Parklet Replacement Done

Now how will the sidewalk dining establishments ruin it with carnival lights, patio heaters and wind blocks?

Among the improvements, wooden parklets were removed; the intersection was excavated and repaved; curbs, gutters, sidewalks, crosswalks, and curb ramps were reconstructed and the sidewalks were widened.

For safety, new metal picket fencing for outdoor seating was installed, trees were added, light poles and street signs were relocated, and pavement markings were updated.

When we are not allowed to feed peanuts to the critters here’s what they turn toSquirrel On A Fence

California ground squirrels have typically been considered herbivores or granivores, eating mostly plants and seeds. The new findings offer the first documentation of the species actively preying on other live vertebrates — underscoring its ability to respond to changes in the ecosystem.

Woman Found Tied To A Tree In Pebble Beach

No words.

The woman in her 40s said she was out walking at around 7:30 a.m. when she was being followed by a male.

“During that encounter, the male subject produced a handgun,” said deputy spokesperson Andy Rosas. “The male basically walked her over to a tree and proceeded to tie her up to the tree. And shortly thereafter, the male walked away.”

The man just left on foot. She said she was not injured, assaulted or robbed.

She is found a few hours later. She was taken to the hospital for a checkup.

The culprit was described as a Hispanic male adult in his 30s who was wearing a green hat and grey sweater. He had a tattoo on the right side of his neck with the first letter being the letter “Z.”

Griddle Goes Cold At Wharf 2 Restaurant

Another victim of the city’s greed?

joes griddle

An iconic Monterey Municipal Wharf 2 restaurant is shutting its doors suddenly and without warning.

Loulou’s Griddle in the Middle announced on its social media page that it would be shutting down effective immediately.

“It comes with great sadness & heartbreak to tell you all that Loulou’s will be closing, effective immediately. We can’t explain just how crushed we are. A lot of different things are at play, but to make a long & complicated story short & simple, lease negotiations were upon us & moving forward with a new lease just wasn’t going to be feasible for us,” a post on Loulou’s Instagram read.

Loulou’s said that while they do not know what is next, they plan on staying in the community in some capacity.

96 Year Old Lady Facing Eviction At Forest Hill Manor

So called lifetime contract not carried over to new owners.

Forest Hill Manor

Jacques has called Pacific Grove Senior Living her home for 22 years. On Aug. 16, the facility gave Jacques a three-day eviction notice. The notice states that Jacques must pay her outstanding balance of about $110,000 or vacate her unit.

The issue? It was Jacques’ understanding that she would be taken care of for life — regardless of whether she outlived her savings.

The eviction notice was issued by Pacifica Senior Living, the parent company for Pacific Grove Senior Living. When Pacifica acquired the facility from California-Nevada Methodist Homes in 2022, there was an expectation that existing contracts would be honored.

Though the previous owner’s contracts were grandfathered in, their policies were not.

President of Pacific Grove Senior Living’s Residents’ Association, Bob Sadler, says that contracts for “lifetime care” like the one Jacques signed were considered unconditional under the previous owners.

Seals Getting Massages

An invasion of sea lions at San Carlos beach in Monterey forced city leaders to close the beach Monday to all users, indefinitely.

“This is one of my favorite beaches to hang out on, on the lunch break, so I can’t go there because it’s partitioned off, but yeah, I love it,” said Teresa Jones, of Pacific Grove.

Barricades have been put up, preventing beachgoers from accessing the beach. The area is also a popular spot for scuba divers and diving lessons; the sea lions force them out as well.

“So there’s actually a really great, another beach just about a mile down the road called McAbee Beach, and so we’re just sending divers over there, and they’re perfectly happy to just go a little bit extra to get in the water still,” said Megan Patton, of Monterey Bay Scuba.

Shoreline docents who regularly monitor sea life say the sea lions started arriving last week, about 20 of them, but by Sunday night, there were hundreds of them.

Carson was 19 when he was enrolled in the Defense Language Institute. He for “reasons known to himself” and his codefendant, Jason Bland, planned to become serial killers, said Pacioni. The victim was a stranger to them both.

“They restrained her, then repeatedly stabbed, and slashed her. They taunted her with threats and promises of death. During the attack, the victim suffered multiple stabs to her torso and slash wounds to her neck,” detailed Pacioni.

The Wharf Is Not A Good Getaway Road

whos the uboat commander

Monterey police said a Fresno man was arrested after he tried to evade a DUI after driving off the Municipal Wharf 2 on Sunday morning.
Another officer saw the vehicle on the left turn pocket from Del Monte to Municipal Wharf 2. The officer turned on their lights to initiate a traffic stop near Municipal Wharf 2.

The vehicle pulled over and when the officer approached on foot the vehicle drove off. The truck went north toward the end of the wharf at a high speed, said police.

The officer assumed the occupants were hiding at the end of the wharf since there was nowhere to go. Other officers arrived to assist, and when they got to the end of the wharf they heard a cry for help coming from the ocean.

Officers located four people in the water and threw flotation devices at them. Police then realized the suspects had driven off the wharf.

All four were safely rescued. The passengers were treated for minor injuries and were released.

The driver, Martin Urroz, 21, was taken to the Natividad Medical Center for injuries he sustained.

Long Wait In Lighthouse Avenue Traffic

Thank the voters of Monterey for their 82% vote for Measure S. And some slightly stupid planners.

Measure S

On Tuesday, some drivers reported being stuck in Lighthouse traffic for more than an hour. The roadwork created Monterey’s version of L.A. rush hour traffic.

The traffic was so bad neighborhood streets were jammed with cars as drivers took alternate routes, streets were blocked off and parking spots off limits- businesses feeling the pinch.

“Definite business impact. I was here all day yesterday, and I didn’t see anybody until after seven o’clock, and that’s so different for us,” added Clewis (Employee of Ooh La La).

The work is all part of Measure S, a long-term taxpayer-funded project to repair Monterey’s streets, sidewalks and storm drains.
