Tear Down The Parklets
Some are empty more than they are used. Some have unsafe conditions.
Prompting those letters was an 86-page report by a P.G. Planning Commission subcommittee that recommended 14 rules for parklets. Those rules would have meant all existing parklets would have to be torn down; some could have and rebuilt much smaller, and at least five of the current 13 parklets would have been eliminated entirely.
Despite pleas from restaurant owners who said the new rules would hurt their businesses in a time of inflation and other challenges, the Planning Commission voted 4-1 on Dec. 8 to send the recommendations to the City Council.
Some of the commission’s recommendations went beyond what was required by existing codes, said John Kuehl, the city’s chief building official. While the planning commissioners were concerned about safety, Kuehl suggested that some people’s perception of what’s safe may not correlate with laws already in place.

The parade was planned for 6 p.m. Thursday in Downtown Pacific Grove. The city did not say when and if they would reschedule the parade.
“We hope to celebrate this beloved event with you all soon.,” said the Pacific Grove Chamber.
Jason Blad, P.G. Recreation Trail Attacker Granted Parole
Recreation trail can be a dangerous place. Now an attacker that repeatedly stabbed a young lady there is about to be freed. Not right.
The California Board of Parole Hearings, represented by two parole commissioners, granted Jason Blad parole after 21 years in California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. In June of 2002, Blad was sentenced to seven years to life for attempted murder.
This was Blad’s Seventh Parole Board Hearing. The Monterey County District Attorney’s office will request that Gov. Gavin Newsom reverse the panel’s decision.

The two-story, 17,500-square-foot structure at 30 Fisherman’s Wharf has been vacant since July 2021, when restaurant Scales Seafood & Steaks moved out after its owners failed to reach a lease agreement with Monterey. The city owns the building and has a filed a permit with the
coastal commission to make improvements to it.
Wachs On Wachs Off

“It’s kind of a shock. I knew Mayor Peake would be a tough candidate to go up against,” said Wachs, who added that he hopes there is a large enough number of younger voices coming up in the future to lead the city.
Wachs, 40, entered late in the race “for his kids,” and said previously that he wants to help build a better city for them and future generations. Wachs came to Pacific Grove in 2021 from Houston with his wife and two young children. For the past two decades, his professional career has varied from creating billboards for sports teams to serving as an art director for venture capital-backed media startups.

Councilmember members Chaps Poduri and Tina Rau are arguing in favor of approving Measure M. They believe Pacific Grove is missing out on a source of revenue when people from Pacific Grove drive to dispensaries across the Peninsula. They estimate that having a cannabis business within city limits could bring in $300,000 annually.
Tina Rau is NOT a councilmember and never should be. Taxing aquarium admissions was estimated to bring in more than twice that.

Fight The City, Get A Lein With No Notice
City Council did drop the fines.
But when they tried to sell the house, they were shocked to discover that the City of Pacific Grove — way back in August 2017 — had placed a lien on the property because of the unpaid fines. The fines, which they admit to not paying at the time, had accrued to $14,667.50 during the six years.
While PG city manager Ben Harvey in early October suggested they would be on the hook for the nearly $15,000, the couple recently addressed the city council twice, arguing the city never told them about the lien. “We were not properly noticed of the lien or the council resolution that approved of the filing of the lien,” Mark Hanes told the city council in hopes of getting the lien rescinded.

They sure get loud when triggered but silence is all we get from them when their hypocrisy shows.
As Pacific Grove residents this week continued to call for the resignation of the head of Pacific Grove’s diversity, equity and inclusion task force after she mocked Christians on social media, members of the panel and the county’s Democratic Party central committee — which is endorsing her candidacy for city council — refused to comment on the controversy.
Tina Rau, the chair of the DEI task force and one of six people vying for a seat on the Pacific Grove City Council in the Nov. 8 election, took to Twitter in August to ridicule Catholics and evangelical Christians, which led numerous residents, elected officials, the Diocese of Monterey and others to criticize the post
Ben Harvey Gets Physical With Citizen
The “lousy” City Manager was ignoring calls to fire Tina Rau.
Davis, 70, said when he asked Harvey why the DEI task force meetings were still only being held remotely and whether he would fire Rau or ask for her resignation for the social media post, Harvey told him the decision was not up to him. According to Davis, he responded by telling Harvey, “You are a lousy city manager and you ought to go back to L.A. where you got fired from your last city manager job,”
The comment, Davis said, triggered Harvey, who got in Davis’ face and accused him of harassing a secretary. Davis asked the secretary if he was harassing her and she shook her head no, according to Davis. “He went ballistic,” said Davis, adding that Harvey was screaming at him. “His nose was 2, maybe 3, inches from mine. Harvey had his finger in my face and I got angry. I can’t remember if I cursed, but I said, ‘Get your finger out of my face,’ and he started shaking his finger and he barely touched my nose.”
