Lovers Point Grill Rent Dropped During Construction

Now where will visitors be able to taste our famous tap water served ‘proper’?

Approved unanimously were amendments to a contract to operate the Lovers Point Grill, $30,000 for asbestos removal at the Old Bathhouse building at Lovers Point, and $13,500 to replace the City Hall clock tower chimes.

And they took Bindel off the lease. From the city’s web site they say needs to be replaced..

SECTION 2. The Agreement (Agreement) between the City and Cavallaro Limited Partnerships and David R. Bindel to lease and operate the property known as the Grill at Lovers Point executed on December 5, 2002, shall be modified to remove David R. Bindel as a party to the agreement.

SECTION 3. Due to planned construction at Lovers Point Park, business shall not be conducted and the Agreement shall be modified so that no rent shall be due for the period of January 1, 2011 through a date of written notice to be issued by the City that business may recommence following construction.

Seals At Hopkins

The number of elephant seals on Hopkins beaches peaks during spring molting season and in the fall. The fall seals are mostly young males that are probably avoiding mature males at the larger breeding rookeries, Pearse said.

During mating season, male elephant seals, called bulls, engage in fierce fights for territory and access to a harem of females.

In November, Akeman observed a large bull at Hopkins chase, mount and bloody a female seal before she escaped into the water. The frustrated lover later tried to mount younger male elephant seals on the beach and chased some harbor seals away.

The bully bull seal needs a name, lets call him Tomm.

Why Is New Monterey Called New Monterey?

New Monterey

KION comes up with a history lesson, but no real explanation.

New Monterey was named by Little and real estate developers about 1886, who began to sell lots in the later 1880s. Little became City Engineer in 1892. The Milton Little (Walter’s father) family farm was located in the area, with the family home and “ranch house” on Lighthouse Ave.

Now, who knows where the taco bell tower columns on that gateway sign came from? They were recycled…

Chamber Of Commerce Story 1, Slow News Week

Forgive KSBW for the poor fact checking, there must not be enough gang stories in Salinas to report on.

The building is on Central Avenue well into the P.G. city limits. After reading about how much the restaurant tried to keep it’s current location, the perception is that the property owner is a friend of Moe and nothing could make them consider any other use of the property.

Plus $125,000 of the taxpayer’s money is going toward this turkey.

The Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce is making a move to the China Garden Restaurant on Lighthouse Avenue after 75 years on Central Avenue.

Moe Ammar, of the Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce, said a lot of research went into finding a new home where there was a lot of car and foot traffic.

Last week, the Pacific Grove City Council approved to have a portion of the money from the city’s hotel tax to pay for the tourist information center, which will cost about $125,000.

The chamber will continue to keep some of its administrative offices in its old building.

Moe Ammar Dont Buy American

Make sure businesses are ready for major events that come to Pacific Grove. Refer visitors to events, places and businesses in town. Emphasize environmentally friendly events.

“Now we know who is in charge of what. We’ve met each other. Now we’ve got to work together,” chamber president Moe Ammar said after the two-hour meeting, which had a 27-member panel and 40 people in the audience. The panel included people from the hospitality industry, arts community and city officials.

Ammar, who has led the chamber for 18 years, said he holds the gatherings when the economy slips. The last such event was 10 years ago.

He last held any marketing summit a decade ago and has not noticed the economy since then? The best idea I think is to find a new Chamber Of Commerce leader.

As people described their organization’s events, Frutchey said there were some festivities he wasn’t aware of and suggested a master calendar for Pacific Grove events.

Great, we have a come-here City Manager that does not know about the quirky civic events in P.G., or what resources to turn to and find out.

It is the economy. Need to emphasize value for the dollar, which admittedly P.G. has very little of.

Bar & Nighttime Parties Coming To Golf Clubhouse?

PG Golf Parking
When the grave yard Clubhouse was pushed on the taxpayers we were told there would not be hard liquor or evening operation. I’m shocked, shocked that the city would ever turn on the residents and do such a thing.

The city is proposing the use permit for the $4million golf clubhouse at 79 Asilomar Ave. be amended to allow it to operate 6a.m. to 9p.m. rather than the current dawn-to-dusk schedule, allow the club restaurant to serve liquor as well as beer and wine, provide amplified music and erect light fixtures in the parking lot and along walkways.

Former Councilwoman Susan Goldbeck told the council the proposals fly in the face of promises made to neighbors when the clubhouse project was approved in 2003.

Legal Sea Foods

A Boston-based restaurant chain is planning a dinner featuring seafood it says environmental groups have “brainwashed” consumers to avoid.

Legal Sea Foods owner Roger Berkowitz tells the Gloucester Daily Times that guides such as “Seafood Watch,” published by the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California, have “no scientific basis,” but intimidate buyers.
