Hosting companies, sheeshe.

Last time I survived a server migration by a hosting company it lasted over 3 months. That marked the end of doing business with them.

Seems that the current host is moving the servers out of tornado alley and managed to mess up a connection. All is well now, pardon me while I go make a backup.

You are on notice, Hosting Zoom.

Beware Of Thom Ache-Man’s Tree Posse

P.G. newcomer and former Hear-old reporter is out busting anyone who’s cut down a tree and not replaced it. He has absolutely no authority to do so. Should be removed from committee.

Acheman Book

P.G. Beautification and Natural Resources Committee member Thom Akeman told residents if they didn’t comply the city’s tree ordinance — which includes replanting two trees when one is removed- they faced penalties.

And Mayor Dan Cort said he heard from several people who thought Akeman specifically overstepped his role as a city volunteer.

“There were several letters and emails that I got from some of the people he visited and from their friends who felt it was something he shouldn’t do,” Cort said.

Though Cort said he understands the frustration and desire by some citizens to speed up city work, he said any sort of enforcement effort should be left to city employees.

Book About Cannery Row

Postcard Cannery Row Hoffman

Cannery Row Post Card – 1970s

Author A.L. Lundy reveals some history of the street now crowded with tourists.

Still, Real Life on Cannery Row has many nuggets of gold. One that made me want to head to Cannery Row with a headlamp suggested that secret passageways connected the Wing Chong Co. building to the adjacent La Ida’s so that opium users could elude police in the ’20s and ’30s. Another sidebar gives away a recipe for “Half-Way House Salsa,” which was a condiment that topped burgers Steinbeck used to enjoy at a bar that was formerly located at 598 Lighthouse.

Bryan Byrd, a Comcast spokesman, said the launch of its next generation DOCSIS 3.0 enables access of speeds up to 50 Mbps – about three times faster than its broadband service.

Besides Salinas, other affected areas in Monterey County include Carmel, Carmel Valley, Del Rey Oaks, Marina, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Sand City, Seaside and Spreckels.

The “Extreme 50” service runs close to $140 monthly. Residents may also subscribe to a less expensive wideband service called “Ultra,” offered at half the price and speed.
