But we will pay more. P.Gonomics

Pacific Grove chose to go with Greenwaste for the same reasons Marina and Carmel chose it, because they need to meet the new state standards that are upping the waste reduction percentage from 50 to 75 percent.

“Their whole expertise was designed to ensure that we, as well as the other cities on the peninsula, can achieve the 75 percent waste reduction targets,” said Frutchey.

Frutchey said while the bid from Greenwaste was more affordable than Waste Management, the price of garbage service will still be going up by about five to six percent

KSBW Moves Feast Of Lanterns To Florida

PACIFIC GROVE, Fla. —The annual Feast of Lanterns festival lit up Lover’s Point Park in Pacific Grove Saturday night.

People packed beach as colors filled the sky as 105-year-old Pacific Grove tradition continues.

The event celebrates a Chinese legend called the “Blue Willow,” a story about a princess’ forbidden love. The ceremony at Lover’s Point re-enacts the story, and for the grand finale the lovers flee together and turn into monarch butterflies, cuing the fireworks show out over the Monterey Bay.

Elder Abuse On Top Of Animal Abuse

CVS clerk that had a cat in the car trunk.

Ilagene “Jeanie” Quaglia is accused of stealing from a 82-year-old Pacific Grove man who she cared for and managed his rental properties.

It was a neighbor and close friend who noticed money missing and alerted police earlier this year.

“A reverse mortgage, lots and lots of checks that were written out to herself by her with George’s name forged on them, and a bunch of rental money never deposited,” Kristin Houde said.

After a six month investigation, prosecutors charged Quaglia with three felony counts of elder theft, forgery, and identity theft. The neighbor believes the 61-year-old woman may have stolen more than $100,000.

“It did make me wonder from day one, how does somebody who’s a clerk at CVS, drive a BMW SUV that’s probably worth 70 grand?” Houde said.

No one wondered back then how the cat lady could afford to feed 50 animals. The BMW SUV raised questions though.

After a six month investigation, prosecutors charged Quaglia with three felony counts of elder theft, forgery, and identity theft. The neighbor believes the 61-year-old woman may have stolen more than $100,000.

Quaglia is on probation after pleading guilty to animal cruelty charges two years ago. Humane officers found 48 dogs and cats living in filth inside her Monterey home. When they arrested her at work, she had a cat locked in the trunk of her car. The Monterey house was condemned.

Tree Tires Of Waiting For Permit, Falls On Its Own

City arborist said the tree was fine and had a lot of life left in it. Arborist just might be a moron.

The top of the tree took out his children’s zipline and the family’s bench swing. Penchan said he is happy it was him and the dog in the backyard and not one of his three children, who may not have recognized the sound.

Penchan said he and his realtor had already asked the city for a permit to remove the tree twice.

“It should have never gotten this far. This was an issue we brought up first in November,” he said.

Penchan and his wife bought the home on Walnut Street at the end of 2014. In November, their real estate agent, John Carminati, with Jones Group, expressed concerns about the tree and filed for a permit to remove the tree. Carminati said the city lost that application.

Bears Vacationing In P.G.

Careful, Yogi. Carmel shoots them out of trees.

The black bear was caught in Monterey Sunday morning by California Department of Fish and Wildlife officers. Officers used tranquilizer guns, and the bear was not injured.

Shortly after, wildlife officials released the male bear back into the wild, deep in Los Padres National Forest.

Don Kelly of the Dept. of Fish and Wildlife said the bear most likely wandered into residential areas looking for food.

Holmans Building Will Be Gutted

Nader’s Dream is back. This time the Holmans building becomes a bunch of multi million dollar condos and his big hotel takes up the rest of the block.

Durell Hotel

Developers are proposing two projects for the Holman Building property. The first project would turn the building into commercial space and condominiums. The second one would bring construction of Pacific Grove’s first hotel. To get it done, the developers need to split the lot and get multiple permits.

Developer Nader Agha is heading up the hotel project. The hotel, if all goes as planned, will be a 135-room Hilton Garden Inn. Agha wants to build it on the back two-thirds of the property.

100,000 Gallons Of Raw Sewage Dumped On Lovers Point

Scott Kathey, emergency response coordinator for the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, said cleaning sewage out of the ocean is impossible.

When asked what environmental impact may occur, Kathey said, “It’s hard to say. Obviously the plume is going to spread. Any kind of effects would be long-term.”

Marine animals could develop bacterial infections from coming into contact with the sewage, he said. Luckily, there were no sea otters or seals nearby at the time of the spill.

The recreational trail was closed to the public from the Monterey Bay Aquarium to Point Pinos. Lovers Point Beach was also closed, as well as all beaches one mile to the north and one mile to the south of it.

Lighthouse Avenue Dot Com Idea Comes True

Make the business that use the public walkway as added square footage pay for it as mentioned here six years ago.

“Up until this point people just went and did it, and they actually encroach upon our sidewalk,” said Mark Brodeur, with the city of Pacific Grove.

Broduer said the new rules require tables and chairs only take up 45 percent of the sidewalk and that 5 feet be available to meet Americans with Disabilities Act compliance rules. He said there are still a number of places that currently have outdoor seating that have not applied for a permit. He expects those owners to apply at a second scheduled meeting.

Pacific Grove is waiving the permit application fee for six months, allowing anyone who already has the seating to apply for the newly required permit and comply for free.

Ocean View Plaza On Cannery Row For Sale

One company buys the land, hammers out the details to get permits then sells it to someone else who may or may not build what was approved.

Cannery Row Ecology Symbol

The property — which includes both 484 Cannery Row, which is Oceanside; and 501 Cannery Row, which is on the other side of the street — is just over 3 acres of land. On May 4, 2015, Altman Brothers, a luxury real estate agency based in Beverly Hills, put a listing online. Brittany Clark, with Altman Brothers, said the $20 million buy is already generating $400,000 annually for a parking lot on the 501 Cannery Row side of the street.
