Water Crew Digs Up Cable, P.G Service Out For 6 Hours

A main trunk line containing 96 individual fiber-optic lines was severed by a utility crew digging on Ronda Road near Spruance Road in Pebble Beach. That cut cable service at 11:02 a.m., said Andrew Johnson, regional spokesman for Comcast Corp.

Before digging, the usual practice is to alert other utilities with lines in the area, and the utilities use spray paint to mark the location of those lines, Niccum said. There wasn’t a mark indicating the 2-inch cable TV line was underground in this case, and some of the individual fiber-optic lines were cut by a backhoe, he said.

Dog Owners Blame Others For Everything

Mindy Barker? Sorry, gotta laugh at the pun.

Can a cause be not having your pet on a leash in an area that is not your private property? Sorry to sound cold, but would you let your dog run loose on Holman Highway too?

Owners pursue cause of dog’s death, mad about barely buried carcasses.

Mindy Barker believes what killed her dog was barely buried a few feet from a popular hiking trail used by many dog owners in the Del Monte Forest.

That day, Bode bounded into an area with fresh bulldozer tracks, soft ground, traces of black plastic bags poking through the dirt and the strong smell of decomposing flesh, she said. Before her husband could stop Bode, the dog picked up something and gulped it down. A few days later, Bode’s health started to decline.

A Salinas police dog today helped the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office track down a man suspected of trying to steal power tools and construction materials in Pebble Beach, the Salinas Police Department said.

A man at the site sped off in his vehicle with deputies chasing him at high speeds until the man crashed his vehicle and ran off on foot, hiding in an area with thick brush, police said.

Nerro immediately picked up the man’s scent, and found Evan Vaught, 22, crouching in some bushes, police said. Vaught surrendered after Nerro bit him, officers said.

A 59-year-old Pebble Beach woman was arrested tonight on suspicion of striking her 80-year-old husband, the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said.

About 9 p.m., the pair became involved in an altercation at their home at San Carlos and Broncho roads in Pebble Beach, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Both wife and husband received bruises to their arms, but deputies determined the woman was the primary aggressor and arrested her. They also requested that a criminal complaint of spousal abuse by the husband be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office.

Proud To Be A Union Man?

Employees at Pebble Beach Lodge voted overwhelmingly Thursday to approve a five-year labor contract that includes a minimum $4-an-hour raise.

Leonard O’Neill of UNITEHERE! Local 483, the union representing the employees, said 98 percent of the members who voted approved the agreement.

Annual hourly pay increases are $1 in the first year, 50 cents in each of the second and third years, and $1 in each of the last two years.

“In my 30 years with this union, I have never seen a contract as good as this one at the Lodge,” said O’Neill

Comes to .80 per hour per year after six years. $32 a week. After taxes and union dues, maybe $20 a week. And that’s the best the union could get in 30 years. Does not sound like that union is doing much for the workers.

Fire Starts In Pebble Beach – 20 Years After The Big One

A fire broke out at about 6 p.m. Sunday at the Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach. According to authorities, nearly an acre of vegetation burned near the 12th and 13th holes.

The sirens wailed, helicopters and airplanes flew low, something was happening. 20 years ago millions were lost in a poorly fought blaze in Pebble Beach, this one did not repeat it.

Pebble Beach Man Threatens Grandma Over Addicting Inhalant

Jim Ferris

An 18 year old living in really filthy conditions in Pebble Beach with his 85-year-old great-grand-mother was arrested April 4 on suspicion of extortion, elder abuse and being under the influence of toluene, according to Monterey County Sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Ragan. Addicted to the inhalant, Jim Ferris reportedly threatened his great-grandmother if she didn’t purchase more for him.

She has a few cats and a couple of dogs, and he held one of the dogs with a pair of scissors like he was going to stab the dog if she didn’t go out and get his aerosol can of choice, which is spray-on deodorant, Ragan said. So she left, went into Pacific Grove some where and called 911.

Way to go grandma.

The Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce will likewise host shuttle services to bring visitors into town and encourage them to linger. Last year, it transported more than 2,500.

Of the 1,110 guest rooms in Pacific Grove, all but 102 had been sold as of Friday afternoon, which is about the same as the past two years, Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce President Moe Ammar said.

Ammar said the impact of the AT&T goes beyond the event itself, as fans who enjoyed their time on the Peninsula later return to the area with family and friends.

Limiting snacks
We can understand the security reasons for limiting the size of bag people were allowed to bring to the AT&T golf tournament. However, we were turned away at the bus in Fort Ord for having snacks and water inside our bag that was smaller than the size limitation….

I guess last year was our last visit to the AT&T.
