An iconic Monterey Municipal Wharf 2 restaurant is shutting its doors suddenly and without warning.

Loulou’s Griddle in the Middle announced on its social media page that it would be shutting down effective immediately.

“It comes with great sadness & heartbreak to tell you all that Loulou’s will be closing, effective immediately. We can’t explain just how crushed we are. A lot of different things are at play, but to make a long & complicated story short & simple, lease negotiations were upon us & moving forward with a new lease just wasn’t going to be feasible for us,” a post on Loulou’s Instagram read.

Loulou’s said that while they do not know what is next, they plan on staying in the community in some capacity.

Councilwoman Debbie Beck Resigns

Sad to lose a great councilwoman.

Debbie Beck announced she would be stepping down from her seat on the council and resigning after a “challenging year.” Wednesday’s city council meeting began with remarks from Beck, who thanked the city and residents for their support.

“I consider the residents of Pacific Grove my family and that’s the reason I chose to run back in the day, but family always comes first,” Beck said.

Beck, who fought a battle against breast cancer and is mourning the loss of her daughter to cancer, said while she has prioritized Pacific Grove and her duties to the council, she wants to step back and spend more time with her loved ones.

“I did put the city and this position at the front of my agenda at all times, however this past year was very challenging, so it’s bittersweet,” she said.

School Creeper Riley Elvin Released On Probation

A man who trespassed onto two Pacific Grove school campuses in 2023 and threatened to kill the former principal of P.G. High was put on probation last week and freed from Monterey County Jail.
On Nov. 13, Monterey County Superior Court Judge Pamela Butler sentenced Riley Elvin, 29, to felony probation. The order means he must abide by a strict set of conditions, including abstaining from drugs and alcohol, seeking and maintaining employment, and staying 100 yards away from Pacific Grove High School.

“They had video surveillance of the incident,” Rosas said, and from that, investigators were able to identify the two people who had broken into the shop. The damage the duo caused totaled around $3,100, but they didn’t manage to steal anything. One of them, a 26-year-old woman from Pebble Beach, has been arrested and charged with conspiracy, burglary and felony vandalism, according to Rosas.

Pasadena Woman Arrested At Bide A Wee

A Southern California woman was arrested Nov. 3 on charges of beating a member of her family at a Pacific Grove inn, the PG. Police Department said. Pasadena resident Huasha Liu, 67, was arrested at 221 Asilomar Ave., the location of the Bide-a-Wee Inn & Cottages

It is unclear which relationship applied in Liu’s case. As of Thursday afternoon, the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office had not yet charged her with a crime.

The operators of Victorian Corner and Rudolfo’s are in favor of the new outdoor dining plan, while Wild Fish owners Kelvin and Liz Jacobs oppose it. The couple said they’re planning on hiring an attorney to “challenge the legitimacy” of the project and are asking the public to help pay their legal bills.

At about 2 p.m. Oct. 31, a 76-year P.G. man was walking in George Washington Park when he came across a German shepherd and, as people who like dogs often do, asked if the animal was friendly so he could pet it. But things didn’t go as planned. “The owners advised their dog was friendly, and the victim began to pet the dog when the dog lunged and bit the victim’s left calf,” Pacific Grove Police Acting Chief Brian Anderson told The Pine Cone Monday.

New P.G. Schools’ Sex Ed

After the baby killers were kicked out, we have this one that is more open with it’s curriculum.

School District trustees last week approved a new sex education course over worries that refusal by former provider Planned Parenthood to allow public inspection of its  curriculum put the district at odds with state law.
The five-member school board voted unanimously at its Nov. 7 meeting to approve a $4,090 contract for Carpinteria-based Positive Prevention Plus to provide sex ed curriculum to students.

Pacific Grove Unified administrators decided to drop the Planned Parenthood Mar Monte course after the group informed the district its content was “proprietary” and that
the district was not allowed to let the public, including some parents of students, see it.

At about 8:55 a.m. Friday, Pacific Grove Police officers responded to a report of a robbery that had just occurred near Asilomar Beach.

“The victim was taking photographs on the beach trail when one of the suspects grabbed his camera and ran off to a car,” “Monterey Police made a vehicle stop and had the suspects detained in the area of Drake Avenue and Wave Street,” Dippel explained.
According to a criminal complaint filed by the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office Tuesday, the suspects arrested on suspicion of second-degree robbery, a felony, are Juan Hernandez Ramirez Jr., 30, Morelia Villarios, 18, and Jose Guadalupe Reynoso Nunez, 23.
