured mail box for long periods of time and, if taking an extended trip to have the postal service temporarily suspend delivery.

Miller said it wasn’t clear what kinds of mail were stolen. “We don’t know if it was if it was bills or just junk mail,” he said.
