The President of Pacific Grove Pony Baseball and Softball announced that recently, a registered sex offender umpired at least three games for them.

“Unfortunately, our umpire contractor, Peninsula Sports Incorporated (PSI), employed an umpire that was a registered sex offender listed on California’s Meghan’s Law website,” said Paul Black, President of Pacific Grove Pony Baseball and Softball, in an email to families.

Lighthouse Avenue Delays Continue

Street is getting a slurry coating, that cheap way to cover the patchwork of repairs. Bumps in the road remain and it lasts about 2 years.

The City of Monterey says people should expect delays on Lighthouse from May 6 to May 9 as major roadwork is scheduled to begin.

Work on the northbound lanes of Lighthouse toward Pacific Grove will start at 6 a.m. and go until 5 p.m.. Northbound lanes toward Downtown Monterey will begin at 9 a.m. and go through 5 p.m.

The city says this is for slurry seal work to be done, which is applied in order to protect the underlying pavement.

The Wharf Is Not A Good Getaway Road

whos the uboat commander

Monterey police said a Fresno man was arrested after he tried to evade a DUI after driving off the Municipal Wharf 2 on Sunday morning.
Another officer saw the vehicle on the left turn pocket from Del Monte to Municipal Wharf 2. The officer turned on their lights to initiate a traffic stop near Municipal Wharf 2.

The vehicle pulled over and when the officer approached on foot the vehicle drove off. The truck went north toward the end of the wharf at a high speed, said police.

The officer assumed the occupants were hiding at the end of the wharf since there was nowhere to go. Other officers arrived to assist, and when they got to the end of the wharf they heard a cry for help coming from the ocean.

Officers located four people in the water and threw flotation devices at them. Police then realized the suspects had driven off the wharf.

All four were safely rescued. The passengers were treated for minor injuries and were released.

The driver, Martin Urroz, 21, was taken to the Natividad Medical Center for injuries he sustained.

Jenny MacMurdo, 44, who took over the chamber in January 2022, decided to resign this week.

MacMurdo’s departure comes at an unfortunate time, considering the city’s biggest event of the year, the Good Old Days Street fair on May 4-5, is only two weeks away.
However, the chamber said that Metzner who has been the lead director for Good Old Days is well suited to fill in until a permanent president is selected.

Liz Jacobs, owner of Wild Fish on Lighthouse Avenue, leads the city-sanctioned  downtown Business Improvement District board, or BID, which holds marketing events to draw more people to P.G. But Jacobs, the chair of the board, has not remitted business license tax for the restaurant at 545 Lighthouse for two fiscal years — even though the group she heads pays for its programs with the same tax dollars.

OK, delinquent taxes, no business license. How are they on health department inspections or payroll deductions? Place is starting to resemble a grease fire of infractions.

Long Wait In Lighthouse Avenue Traffic

Thank the voters of Monterey for their 82% vote for Measure S. And some slightly stupid planners.

Measure S

On Tuesday, some drivers reported being stuck in Lighthouse traffic for more than an hour. The roadwork created Monterey’s version of L.A. rush hour traffic.

The traffic was so bad neighborhood streets were jammed with cars as drivers took alternate routes, streets were blocked off and parking spots off limits- businesses feeling the pinch.

“Definite business impact. I was here all day yesterday, and I didn’t see anybody until after seven o’clock, and that’s so different for us,” added Clewis (Employee of Ooh La La).

The work is all part of Measure S, a long-term taxpayer-funded project to repair Monterey’s streets, sidewalks and storm drains.

Into high rent storefronts and million-dollar condos

An eclectic building in the heart of New Monterey that once housed the Paper Wing Theatre (moved to Cannery Row) and the Cat’s Meow vintage clothing store (moved to Santa Cruz), is now under a major remodel to become a three-story mixed-use building with retail on the ground level and five condominium units on top, complete with a rooftop retreat for residents with views of Monterey Bay.
