Gerald Leigh had proposed a larger four-story building
that included 14 residential units, two workforce housing units and 32 parking spaces, but withdrew the proposal after citizen complaints. He resubmitted plans for a smaller three-story building minus the affordable housing element and with only 10 market-rate residences and 20 parking spaces.

The gentleman tried to get the dog off his dog, was unsuccessful tried to pry the mouth of the dog off his dog and ended up biting him as well.” That’s when the man pulled out his knife, stabbing and killing the pitbull.

City Building Official John Kuehl who issued a notice and order to vacate and demolish the building located at 301 Grand Avenue because it was deemed “unfit for human occupancy.” Kuehl gave the tenants until the end of January to move out of the structure, which is listed on the city’s Historic Resources Inventory.

Specifically, the notice addressed to the building’s owner Manal Mansour noted that the building’s exterior surfaces have decayed to a point of allowing water to enter the building and that its structural members aren’t properly maintained and are in a deteriorated condition.

The two-story structure was a mixed use building that had primarily commercial and office uses on the ground floor and three apartments on the second floor, according to Mark Brodeur, the city’s community and economic development director. But Brodeur said the owner had future plans to build out the second floor because in its current capacity it wasn’t a full two-story building.

Gun Stolen In P.G. Found At Wharf

At Wharf 2, officers spotted Jonathan Marvel Garate with several other people near a vehicle and approached them. They reportedly found Garate with a handgun that had been reported stolen out of Pacific Grove in November.

Their investigation led them to a home in Seaside, where they conducted a probation search, PRVNT agents said. There they found a 17-year-old young man with an unregistered handgun.

Antle also said it was time for the business to focus its efforts on opportunities in its Spreckels-based division.

Like that one? Better headline than man rescued from rocks. And don’t try to get there in your all wheel drive Subaru, either.

The rescue took about 45 minutes at about 5 p.m., according to Pacific Grove Police. Sgt. Jeff Fenton was patrolling the beach front when he was flagged down about an injured person on the rocks off the shoreline in the 1400 block of Ocean View Boulevard. “I got there and did a quick assessment about where he was located on the rocks,” said Fenton. “Then I requested (the fire department) and suggested they bring the ladder truck from one of their special rescues that we’ve done.”

Upon their arrival, police officers assisted Monterey Fire and American Medical Response by helping to hoist the 54-year-old man in and up from the rocks using ropes and pulleys. The man, who is from New York, was then transported to Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.

Joseph Thomas ran away when police arrived around 2:45 a.m. Nov. 18, but officer Luis Buenrostro and Cpl. Dan Deis managed to chase him down after a short pursuit. They arrested Thomas for the attempted break-in, as well as evading police, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Lakind, and took him to Monterey County Jail.

Built in 1918 and serving as a downtown staple for more than 90 years, the building was purchased for $5.9 million by the real estate development company for the purpose of converting it into 21 high-end condominiums and four luxury penthouses and 18,000 square feet of retail space.

Current existing businesses Jeninni Kitchen + Wine Bar, Grove Nutrition Center and Monterey County Bank will remain on the ground floor with room for eight to 10 additional retail businesses.

Still hoping for the bowling lanes.

Fog Found To Contain Mercury

Previous UCSC research had found mercury — a dangerous neurotoxin — in the Monterey Bay’s surface water, he said.

“I was like, well, if it’s in the surface seawater and it can evaporate into the air, it probably should be in fog, because fog is just this cloud that sits right over the water, so it probably should soak it up. And I was like, oh, nobody’s ever measured that before,” Weiss-Penzias said.

And so was born a National Science Foundation-funded research project, now hitting its four-year mark, co-led by four scientists from Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, Cal State Monterey Bay and UCSC. The team spread out on land and by sea, measuring mercury levels in the fog, water, plants and animals.

What they found was 10 times more mercury in the West Coast’s fog than in rainwater. The team also compared mercury levels between local plants and animals and their counterparts from non-foggy areas. They found: six to 10 times higher mercury levels in the Santa Cruz Mountains’ pumas, two times higher levels in local deer and elevated levels in local lichens.
