Could be more than a few cougar sightings though.

Pro-Am organizers told Action News Sports Director Dennis Lehnen that Woods had verbally committed to play in the tournament prior to his Nov. 27 car crash and subsequent revelations of extra marital affairs.

Woods, however, is taking an indefinite break from professional golf and there has been no word on when he plans to return.

New Tsunami Map Shows Who Goes

Cannery Row, John Denver’s plaque, Michelle Knight’s bladder house and other mini mansions on Ocean View. Kiss ’em goodbye.

Catastrophic waves could flood as far inland as Window on the Bay Park in Monterey and almost to the intersection of Fremont and Canyon Del Rey boulevards in Seaside, according to new maps by the California Geological Survey, California Emergency Management Agency and University of Southern California.

The new maps replace an older set that shows even greater potential tsunami damage, with flooding almost to North Salinas. “It’s actually a rosier scenario,” Yenovkian says. “Once you have the extent of the tsunami threat analyzed, you can prepare for it.”

New Vacancies – Not Open For Business

Forest Avenue has two new empty properties –

The Business Center that moved to the closed Greens Camera location a year ago. Guess that a store that relies on other businesses just does not have enough customers in P.G. No need to fax a painting or express mail a used dress.

And the weird One Eyed Art gallery is vacant. No more creepy stares directed at City Hall.
No Eyed Art
That stupid sandwich board sign at the corner of Forest and Laurel needs to be changed again to match the number of galleries up the street.

In comparing Pacific Grove’s fees to the county and other cities, the grand jury asked each jurisdiction what it would charge to handle plan checks and building permits for a 1,400-square-foot home with construction costs of $350,000.

In Carmel, the fees would be $3,949.69, while Pacific Grove would charge $10,091.38. Monterey would charge $6,491.92, while the county would charge $5,016.51 for the same structure, the grand jury found. City officials did not return messages left by The Pine Cone Thursday.

When the city requested more information as to the nature of the business they claim that they were told the business would retail ” various health and beauty products, natural vitamins, aroma therapy products, and instruction books and DVDs.”

“Unfortunately, the information provided to the Planning Division was not complete,” said City Manager Fred Cohn. The city learned through media reports that MyCaregiver was operating as a Medical Marijuana Dispensary.

Monterey is also threatening the building’s owners with a daily fine.

The association will have up to 35 members older than the age of 18, maintain its own insurance and receive no paid compensation for training and services the members provide.

Those services, Frutchey said, may include preserving records, equipment and artifacts of the Pacific Grove Fire department, maintaining and operating antique fire engines in parades and other community events, providing disaster response services, participating in fund raising, and working with other service organizations on activities that benefit the community.

Weekend Home Rentals Approved

Senior city planner Sarah Hardgrave noted that short-term rentals are already occurring in the city despite a prohibition enacted by the council in 1997 against rentals of single-family residences for fewer than 30 days.

She said licensing and taxing them could bring the city an additional $200,000 a year in revenue. Those who fail to register rentals, respond to neighbors’ complaints or violate provisions of the ordinance would be subject to penalties.

Since code enforcement is little to none, is there a contact to rat on suspected party houses?

Daniel Maniscalco went to the Pacific Grove City Council meeting Wednesday night and presented his plans for a non-profit cooperative during public comments.

The issue was not on the agenda so city council members did not address it but Mayor Carmelita Garcia said it does violate the city’s zoning codes.
