Pet Hoarder Discovered On Fountain Ave

The animals will get first rate care, what about the people living in the house?

A small historic home in Pacific Grove was declared uninhabitable Wednesday after authorities found it crammed with dogs and cats in “shocking” conditions, the SPCA for Monterey County said.

The house was cluttered with piles of clothing, trash and garage, along with feces and urine, the SPCA said.

There were 18 dogs, including four small puppies, locked in three small back rooms. The stench of ammonia from urine was so strong that fire officials recommended that animal rescuers use protective gear.

Two cats were also taken from the home in the 400 block of Fountain Avenue.

Welcome To Pacific Grove 2014 Tourist Season. Please Wash Your Hands Before Leaving

What happened to the gull poop cleanup program, with all kinds of hoopla about pressure washing and making the downtown tidy?

Monterey Hear-Old, August 2, 2013:
The city recently got state approval for a dry-season “best management practices” plan for sidewalk and curb washing of bird droppings in certain downtown areas, said Hardgrave. This is to comply with local and state regulations to keep contaminants out of Monterey Bay. Those lengthy guidelines are available from the city.

Two women were almost victims of a phone scam on Thursday, according to the Pacific Grove Police Department.

Both women received calls from a man who identified himself as a law enforcement official and said they had warrants for their arrests for not appearing on a jury summons. He had their names, addresses and phone numbers.

The public is reminded to never provide personal information over the phone or Internet to an unverified person. If you receive notification of a matter involving the transfer or payment of funds, always verify the validity of the message by using contact information you know to be accurate, not phone numbers or email addresses provided by the party.

If in doubt, the public is asked to contact law enforcement before taking any action.

Cigarettes Can Be Hazardous To Your Freedom

Butts In Flower PotHow soon before the butts left on the street will be traced back to the careless fools that drop them?

The smoke break by the burglar came back to haunt a Pacific Grove man this week. He was convicted in Monterey County Superior Court of first-degree burglary and now faces a possible seven-year prison sentence.

“Smoking — it’s kind of bad for your health,” said Deputy District Attorney Sam Nong on Thursday.

Nong prosecuted Daniel Edward Jeske, 33, of Pacific Grove from the March 20, 2012, break-in.

He said police forwarded the cigarette butt to the state DNA database — which includes about 1 million samples collected from felons and persons arrested on a felony charge.

Something Went Wrong

4 people rob a person at their house and steal their car. Not sure of the circumstances.

Police arrested two suspects and were still searching for a third in connection with a an incident Friday that began with an armed robbery in Monterey and included a four-hour standoff in Salinas.

Police were summoned at 4 p.m. to an address in New Monterey, where a homeowner had been robbed at gunpoint. The suspects fled with the victim’s van, police said.

The stolen vehicle was spotted a short time later in Marina, where a female driver was arrested.

A second suspect was located and arrested outside a house on Lupine Drive, and police surrounded the residence, believing the third suspect was inside.

A four-hour standoff ended when SWAT teams from Monterey and Salinas rammed through the front door and tear-gassed the home. They did not find the suspect.

About time, eh? Refer to the 2009 article What If Digital Research Had Won IBM’s Love? and another from 2007: Tech Tour Of Pacific Grove.

Digital Research Plaque

Gary Kildall, the pioneer digital visionary whose development of the microcomputer operating system in 1974 led to the personal computer, was honored Friday in Pacific Grove, the town where he had lived and worked.

Kildall, who died in 1994, was called “Father of the interconnected universe” at the commemorative event, held at Pacific Grove City Hall

Digital Research CP/M

Good credit where credit is due, but one is left hanging to know what happend to Digital Research. Trip over to The Six Serendipities of Microsoft and read about how close DR came to being the DOS that shipped with every new IBM PC and becoming big as or bigger than Microsoft.

The IBM design team knew immediately which operating system it wanted …They wanted CP/M, a product of .. Digital Research, of Pacific Grove, California. But when IBM first approached Digital Research, the company’s founder Gary Kildall was out of the office for the day. In his absence, Kildall’s wife and business associates were reluctant to sign the stringent IBM nondisclosure agreement…

SiFi Network Experience

Yeah. Don’t fall for this.

The history of this vendor and communities
The SiFi Networks rep, Scott Bradshaw — who appears in the photo with Mayor Pro Tem Robert Huitt — has represented this solution / funding model under different company names over the past four years. We met him while it was i3 America. He and a representative from Pickstock Group met with our community last year. Although we were very interested and wanted to move forward, there was no follow up. Apparently, the municipality of Sandy, Oregon — which had already gone to contract with i3 America — wound up with a nonexistent network and then had to sue this new company to move forward without SiFi’s involvement. Good luck Pacific Grove.

Deadly Poisonous Sponges Found Off Coast

Spongebob Gary and Jellyfish

“Killer sponges sound like creatures from a B-grade horror movie. In fact, they thrive in the lightless depths of the deep sea,” the aquarium research center said in a statement.
The institute said scientists first discovered that some sponges are carnivorous 20 years ago. Since then, only seven carnivorous species have been found in all of the northeastern Pacific Ocean.

The sponge was living near colonies of clams and tubeworms that use bacteria to obtain nutrition from methane seeping out of the seafloor.

Tillie Gorts Owner Falls For The Old PG&E Scam

Doesn’t running an eating establishment (or any business) require intelligence? This scam has been all over the news and was reported in February

And he wants PG&E to take the blame! I totally freak out!

(Ranieri) Guimaraes said someone called saying they were with Pacific, Gas and Electric and told him his bill was overdue. If he didn’t pay up in 30 minutes, it was lights out.

In a panic, he paid $1,000 with a cash card. One very expensive mistake.

“I’d like to see PG&E take full responsibility for this,” he said.

PG&E said this type of scam happens all the time, usually with restaurant owners in their peak business hours using a cash card.
