The Parking Meters May Multiply

The idea is controversial in a town that prides itself on being “America’s Last Hometown.”

Those opposed to adding parking meters downtown, at Lovers Point and along parts of Central Avenue said it will take away from the city’s charm. “I don’t want it in the downtown area. It would lose all its ambiance,” store owner Dee Moore said.Others said they worry shoppers won’t want to pay for parking in front of downtown shops.

Parking Meters Sensor Loop

The so called ambiance was lost long ago, chopped up, sold, painted over and resold. It was replaced by by phony charm that requires sandwich board signs to direct you to the merchandise you just cannot live without. Bah! Anything worth spending money on should stand on it’s own.

For one, the meters may increase the the number of spaces available as cheap merchants quit parking their cars all day long in prime spacesVictorian Corner Ho
Though I think we would need 3000 meters to make $6,000,000. There’s reportedly 100 meters by the ATC that bring in $1,800 per year per meter.

Dilworth Says NO To Christmas Lights

See failed council member candidate David Dilworth at the podium on the meeting of December 6?

Dilworth Warning

Spouting propaganda about “light pollution” in large cities masking out the twinkling stars at night. Makes about as much sense in foggy P.G. as solar heat. You’d think he’d bring this up in the fall or spring when the skies are not fogged in or filled with storm clouds. But no, he tries to make you feel guilty for having Christmas lights up. Guilty for admiring Candy Cane Lane, as if it was killing of otters or causing monarchs to go sterile.

I used to think Dil was just another kook. Now I think he is just another America hater. I’m going to Walmart and buying a few hundred C7s on strings for the yard, eaves, trees and whatever else needs to be Christmasy.

Bistros A Go Go

Site of the former Shnarleys Pizza. It was overpriced anyway, preyed on tourists I guess.
Grove Bistro

There’s another ‘Bistro’. Must be the latest fad name for tiny restaurant, with a name that implies “Yes, we have alcohol”. People in PG are sometimes still afraid of the old blue laws.

Bistros, Trattorias, Taquerias, Pubs, Sports Bars. Whatever.

Scotch Bistro – er Bakery has scraped the “Scotch Bakery” lettering from the windows, readying the former landmark to disappear for good.

And you know the sun’s settin’ fast,
And just like they say, nothing good ever lasts.
Well, go on now and kiss it goodbye,
But hold on to your lover,
‘Cause your heart’s bound to die.
Go on now and say goodbye to our town, to our town.
Can’t you see the sun’s settin’ down on our town, on our town,
Goodnight.

Widen Holman Highway?

Several residents of Crest Road, a Pebble Beach street that runs parallel to Holman Highway, said noise from the highway is already disruptive. Building two more highway lanes will create more noise. Some residents said a sound wall should be part of the project.

David Dilworth, a Pacific Grove environmental activist, also said other alternatives need to be explored. “Pacific Grove is essentially an island,” Dilworth said. “You are only dealing with what one lane is doing.”

68 At Chomp

On one hand we have the Chamber of Commerce begging people to come to PG and shop, and on the other we have the gadfly “environmental activist” that will make you sit in traffic jams, breathing excess exhaust.

One: It’s only to the most busy part of the road – CHOMP.
Two: The Pebble Beach residents bought homes NEXT TO A STATE HIGHWAY. To expect tranquility there is just stupid.

New Monterey Corner Finally Gets Go Ahead To Build

Groundbreaking on construction of a mixed-use building at Reeside and Lighthouse avenues in Monterey, once the location of a gas station, has finally gotten under way, after years of discussion with city committees and nearby residents, and undergoing several changes to the project’s original design.

“We had been trying to get it through the city for about 2½ years,” said Sean Houlihan, one of three Carmel men building the project.

Lighthouse Ave Reeside

About time they get around to building, Lighthouse Avenue is becoming more and more ghetto every day. Look around at the drug paraphernalia shops, tattoo studios, kung fu pits, empty storefronts and such.
