School District trustees last week approved a new sex education course over worries that refusal by former provider Planned Parenthood to allow public inspection of its curriculum put the district at odds with state law.
The five-member school board voted unanimously at its Nov. 7 meeting to approve a $4,090 contract for Carpinteria-based Positive Prevention Plus to provide sex ed curriculum to students.Pacific Grove Unified administrators decided to drop the Planned Parenthood Mar Monte course after the group informed the district its content was “proprietary” and that
the district was not allowed to let the public, including some parents of students, see it.
